As many PS3 owners know, the PS3 has evolved quite a bit over its life span, in just 4 years we got in game XMB, trophies, speed improvements, UI improvements, PS store improvements, new applications, playstation home, and much more .But looking back at the year 2010, we didn’t receive anything notable, and as we enter 2011, this trend doesn’t seem to be changing. So, now I must ask, where are our updates Sony?
Looking back, the last update containing something significant was June 29th with the addition of Playstation Plus. While a major feature, it was the only one released in 2010. The rest of the updates did contain some background work, such as the April 22 update which allowed more RAM to PS3 applications, and the addition of 3D, which very few games support. While at first these may seem like major additions, they pale in comparison to what the community actually wants.
While I am not going to get into specifics, I can say that Sony has focused on adding too many multimedia features, and not enough features for the PS3’s primary purpose, games. There are still many ways Sony can improve the gaming experience on the PS3. You all know what we want, in fact many people have created lists, but Sony has not delivered.
But was 3.0 big enough to justify almost skipping a year of useful firmware updates? I would have to say no, actually 3.0 was a huge letdown to a lot of people. While the changes were welcomed, such as a new ticker, colored friends list, and redesigned “waves”, it’s not enough to justify what Sony hasn’t done.
The recent hacks can’t be helping, as this is going to force Sony to focus on security updates and spend more resources on tracking down the hackers and stopping them, rather than give its true community what they want.
I am a huge supporter for the PS3, heck you could even call me a fanboy, but this is truly pissing me off. The PS3 has evolved quite a bit, but the PS3 is far overdue for a new firmware update, and Sony has not delivered.
A major Overwatch overhaul is coming. Includes new characters, maps, events, a revamped UI, and the removal of the "2" from Overwatch 2's title.

Nintendo confirms Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has sold over one million copies across Switch and Switch 2 combined.

It's not much to go on, but the first screenshot for Evangelion: Cross Reflections, the upcoming VR game based on the anime, has arrived.
Last year we got new video editing capabilities, new photo management tools (two different ones), Hulu+, Netflix w/o disc, other video services w/o disc, PS Store update (voting), and PS+ (which included auto-demo download and auto-software updates).
There was a lot there, more than what MS did in the year, but people don't care about that.
Honestly I just want a better-functioning in-game XMB, the thing in certain games takes a ridiculous amount of time to load up and slows down the game at times too. I don't see why it still loads up the Video, and Photo, and PS Store/ Web browser, and System settings/columns when every single one of them makes you return to the home menu to use what it has. Even with the Music column only a very small selection of games allow you to use it in-game, and most of them not even straight from the XMB (i.e. going into game settings and choosing what tracks to play from "custom tracks" or something similar).
I agree, we are definitely overdue for an update that adds a new feature or two.
I hope they're ready to release one soon.
i was just thinking about this not to long ago. i was wondering when will sony announce a new firmware. i need something new on ps3... i feel like it feels a little outdated.
