In 1984, I was playing an Atari 2600 on a Zenith 13" Black and White TV in the kitchen. It wasn't too bad, considering the games put out less than 30 colors anyway and the console itself had a black and white mode specifically for this contingency.
In 1986, I had an NES on a 21" RCA TV in the family room. In color! Of course, I had to quit if a sporting event came on or one of my mom's "stories" came on the tube, but it was there.
In 1989, that 21" RCA was in my bedroom, and the new Genesis never came off of it. There was a permanent Altered Beast logo on the television that persisted long after it was off.
In 1992, we had a Super NES in the Den, which Dad and me shared. Me on Super Mario World and he on Dungeon Master. The new 25" in there was absolutely huge. I still had a 21" in my personal space. with an amalgam of burned in game images clustered together on the screen.
In 1996, I was in an apartment with a couple roomates. People with my disposition for electronic entertainment. On the new 29" Sony TV in the middle of the living room, there were 3 switchboxes. An NES, a Sega Master System, Genesis, Super NES, PlayStation, N64, Jaguar, and 3D0 among others would find their way to a switchbox and eventually to the TV. Hardly a moment went by when some game wasn't on it, save for a few hours on Sunday during football.
In 1998, I met a very understanding lady who would put up with what had become an addiction.
In 1999, I had a 36" Sanyo TV, with about 15 various consoles hooked up in a electricians nightmare of wires, junction boxes and switches.
In 2007, I now own close to 60 consoles, and am a proud owner of a 46" Samsung DLP HDTV, and hooked to it currently are an XBox 360, a Dreamcast, a Wii, an NES, a PS2, and my old friend the NES. I have a quick junction box ready for swapping in other consoles as the desire to play specific other games arises. The package is completed by a 2.2 GHz Dual Core AMD with Windows XP Media Center and ubuntu Linux, with a plethora of PC games, and a 300w 5.1 Surround Sound system.
It's not pretty, maybe, but it's Gamer Nirvana. (Perhaps Nerdvana?) My house is dedicated to the love of one industry, and it's suited to the task completely. Games are the 4th most important thing in my life, next to my kids and wife, but luckily for me they will never make me choose.
The gamer has evolved. We're no longer confined to attics or garages, but we're taking over the main entertainment areas of the house. We have our gaming centers, lovingly referred to as our "setups" and treated with affection that rivals a gearhead and his car.
I invite you all to share here, pictures of your own "setups", big or small.

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.

I hope your wife got a special gift for mother day, she's definitely one in a million to let you have that kind of set up :)
I loved the dreamcast that system was without a doubt ahead of it's time. Too bad it failed to bring in the crowds...oh well I sure enjoyed it. Here's a pic of my set up, it's not much but it's in my bedroom where I can play with "minor disturbance.
