Why EA won't post Xbox footage of BF3

It's pretty evident that so far we have seen not an inch of xbox footage of bf3, but is it really because it looks bad or not finished/optimized? I really don't think so.

For starters, I think the reason no one has seen a trailer or even a piece of gameplay on xbox is because of Activision and Microsoft. Don't believe me? Well, look at this: xbox promotes call of duty, every map pack or DLC content released for cod is first released on XBL. Activation has exclusive partnership with Microsoft XBL basically promotes COD media. For example: we have seen COD run on xbox, but have we seen it run on PC or PS3? No. Cod is a console centered shooter, but why do you think we haven't seen it on other platforms as well?

I see people post comments like, "the console version must be hideous", or "sub par", but I believe it's not. It definitely won't be PC standard, but I can very well guess that the game will be one of the most technically amazing games out there. It all has to do will console exclusivity, hence why bf3 is prominently shown on ps3 and not xbox360. If you need another example, look at the cod press conference at the Call of Duty XP event. It had Microsoft and Xbox360 written all over it.

Want proof?: http://www.cinemablend.com/...

Or: "-$1 million dollar Call of Duty tournament by Activision and the event's lead sponsor Microsoft Xbox 360."

Why have a competitor to the game you sponsor posted up in headlines? Also, PS3 is not sponsoring BF3. People may think that but DICE and EA decided to use the "Buy BF3 new and get 1943 exclusively on PS3 for free" deal, it was to at least get some PS3 owners on their side because they basically had absolutely no influence on the Xbox side of things.

So please guys, don't nitpick and speculate on things that are obvious if you look for the signs, for all my nitpickers out there.

There's a console version for xbox, but why no PS3 version?

xX-StolenSoul-Xx5366d ago (Edited 5366d ago )

I take DICE's Word and say the two console versions will be very similar.

It's not a big deal really, since when have any multiplat game had any significant differnce? Never all multiplat games look very similar and this one will be no different.

Brownghost5365d ago

at least someone agrees and is not bashing the other

CommonSense5365d ago (Edited 5365d ago )

I think the reason they are showing ps3 footage and not 360 footage is that they know they have nothing to prove with 360 owners. multiplat games usually sell better on 360 than ps3 (especially FPS) so they are trying to create a buzz for sony owners who probably weren't really looking for another COD-type game since they already buy COD.

the market for fps is better on 360, and DICE/EA want to sell on ps3 as well.

this opinion piece is entirely speculative just like my comment, so we don't really know who is right, but i think it's just as logical to assume that EA wants to let ps3 owners know there's more quality FPS than just COD (which btw, isn't really of any quality...but that's a separate opinion).

vyke35364d ago

@CommonSense No dude, its because Sony made a deal with EA. Just like when MS makes a deal with Activision. Why do you think PS3 owners are getting 1943 for free with BF3?

Gray-Fox-Type05363d ago

its just the insecure ps3 fanboys i guess, trying to feel good by saying crap that has not even been proven it.

ctrlrz5365d ago

I think that when people compare performance between the two consoles they forget that it's never an "apples to apples" comparison. This isn't to say one is better than the other, but they definitely handle certain aspects the same titles differently and are thus designed a little differently. Looking for BF3 to run exactly like the other consoles, regardless of perspective, only fuels some contrived debate.

You bring up a good moderate point, but also bear in mind that people leaving the kinds of comments you're seeking to combat are usually left by people that take the spoon with their spoon-fed "news" and really have no motive to investigate anything on their own. The gaming culture is flooded with those types of individuals and we're all the worse for it.

GSpartan7775365d ago (Edited 5365d ago )

It's because of their partnership. Microsoft pays Activision to promote Call of Duty on the Xbox 360 and they also get exclusivity for a few months on DLC as well. It's beneficial for both of them since there are more 360s sold World Wide (still I think, I'm not sure). Microsoft is also partnering with them for XP and they've done so for the official Gamestop tournaments the last two years. Then there is the Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 3 edition.

The sheer fact that we've not seen footage on the 360 shows that Microsoft is most likely not interested in a deal with EA and spending much money on it. They can certainly do both, but it would cost them an insane amount of money with what they are already spending on Call of Duty and if I had to choose between one, I think it's a no brainier to go with COD to further promote your brand.

Also don't quote me on this, but I think EA has a partnership with Sony. At least they had it for Medal of Honor. Not sure if they cooperated for Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3.

Caleb_1415365d ago

Well we already know that people buying the PS3 version will get a free copy of Battlefield 1943 to download whereas 360 owners of the game will have no such option so... yeah

GSpartan7775365d ago (Edited 5365d ago )

Ok. Then that ultimately explains everything then. Sony chooses to go with Call of Duty's rival to promote their brand, which is why we've only seen footage on the PS3.

RegorL5365d ago (Edited 5365d ago )

And by the rules written by Microsoft
- Microsoft will not let Battlefield 3 launch on Xbox 360

"... should the content and features available on the Xbox 360 not be in parity with versions on competing platforms, then Microsoft reserves the right to not allow that content to be published for Xbox 360 ..."

