Each day, various articles circulate on N4G.com. None get more attention than the articles that dispute one console over another. What one fails to realize is that no matter the 'outcome' of this console war, the real winners are us, the gamers. All we do is benefit from the companies squabbling over who's console is more macho than the other.
As of late, Microsoft and Sony have been having on-going statements declaring supremacy over their rival console. Whether it be about development issues in games, reliability of the console, or just the plain power that each console has, sometimes these articles can be plain brutal. Each company 'flexes' and tries to seem macho in hopes of trying to sway fence-sitters on which console is indeed supreme.
Meanwhile, out of the woodwork come the Microsoft and Sony fanboys to flame one another on who is supreme. Sometimes these articles can have an upwards of 200+ comments just debating who is better. Now despite each consoles following, it seems that Nintendo has the right approach. They stay behind in the shadows, so-to-speak, and keep to themselves which enables them to be a silent yet deadly competitor.
Some may argue that the Wii is NOT a next-gen console, but irregardless, this new console is having tremendous sales numbers of consoles and games alike. The Wii offers a great system for quite a low price with many innovative ideas using the wiimote/nunchuck combo. So how are we benefiting from this console war you ask?
Well let's take Sony's Playstation 3. It's a powerhouse system with many great features and games. Although some may say the Playstation 3's game library is lacking, for being almost a year old console, I think it's doing pretty good.
Sony recently announced a price drop on their system. It seemed to be just what the doctor ordered, as many individuals jumped on this opportunity to finally purchase this robust, yet formerly high priced system. Sales jumped over the following weeks and ultimately, although behind in sales still compared to it's two rivals, it's gaining momentum leading into this upcoming holiday season.
Microsoft decided that it was a perfect time for them to announce their price drop, just a mere couple weeks after Sony's announcement. Many think this was a low-blow to Sony fans but once again, who comes out on top? We the gamers. We now have two formerly high prices consoles, now available at more affordable prices and sometimes bundled with phenomenal accessories/games.
With the holiday season just around the corner, it is highly rumored that Microsoft has another $50 price drop in the works before or around Black Friday. One would expect Sony to retaliate with another price drop as well, but only those within Sony know.
I guess this whole banter is just a call for fanboys to realize that despite who your favorite console is, each system has quite a lineup for this holiday season and we're all going to come out on top from this. Take a seat back and watch as Sony and Microsoft both try to gain more fan base, which means more price drops to come as well as new features and games to follow.
For reference I own two Xbox 360's and one Playstaton 3. I don't care which system is more powerful and I don't care which one has more features. I own both of these and it enables me to enjoy the best of all worlds. I sold my Wii, as it really didn't fit with my family's gaming habits, but while I did have it, I enjoyed the system thoroughly.
So let's all enjoy the coming months with great hit games coming to store shelves in the near future. Each console has a plethora of features and games coming out so let's just enjoy what this 'console war' brings.

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
This is what everyone needs to read on this site (but probably won't) and realize that they need to give the PS3 a chance and even if you love your Xbox360, you should be open to other consoles because you can only benefit from the experience that they offer. If there was no competition from Sony then Microsoft would have a monopoly on the console market much like the PC market with Windows! The bottom line is that people don't investigate and read up on things enough. They just go to the store and buy before researching products. My point is is that fanboys need to start realizing that it's good that Sony didn't just roll over and die because you think your Xbox 360 is superior! If that happened, Microsoft would have you by the balls and could charge anything they want for Xbox live!
Save some of it for the link, buddy!
This bloody war for the consumers gaming dollar is good for gamers. Only a fool wants one console to decimate the other.
Look at Madden. They stepped up their game this year because of competition - something they didn't have the last 2 years.
Look at the great games coming out for all consoles - look at the exclusives for both consoles. Only the most deluded fanboy would say that none of the announceed games for either system appeals to them.
now why exactly is it you own two 360's?
As I explained in the post, I don't care about Microsoft's reliability of the console. Their turn around, if I get 3 red lights, is awesome. I have 2 Xbox 360's because my wife and I love to play some of our games together. Final Fantasy XI is the big kicker and the main force behind my decision to buy another one.
Plus, I bought my premium shortly after launch. We needed the Elite for the bigger HDD and all the other features it has. It was overall just a wonderful choice for us.
Lastly as I've said, I love ALL of the next-gen systems. That's why I own/have owned all of them. I don't buy into the fanboyism as some people do, and don't think one is superior over the other. To me, there is nothing the 360 can offer that the PS3 can't do, sans some of the games and other minor stuff.
