We know the retail prices of Xbox One($500) and PS4($400). We know Kinect is included in the box and we all assume the Xbox One would cost $400 without it. But we've failed to take into account how the Xbox One is weaker than the PS4. The GPU is cheaper. The RAM is much, much cheaper. Now, I don't have the connections or resources to do an estimate but I'd say the DDR3 RAM in particular can be had for a really really low price especially when purchased in bulk while the GDDR5 in the PS4 can costs as much as $100. An Xbox One could easily go for $350 without Kinect. Remember how much the original, less accurate Kinect went for at launch? $150. I don't think I'm willing to fork up that kind of cash for something I won't use.
To give you some perspective on my decision, let me start off by saying I am not a super hardcore gamer. I do play a lot of games but I also watch a lot of TV and Netflix. The TV features of Xbox One were very appealing to me when they were shown. It looked cool and it looked responsive. But then I got to thinking...switching inputs on my TV isn't hard. I don't need Kinect to do that. There are times when I don't play games for weeks or even months. I would still need to keep paying for Xbox Live gold just to watch Netflix. I'm not stupid.
So at $100 cheaper, a PS4 purchase couldn't be any easier. It's a bummer because I would have liked to switch over to the Xbox camp next-gen but there are just too many factors to ignore here. So my question do you guys is, are you willing to spend $150 on the next Kinect?

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
DDR3 and GDDR5 are essentially the same price.
The ever popular H5Q1H24 series GDDR5 can be had for $4 a piece.

Im getting a ps4 because it has the games i want.
The only thing i am interested in on Xbox 1 is Titanfall, but i can pick that up on PC or just wait for the inevitable ps4 version.
This console gen isnt like the highlander. There can be more than one. What a person doesnt find appealing now is not indicative of what will happen over time.
You can get an xbox when you are ready. I generally do the same thing. i may start a gen with a particular system as the front runner but at some point i pick up the other contenders because i like gaming to much to restrict myself to a single platform.
We can mock those who choose differently than ourselves but when the time comes for them to bite the bullet and pick up the same thing...they are just as welcome to the club as anyone else. So why mock in the first place?
We are all in the same hobby for the same reason. We enjoy games. no harm no foul.