Pretty sure you need Microsofts stamp of approval to run on non developer Xboxes at gameshows.

Microsoft think it is OK that they do exclusives with Activision, like launching DLC earlier. But not the other way around...

Speculating: Suppose there is a real conflict.

Not likely? Read this
"Here’s the thing... It's now progressed to not just be these smaller indie pubs that are obviously very easy to kick around. It’s moved up the food chain. It’s gone to B and A level publishers"

Will Xbox owners rage over Battlefield 3 not coming to Xbox enough to change Microsoft policy or would they settle with COD? That is the million dollar question...

YodaCracker5365d ago (Edited 5365d ago )

@RegorL

It clearly reads: "Microsoft RESERVES THE RIGHT TO not allow that content to be published".

It does not read: "Microsoft WILL NOT ALLOW that content to be published".

Do you honestly believe Battlefield 3 will not release on the Xbox 360?

RegorL5364d ago

@YodaCracker
What if it is not only BF 1943 but also some other differences? EA wanting to release best possible on all platforms? (Some differences pro PS3 some pro Xbox 360, we know they will release for PC using all its powers)

“Our goal is to create a game that works equally on all platforms. The engine is designed to run smooth on the PS3 as well as the PC. So I think that the consumer will not see any big differences between the versions.” – Battlefield 3s Executive producer, Patrick Bach (from theparanoidgamer.com)

Will Microsoft allow that? Or will both versions have to be reduced to equality. What if EA/DICE won't accept that?

I belive EA/DICE thinks they have very strong cards on their hands (several not shown yet).

If there is a conflict you never know how it ends...

Would you have expected BF3 not coming to Steam?

vyke35364d ago (Edited 5364d ago )

@RegorL tell that to Moh, Batman AA, AC: Brotherhood, MK9, Dead Space: Extraction, and Portal 2

They all had exclusive content on the PS3, yet all of these games were released for the 360, as far as I know.

RegorL5364d ago

@vyke3 Thanks for the list of PS3 exclusives - some of those were substantial additions, even if Battlefield 1943 is nice it should not be an exclusive that Microsoft should have a problem with - IMHO.

But I am rather surprised that BF3 was not shown on Xbox 360 at PAX - any other upcoming US game shows before its release date?

ziggurcat5363d ago

@ vyke3:

the content on the base game is the same of all of those games you listed, that is why those titles are also on the 360. microsoft is fine with extra exclusive content for other platforms as long as it's DLC.

the fact of the matter is: microsoft will not publish anything on the 360 if it has been released on PS3 first and if the PS3 version has more content included in the base game than the 360 version.

say, for example, limbo had been scheduled to be released at the same time for both 360 and PS3 - since the PS3 version of limbo has an extra level (which is not dlc, but part of the base game itself), limbo would have never been on 360.

also, if a title comes out on PS3 first, microsoft will not have it on 360 at all. you will never see any of that extra PS3 content in the games you listed come out on the 360. that's a fact.

If Ea has a partnership with $ony why is madden 12's graphics terrible, compared to 360, I know it's not the same studio, but if you google maddens terrible graphics on PS3, their are alot of pissed off PS3 owners. I think their not showing it, because the PS3 fanboys will be pissed by how nice the 360 version is gonna look.

bub165365d ago

no offence but this is just your opinion, you have pointed out no hard facts with reliable sources

Hufandpuf5365d ago

Your right, but there are glaring signs of partnership. timed exclusive DLC for Xbox, promotion for COD all over XBL, and at the COD XP event, Microsoft provided ALL of the gaming material. You'd think COD was a Xbox exclusive title. look how they treated the other versions of the game on different platforms. the PS3 and PC version were badly made ports.

MrBeatdown5365d ago

There are glaring signs of a partnership between Activision and Microsoft, but I find it very hard to believe that that deal entails prohibiting EA and DICE from showing footage of the 360 version of Battlefield.

First of all, it's bad for Microsoft's business to let the PS3 and PC versions get all the attention, and it's also piss poor for relations between Microsoft and EA. I just don't see MS agreeing to a deal with Activision that hurts their relationship with EA. If you were EA and DICE, how would you feel if Microsoft told you that you couldn't market a version of your game, purely for the benefit of your competitor? If I was running EA, I know that would not sit well with me at all.

Secondly, is Microsoft even able to mandate that EA shows no footage of the 360 version? I find it highly doubtful that they would have legal grounds to block EA from showing 360 footage.

DICE is a very capable developer, so I would be surprised to find out disappointing graphics are the reason for the lack of 360 footage, but I think your explanation isn't realistic at all.

ziggurcat5363d ago

@ MrBeatdown

there are glaring signs between EA and sony as well - BF3 is obviously a recent example, but if you look at EA's previous 2 E3 events, most (if not all) of the games demoed were the PS3 versions and a significant portion of exclusive content has been for the PS3.

does that mean MS is preventing EA from making (or showing) the 360 version? not. at. all.

i think it's more of a case of either the PC or PS3 being the lead development platform for BF3.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing12d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9212d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit12d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing12d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9212d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
