I'm sure many of you are looking forward to BF3 and think it will be awesome. I'm sure many of you are also console players and did not get the oppurtunity to play Battlefield 2/2142 in their prime. Well I am here to express my OPINION on why Battlefield 3 will be more like Bad Company 3. Of course, no one can know for sure until this October.
First off, I am disappointed to hear that the Commander feature will not be returning from BF2. The Commander feature added a more strategic way of playing and provided a true 'war' feeling.
Another disappointment is the inclusion of only 4 classes. The 6 classes in BF2 forced you to rely on teamwork more than anything. The less classes there are, the stronger each class will be individually. Look at the Bad Company series, there were only 4 classes and that made it easier for more people to disregard teamwork and play as a lone wolf. More classes equals more options and teamwork. BC2 streamlined BF2′s seven classes into just four. Rather than a simplified, four-guys-who-are-kind-of-dece nt-at-multiple-skills, let’s go back to highly focused and defined classes. Have players get a better sense of role and identity, rather than the “I can do this and that” that you feel with BC2. Which brings me to my next point.
BF3 will have 4 man squads. Which is most likely because there are only 4 classes. I am happy to see that Squad Leaders are returning, but with small squads it doesn't seem to make much a difference.
Another addition that made me sad to see was the added game mode, Team Deathmatch. Battlefield is not a game that should have TDM. It defeats the purpose of being a class based objective shooter which is based around teamwork. TDM provides no objective besides running around and killing people in recent Call of Duty fashion. No teamwork there. You might say, "Well there are other game modes, you don't have to play TDM." Very true, yes. But, I fear that this will attract more CoD-players(I'm sure that was DICE's intention), which will corrupt the Battlefield community with 'quickscopers' and 'killwhores'. The day TDM becomes the most played mode in Battlefield is the day that Battlefield dies. Mark my words.
There also seems to be too much focus on the graphics and technical features of the game. Don't get me wrong, the game looks and performs amazing(on PC at least). But 85% of the information I've heard on BF3 in the past few months is about how great the graphics look. I want to hear more about the actual features. Graphics don't make a game people.
As for console players, I feel bad. There will be smaller maps and lower player counts compared to PC. Not to mention that it will be running at 30 frames-per-second on console instead of the smoother 60 FPS. It will also only run at 720p, not 1080.
Don't get me wrong, there are some old features and some new features that I am glad to see included. The tactical reloading is a cool feature and I'm glad to see multiple firing modes returning. As well as Karkland(map), Squad Leaders and Jets returning from BF2.
In closing, I'm just not sold on this game yet. It seems there is too much hype for this game that it is blinding people. I fear it will become too much like Call of Duty. I'm sure the game will be highly praised and be a 'good' game, but will it be a good Battlefield game? I guess we will see what happens in October. Until then, good gaming.
PS: I'd love to hear some of your guys arguments for or against my opinion. I'm very open minded.

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
I think this game will be pretty good overall. I had no prolem with 4 man squads and no commander feature in Battlefield Bad Company 2.
And you complaing about team deathmatch? i would'nt worry to much. In Bc2 barley anyone plays team deathmatch, the majority of people are on Conquest and Rush.
30Fps is something that's always been with Battlefield game on consoles so it's really nothing new and you can't expect much with graphics very high end as well. I really do with we can have more players in a match though, maybe they'll figure out a way to optimize the game for more players.
If i do end up hating Bf3 I personally won't be heading to Mw3 unless they add something big into the game. I've stopped caring for cod since Mw2.
Should'nt be to bad though I play Battlefield Bad Company 2 alot and enjoy it every single time so i doubt their will be a differnce with this new one.
You don't really know much about BF3, do you?
I can't say I'll miss the Commander in BF3 when only 1/32 people get to use it. I remember vividly from my BF2 days, the commanders would just spam the spotted commands.

They're basically using the class system from Battlefield 2142, rather than BF2. I had a good 150 hours in BF2142 and I can tell you that the class system was perfectly fine in that game. I loved being able to develop a specialty for each class. As a Recon, you could either go in the direction of extreme marksmen, or covert spec ops guy.
Stop complaining about the addition of Team Death Match. If you don't want it, don't play it. Stay on the Conq or Rush servers.
The only valid complaint I can find in your post is the 4 person squad thing, but just remember that 32 doesn't divide into 6 evenly. At least with 4 person squads, no one is forced to be a lone wolf if they don't want to.
Death match shouldn't be an issue it is an extra mode rather have more than less, why complain if you are getting something else added not taken away. Don't play that mode.
Good article, and I must say you made a good point on the classes that I haven't thought of before. Having less classes would make it easier for people new to the game so I guess that's why they done it, but personally I think that if you have more classes with specific roles then people would be forced to work together more, e.g. an Assault comes under attack by a tank and will need an Anti-tank to destroy it, or if an Anti-tank became surrounded by enemy infantry and needs an Assault's help.
If they replicate the Multiplayer from BF2 and NOT BFBC2 then it will be a fantastic experience.
