Like the Europa Universalis games, Medieval II Total War is a grand strategy game with the ability to command the troops in battle instead of just giving direction to an army icon on the map terrain. Each kingdom in the game has pros and cons in the game; Spain has a good naval units and strong light infantry and cavalry, while this nation lacks heavy infantry and spear men in the earlier periods of the game, Byzantinium on the other hand, has a good heavy cavalry and good archers while it lacks gunpowder units in later periods.
There are two goals in the game to choose from; long and short game. In choosing the long game players have to hold forty five regions, including a special province specific to the nation he uses and in short game players need to hold fifteen regions and defeating a country specific to the nation he uses.
Medieval II Total war lets gamers play a battle mode in which they only control a massive army that they choose and try fighting the enemies he chooses, this is an excellent way to strategize and turn the tables of war in the map mode of the game.
Also, players can use diplomacy, royal ties and religion to make a powerful empire. Creating alliances boost the military might of a nation with royal marriage at hand nations can be tied closer than alliances and religion play an important factor, especially if the nation is Catholic and has very good standing with the pope; if the players have a good relation with the pope the nobles of the player’s nation is most likely left alone by the inquisitors.
Players who want a grand scale strategy game without losing the brawl of soldiers will definitely enjoy this game with the game expansion titled Medieval II Total War: Kingdoms, it releases new nations to choose from and new units to use in the battlefield. I must say that this game eats a lot of space, 7gb in total and without the expansion, but this is a small amount of sacrifice for a great game.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.
