OBSERVATION: A small way Sony can get an advantage...over NINTENDO!

I've been thinking a bit about the PS3 vs. 360 battle and how ugly it has been lately. Been thinking about what Sony should do to try to finally get an advantage (I think Home will give them something MS doesn't have...if it ever comes out).

However, maybe there is another way that Sony can get past Microsoft this gen: Go after a few things that THE leading game console maker this time, Nintendo, doesn't have.

No matter what you may think of the Wii in terms of personal preference of game genre, no one can deny that Nintendo has dominated sales chart after sales chart, making them go "PS-Who?" and "36-WHAT?".

So, here's where I'm going with this: Give the PS3 something that the Wii does NOT have right now (besides games that appeal to more hardcore gamer demographics) that EVERYONE will be interested in.

Although my suggestion won't be more than a dent, it IS something that would help (it wouldn't hurt): Being able to play your PSP games on the PS3 and control your PSP contents through the PS3 system via the USB cable links. I'm not sure if the latter is already in there, but the former, as far as I know, is not (please inform me how to access it if it is), and it could be a bit interesting.

If no one remembers, the Nintendo Gamecube had a neat peripheral named the Game Boy Player. If you hooked this little thing up onto the bottom of the 'Cube, you were able to play Game Boy Games (Advance and regular GB games) through the Gamecube system. You could use either the GB Advance system you had or the Gamecube controller to control the game, which played the game on the TV screen (think of the Super Game Boy they had on the Super NES back in the day). Although this wasn't a very big thought, it expanded the library of the Gamecube by a lot since you didn't have to OWN a GBA to PLAY GBA games, and even though the game would be a BIT distorted (the sound wasn't as bad as it could've been) it all came together and you could've overlooked that in a second. It was my main GBA player until I bought a DS.

Now, of course, you would have to have a PSP to do this "play PSP games on your PS3 system" thing (unless Sony would want to bring out a UMD player for the PS3 that could run PSP games in the same manner as they would on the PSP which would cost less than a PSP), but think about this for a second. Not exactly playing UMD movies on the PS3 (that wouldn't be smart), but being able to play a game such as Crisis Core, Lumines, FF Tactics, Megaman Powered Up, and GTA Liberty City Stories in the comfort of your living room, no need to worry about battery life (your PSP might be plugged in, as well), and you could even put PSP game saves onto the PS3 hard drive if you wanted (and downloaded game stuff like MMPU's stages, which you could also save onto the PS3 HD). And it could also take full advantage of the internet capabilites of the PS3 wireless internet in so many ways. And you could even use the PS3 Dualshock 3 controller to control the games, which means you would have an easier time using the analog controls on a game like GTA: LCS.

The picture would be kind of different, and you may not get the full quality of graphics and sound as you would if you played the games on the PSP outright (since the smaller-to-bigger screen transferring might make the game lose some of its audio/visual flare, as the GBA Player made the GBA games lose a little in that regard. Not much you can do about it).

However, doing this could in fact give a small thing for the PSP/PS3 connectivity that the Wii/DS connectivity (which is VERY shoddy at best right now) doesn't have (and Nintendo, if you're listening, this is something you could do with DS games, as well). Doing this will not only make some current PSP owners very happy, but give PSP owners a new reason to go out and buy a PS3, and vice versa. Some gamers WOULD buy a PSP and/or the games, but might not because of all the small hassles that go into a portable system. The GBA games got more attention from me because Nintendo did that, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Sony, get to cracking, if you haven't already, and come out with this. Just a firmware update is all you need (which is even better, since you don't even need to make a new hardware product to do anything like this).

Again, if this feature is already included, let me know what to do in order to get to it. I've used the connectivity thing before, but didn't see anything too much worthwhile.

That's the only reason I would get a PSP, because it interacts with my PS3.

Hercules6493d ago

it is pretty close with remote play...because we can pop in a ps1 disc in the ps3 and play it on the psp..while the ps3 is on the east coast, and the psp on the west coast

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit44d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9244d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
