everything looks good to me and even more importantly the lobbies online are full. what makes a nerd count sales of games and consoles?
was it your experience with the original xbox or the dreamcast or the genesis that has a person like you totally obsessed with the figures?

i think youre hurting yourself seriously. there has to be something more productive you can do with your life. conversations like these are short for a reason.

look at the games you compared, with xbox 360, 3 of those games are sequels, while ps3, only 1 was a sequel with any kind of good merrit. in the case of gears one, it was well marketed, plus it was the best looking game out for any system (imo) out at the time. i still remember the first add campaign with that old classic rock song playing in the background, it was amazing. ps3 on the other hand, only mgs4 had any real credibility to be a good game. resistance 2 i think didn't have as big a following, because resistance 1 was a bundle, so its not clear wether people bought the game, or bought the ps3 with resistance as a throw in. killzone 2 is a sequel, but kz1 and liberations were well received sales wise. lbp was a new ip that only hardcore gamers who researched games actually knew, while others had no idea. i think ms knows how to market established franchises while sony doesn't know how. if i were sony, i would have advertized during the superbowl at least once during the fourth quarter...would have done them some good for killzone 2

I don't think that that many PS3 owners bought only for BD. IMO I think it is very much about the demographics of the consoles. The PS3 is largely (not exclusively) bought by slightly older gamers than the 360 (mainly because they can afford the outlay) and I think that the older gamers get the more it takes to impress and are similarly less likely to get caught in a web of hype and publicity which accompanied many of the games you list meaning that they are more likely to be picky and wait for a demo or a price cut.

I also think Xbox live plays into it, the very tribal nature of online gaming and the fast movement from one game to another I think means that many 360 gamers will buy a game they perhaps are not sure about to make sure they are able to keep up with what there friends are playing and not be left out while the more single player nature of PS3 gaming means that this tribal compulsion is less.

Either way, take Halo 3 out of the list (which is a sales phenomenon akin to a Star Wars movie) and there is not much difference in terms of sales taking into account the different lengths of time on the market. Perhaps the sales end up much the same but while 360 has a stellar launch week followed by a swift drop off, the PS3 sells with more a slow burn over a period of months.

Regardless, leave sales data to multi national companies and just play the games; if only 1 other person buys the game then it doesn't harm our experience in an way (except a sparse online obviously)

Those sales figures you have given are wrong. And KZ2 is going to be more than 3.5 mil, the pre-orders in Europe alone are more than 1.1 mil.

here the problem the average age group for the ps3 is 35 and up right they all unemployment aahhahhahahahh they broke biatch.

It is a huge problem for Sony, developers aren't blind -they want sales and the 360 MOVES software big time. I wonder myself why the PS3 isn't selling, I just got off playing KZ2 and it is a really good game. The game I was is never got over 23 ppl outta 32 now I know it's Thurs midnight where I am but still should be jam packed in there.

I really believe poster above me is correct---it's all about marketing, and Sony can't hold a candle to the 360's marketing powerhouse.

Regardless of who sold more or not, the fact is that those franchises still sold well. That means we should continue to expect more of these games(or developers) in the future.

Like the first post said. The majority of ps3 owners bought it for the bluray player and not the games. I personally know about 8 people that own a ps3 player and a crap load of bluray movies and zero ps3 games.

mgs4 has sold 4.5 mil as of december 31 probably 5m by now

people get the 360 to play Halo, Gears and some of the other games...

Halo is a household name now and it's no shock that it sold that many...

I own a PS3 only and only because I can only afford one system and I like Blu-ray movies....it's personal preference..

I haven't played the MGS series until I played 4 and was blown away...

people who get the 360 get it because of Halo and get a bonus with Gears of War....not to mention the other great quality games they have in their lineup...but the brand names on that system that are exclusive are not well known...

the PS3 is purchased for brand names like MGS and God of War...but the other top names are now on both systems...like Final Fantasy, GTA, Resident Evil etc...and even though Resident Evil made it to the Gamecube before, it was still dominant on the Sony brand...

the newer quality games that Sony has put out and have coming out are new games that aren't well known even after putting out a game already for the console..like Uncharted, Resistance and LittleBigPlanet ....and then you have Infamous, MAG and the other titles that everyone is sick and tired of hearing about...

the point is...Halo sells the 360 and Gears kind of stole some of it's thunder except Gears 2 which I consider a ripoff since it's pretty much the same as gears 1...

Sony is busy re-building it's exclusives lineup while the 360 is putting out what is expected...

both systems are great, I just didn't want RROD, so I scooped up a PS3....and for the BD as I said before....but I am a gamer point blank..

1. not everyone who bought a ps3 uses it for games (i have five friends alone who just bought it for the blu ray and picked up cod 4 but that's it)

2. marketing - why has the average american probably heard of halo but not solid snake? microsoft isn't a marketing genius, but sony sure tries to make them look like one. just imagine if sony hired the apple marketing department. that alone would turn this thing around for them.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
