The most overrated game...

Lately, ever since I changed my avatar, I been getting neg'ed out alot. It seems many people dislike this franchise as a whole. GTA3 had set a standard as how a open-world game should look like. Then comes Vice City with its 80's and Scarface look. Then comes San Andreas with its 90s and NWA style. Then the game that everyone hates: Grand Theft Auto IV. I really don't understand why people hate this game. I said it over and over again. It doesn't have a jetpack, it doesn't have an airplane, it doesn't have a chainsaw. Rockstar took a serious approach with this. How is this game really overrated? Did you expect something new? Something revolutionary? Did the reviewers like IGN, Edge, Gameinformer, Gamespot, 1UP lie to you about anything? Many say they got bored with it. How did you get boring, because you had to "go here, kill him?" Didn't you do that in the previous games? So it is not like you didn't expect it coming, correct? Now I am going to compare it to a game that also got a ten. Yes, Metal Gear Solid 4. In this game, isn't it also reptitive? Land here, sneak there, and kill the boss? Doesn't it get boring with the long extended cutscenes? I'm not saying I was bored, but some did. I just would like to know why people did not like this game. If you say the story, then I guess you don't enjoy games then. Games like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, and other games have a serious story, why can't GTA have one? I guess what I am trying to say is...just explain to me why you hate this game so much?

you still have to sneak and/or kill the guards..and then fight the boss at the end of the act

Gray26233d ago

Have you even played MGS4? The controls that are the same for each act, most of the time,(ie shooting, sneaking, crouching, aiming) but in each act there are entirely different things you are doing, and different ways you accomplish totally different objectives.. I'm not gonna say what they are because I don't want to spoil them for people who haven't played it. Anyways, MGS4 and GTA IV are equal in my eyes

N2NOther6243d ago

Yes, but the level design requires a different approach each time...Also, each Boss is COMPLETELY different than the one before it...

BUT, I think GTA IV was an amazing game and certain tied for my Game of the Year, with MGS 4.

If people got bored with GTA it's because they didn't appreciate what Rockstar was doing with it...Shame too because it's the best one yet.

Because this is not what a sandbox game is supposed to be. A sandbox game is supposed to be a game in which you can you ridiculous things and have it seem the norm.

Go back and play GTA 2. I had more fun running around blowing things up in a decade old game than in this one. Rockstar took the GTA series and made it serious. I didn't play GTA so that I can drive my head-fecked retarded cousin around and have him call me everytime he wanted to go drinking.

I play GTA so that I can run around shooting cops and hitting old ladies with my car. Yes, I can still do this with GTA IV. But I feel like its watered down. I want to throw a Molotov coctail (sorry for the misspelling N4G won't let me spell it right because it has a bad word in it) at one car in a traffic jam and almost immediately have 5 stars because it ended up blowing up 17 cars.

Also, the fact that they FORCED YOU TO PLAY THE STORY really pissed me off. I couldn't give two craps about Niko's life. The only really I play GTA is to get to know Niko's trigger finger. Until you completed a certain amount of the storyline (which by the way, wasn't really that good, especially when you compare it to other games which focus on story)the bridges to the rest of Liberty city are blocked off.

And that is why I think GTA IV is overrated.

Hercules6243d ago

they didnt force you do to anything..you could pause the story anytime..if you are talking about bridges then thats nothing new..go steal a helicopter....have you tried the gas station yet?

N2NOther6243d ago

You had to play 4 missions before you could got the cell phone...Big deal. You could shut off the cell phone at any time so you could wander around...But, really, it's funny that you didn't like the game because the developers decided to make it a certain way...That's like not liking a movie because you didn't like the direction the story went in...You're either on board with what the makers intended or you aren't...But that doesn't make the game overrated because a TON more people did like it than didn't...This seems to be the only place where I've seen a large group of people that didn't...

...which is different than games like PROTOTYPE, InFamous, or Crackdown, which doesn't allow for a "normal" lifestyle type of gaming. Here's what I mean:

going anywhere into a city is one thing, going inside everywhere in a city is the next step we are (read:I was) looking for, and to be honest, GTA IV didn't deliver on that front because they couldn't deliver it; heck, they couldn't even deliver crowds of people to make the city look alive.

For everything GTA IV did right they also did wrong or fell short. The game seemed like a movie, but the game also had very gimmicky gameplay mechanics. The little touches that the people in the background did was inspiring, but the city looked like a ghost town compared to the bustling crowds in New York; People there are walkers, and when you see a city emulating New York, you better get it right, Jack. The game had in-depth characters, but the game also did nothing to involve you in their lives other than "hanging out"; and even when hanging out, why couldn't you go to a football game or just have some fun at the beach? I would love it if they had a scene where they talked about a plan in code while they're fishing in a quiet lake.

GTA IV you could do anything you want, as long as you don't ask for too much over the last version of the game. GTA IV suffers from to much of "more of the same" and not enough of "a little different".

GTA: SA had almost everything you could think about. You could change your hairstyle, choose from about 3 or 4 clothing stores, parachute down from a plane, etc.

GTA just took a step back which shocked many people, but honestly I don't have anything against the game and I still play the multiplayer rom time to time/

Sony's PS5-Era Studio Acquisition Spree Has Been A Disaster

Kotaku writes: "So many teams were told to pivot to live-service, only for that plan to blow up in Sony’s face, and now it’s having to deal with all of that and is doing so in the fashion you’d expect from a large multinational corporation: layoffs, cuts, closures, and shutdowns."

JC411h ago

Don’t worry, the ride isn’t over yet!

More layoffs and studio closures coming when:

1. Marathon flops
2. Fair games flops
3. Horizon hunters flops

Goodguy0110h ago

Greed, overconfidence, agendas, western focused, and live service really changed em...6 years and barely any knockouts as great as the previous gens...what a generation ps5 has.

PlayStation needs restructuring. Make Japan their main HQ and focus again. It's what made the previous gens so special and of great quality without all this BS. Bluepoint being closed down among their other great smaller studios has really gotten me disappointed in them.

Relientk7731m ago

I completely agree with this and it needs to happen. Japan Studio and Bluepoint should have never been closed in the first place. What stupid decisions.

isarai_lee9h ago

This entire generation has been a wash so far, when it comes to next gen they're going to have to redeem themselves before I actually buy it.

I don’t think they will make new hardware. They’re out
