The outlook of a home network will see multiple devices connected to the Internet and to each other. Streaming and online gaming has become the norm in many households. This means more and more is demanded from home wireless networks and Internet connections. After reviewing both consoles, I came to realize that both Sony and Microsoft created systems that could revolutionize the gaming industry. I enjoyed the aspect of how consoles have evolved over time. With the arrival of the PS4 and Xbox One, we are seeing two distinctive consoles establishing their own identity. Sony has created a powerful, yet appealing gaming system, where as Microsoft have created a centerpiece for your living room utilizing an all-in-one solution for your entertainment needs. Each system has many pros and cons, yet the biggest issue might just be Sony’s kryptonite.
From an artistic perspective, Sony almost created a masterpiece. However, Sony left out one critical component, 5GHz Wi-Fi Spectrum/802.11ac Wi-Fi. This is one of the biggest advantages Microsoft has over Sony. My biggest gripe with the PS3 was the constant network issues that plague my streaming capability as well as online gaming. To solve these issues, my PS3 stayed connected with an Ethernet cable. I kind of felt like I was back in the Stone Age! Moreover, several years later, I figured Sony would not make the same mistake twice, but they did.
After configuring my router to 5GHz output I notice I was able to average 49.14 MBps on the Xbox One. Yet, when I went to setup my wireless network on the PS4, Nada! The PS4 would not connect to my wireless network. These features both make for a faster, more reliable gaming and streaming experience. More importantly, both 5GHz Wi-Fi spectrum and 802.11ac Wi-Fi will become the standard in the future. How could Sony leave out an important element that would enhance their streaming capability as well as online gaming experiences!
After much hassle I decided to switch back to 2.4GHz, yet when I connect to 2.4GHz I am able to connect to both systems without any issues. The Xbox One connects at 46.38MBps and the PS4 connects at 16.9MBps. This is a huge disparity when trying to decide what console I will be playing my multiplatform games on. In reality some things have not changed, Microsoft has increased their online capability, whereas Sony is still playing catch-up. When it comes to deciding on the aspect of online gaming and streaming content, I might find myself using the Xbox One often.

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
I don't think the 5ghz will become the standard (especially the experience I had had with it). The standard would be both 2.4 and 5 (which has already happened to some degree).
5ghz is fine and has some advantages over 2.4 but I wouldn't say it is the kryptonite of the PS4 nor would I say Sony is still playing catch up. It is good Microsoft has dual band
I think calling it Kryptonite might be a massive exageration.
Anything over 10mbps is more than adequate for gaming, most peoples internet connection isnt even anywhere near 49mbps so any advantage in having that speedover the local network becomes void the moment it hits your internet connection.
As far as I know most devices don't support it as of now. Well, most mobile phones, tablets etc. Even most PCs (without a dongle).
Also comparing the connections speeds like that is iffy, there could be a lot more people on PSN at the time of your test for example, there are more conditions you have to consider.
Really though, if you're so bothered about online gaming that you would base your entire console choice on connection speed, you really should be connecting with ethernet.
Drama aside, you have a minor point, but you've blown it waaay out of proportion.
The ktyptonite of both companies is internet service providers. The days of unlimited wifi are coming to an end. Internet and cable companies are trying to lean to a capped internet service with overage charges and tiered plans. Look at time warners new tiered internet service. It starts out at 2gigs a month from 15 bucks and goes from their.
expect gaming online to get VERY expensive
