The third title in my triad of indie games comes from the folks at Runic Games. Known for the first Torchlight game, I was introduced to Torchlight II and I admit that this game had me drawn in as soon as I saw that you can have a panda as a pet. Well, the gameplay, loot system, and role-playing also did play a heavy part in why I enjoy this game. Growing a reputation as a new hero with his or her own tale to tell in this amazing world is just one of the reasons why this game should be in your Steam library.
Torchlight II takes place after the events of the first Torchlight. The Alchemist (who was a playable character in Torchlight) has grown obsessed by the Ember Blight that he is afflicted by and steals the Heart of Ordrak (the enemy from Torchlight). Taking the heart for himself, the Alchemist assaults his former allies and the town of Torchlight. You have to help track down the Alchemist and assist those in need in order to stop whatever it is that he is planning.
Gameplay features dungeons to explore, loot to find, and enemies to fight for experience. The action takes place in a somewhat top down perspective where you can survey the field around you. Everything is primarily controlled with your mouse (movement and combat) with available prompts to be assigned on your keyboard. There are special enemies that are able to fought that when defeated give you fame. As your fame increases, you become more recognized as a hero and get more skill points. Skill points can be spent on three different trees of abilities and powers per the class you choose to be.

The four classes are Engineer, Outlander, Berserker, and Embermage. The Engineer is a melee fighter who uses ember-powered technology to use in battle. The Outlander uses ranged weapons and some magic. The Berserker (as its name implies) is a quick attack melee fighter with animal-like powers. The Embermage is the spellcaster with many elemental attacks. Along with your character is a pet. Pets were featured in the first Torchlight, but were few in number. This time around you have your choice of thirteen pets (including a panda) to assist you with holding loot and fighting enemies.
Torchlight II looks amazing as well. The environments are beautiful and well crafted. There is a night and day cycle, weather changes, and destructible objects. Sound quality is great, too. While there isn't much voice acting, it still gets the job done. Hearing enemies and going through combat really gives off that fantasy vibe.

Fear not, however, because you may not venture alone in Torchlight II. There is a multiplayer mode! This is something that gamers felt was missing from the first game. You will need an account with Runic Games to play, though. It is able to support both online and LAN connections.
I highly recommend picking up Torchlight II. This title really got me itching to play more role-playing action games. I look forward to playing through it with the other classes and pets that are available. Did I mention about the panda yet? Well, either way, check this game out on Steam right now. I assure you that if you love RPG action games, then you will enjoy Torchlight II.
Day 20 | Runic Games

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
