From Kyle Gaddo
Chainsawesome Games' Knight Squad is a blisteringly fast and hilariously furious eight-player mayhem festival for players of all ages. With simple controls and easy-to-understand game modes coupled with kooky power-ups that are sure to delight all, this arena-style romp is sure to be a hit with groups.
Touted as “top-down Bomberman meets Gauntlet,” Knight Squad comes at you with eight colorful knights that just want to score the most points. Each equipped with their own little personalities upon selection and names like “Smash,” “Storm,” and “Solo,” you'll take each of these little helmeted dudes into the ring to slice, dice, and stab your way through your opponents (read: your friends) to score the most points.
Classic modes are given ye olde medieval twist. Capture the Grail has you retrieving the holiest of all legendary items and bringing it to your personal base for points, while the 4v4 team-based Capture the Flag has you stealing the enemy team's flag while protecting your own. All this while using your foes as sheaths for your weapons.
The fun doesn't stop there, however, as more “out there” game modes are introduced. Soccer, for example, is another 4v4 style game that has you rolling an enormous boulder into the opposing team's goal, but killing the other d00dz at the same time. You'll notice that having to turn your enemies into corpses will be a common theme in all the game modes, actually.

In total there are nine multiplayer game modes to enjoy, all fun in their own rights and a hoot when you mix them up. Heck, there's even a mode called “Juggernaut” that sees one person transform into a near-unstoppable force packing a shield and a minigun. That's right—a minigun. Certainly not to be trifled with one-on-one, but when ganged up on by seven other players, it can go down easily enough.
Local multiplayer is the true star of Knight Squad. Though the online multiplayer isn't live yet (and will undoubtedly be a blast), there's nothing better than getting some friends over, cracking open some drinks, and unleashing absolute devastation on one another. Making quiet alliances only to immediately betray them, ganging up on the leader, or just switching up the teams, there's quite a lot of replay value in Knight Squad across its game modes. Thankfully, if you don't have seven local friends, you can fill in empty slots with bots. Just make sure to have your friends bring their own PC-compatible gamepads, because you'll need eight of them to take advantage of this couch-friendly title (and a USB hub doesn't hurt either).
Multiplayer isn't all there is in Knight Squad, as there are several challenges for solo players to partake in! From using a long sword to take down several vicious trolls, firing powerful lasers at deadly dragons spewing fire in your direction, or stopping wave after wave of devious black knights, trying your hand at reaching the top of the leaderboards is definitely something players can strive towards. Note that exactly zero of these challenges are easy and yours truly got demolished in nearly all of them.
There isn't much to say in the way of Knight Squad that isn't better shown through example. All the rules here are simple and Knight Squad itself lies in that easy-to-learn-difficult-to-mas ter territory. A single button press has you attacking while all movement is done with the joystick and, well, that's it. Nice and straightforward. All challenges lie in thrusting your sword into your opponent as the battlefield unfolds into a battle of wits. Or whomever has the best power-up at the time. Let's just say that you likely won't come out on top if your sword goes up against a crossbow.

Even though Knight Squad is still in Early Access, there's loads of fun to be had here. No sign of Chainsawesome Games stopping their additions to it either, so it's certainly nice to know that Knight Squad will not only remain fun and competent to its very core, but we will see it flourish into something far greater than it already is. Certainly a lark, whether with friends or alone. Happy slaying!
Day 11 | Chainsawesome Games

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
you got me at “top-down Bomberman meets Gauntlet” , awesome stuff from 3 people , hope this game comes out soon
Buds and Booze!? Count me in.
Not sure about it, I'll wait for gameplay footage
" Making quiet alliances only to immediately betray them, ganging up on the leader, or just switching up the teams..." More like Bomberman meets Gauntlet meets Risk.
