How the term troll has gotten out of hand

I am sure everyone knows what the term troll means. According to Wikipedia “In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response” (this definition is based on the definition from the website: http://www.pcmag.com/encycl... But how easy is it to step from normal user and into the “trolling” label.
I have notice over the last couple of months that It is hard to comment on a story which involves certain games like Halo, Gears, Killzone and many others without being called a troll. There are people who are blatantly trolls. These are the people who say Halo Reach looks like Halo 2/ Killzone 3 looks awful and looks last gen. People who say things along those lines are obviously trolling but a lot of the time I notice people say an opinion that has some merit. Before I go into this I am not going to lie I have lost a bubble for trolling once and another for saying a spoiler (both I think unjustified but never mind I can live). The trolling one was for saying I didn’t trust the screen produced by Epic Games for their Gears of War 3. I didn’t say they looked bad but I did say and I quote “Is it just me or do these screens look pre rendered....screens are just too unreliable”. There is a reason for this because screenshots that have artistic views to them (no matter who they are from) are usually done up a little. I personally do not trust screen from any game and I prefer seeing gameplay.
Where is the line between opinion and Trolling. In my example I mentioned that it’s hard to judge if the screens we get shown are not edited. This raises an issue with the term trolling. From what I have noticed people cannot express an opinion on sensitive issues like Halo and Killzone without being called a troll. I never said Killzone (or any other PS3 game) looked better in my example because that would be trolling nor did I say Gears looks bad and I even made my comment generic.
I just think that people are throwing the term Troll around too much. In every news post I am now always careful what to say that doesn’t upset the die-hard fans because I particularly do not want to be accused as trolling. There is no common sense anymore. It just seems that people cannot express an opinion that has value anymore with the term troll being used. I have seen it everywhere not just in Gears article
I think everyone needs to calm down about the term Troll. In the gears example a simple disagree would of been a better option (I had 3 agrees and 2 disagrees). Everyone needs to relax and use the term troll less often it seems that everyone is becoming a troll

Like you, I prefer at least a video if not hands-on gameplay to screens any day. Screens can easily be altered/modified so that is a legitimate reason to not trust what someone is displaying from a certain game. People need to be respectful of others opinions and not so focused on pointing the finger all the time. I purposefully stopped reading articles and visiting sites where I knew very biased people would be. I definitely see how you're getting tired of people accusing you of being a troll, but I'm sure there are a few measure you could perform to make yourself seem less so. Of course, you can't just make everyone realize you're not a troll even if what you're saying isn't rude or too blunt but honest. I guess we'll all just have to double check ourselves, be careful what we say and how we say it, and not be so ready to point the finger at others. Ignore the fanboys people.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit67d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
