PS4 1 Year Later This is for the Players, Are you not entertained?

“Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears”
By William Shakespeare

No Seriously are you not entertained, are you enjoying your PS4?

Because the PS4 has been like a bat out of hell since it’s launch, I mean nothing can get in it’s way, not even the XboxOne, and that’s it’s only real competition. (unless of course you want to say PC’s but let’s just talk consoles for now) So has it lived up to the hype. Or would you say it’s been a disappointment.

So It’s almost been 1 year since the PS4 came out as we get close to Nov. and the question is has the PS4 lived up to the hype to you or has it been a disappointment? For me and maybe I’m biased but it’s been a blast, but what about for you?

Would you say it lived up to the hype or would you say it missed the mark?

It’s funny but people have different expectations when it comes to what the PS4 should be able to do. And that’s what made me want to write this blog post. The other day someone said to me, “I thought the graphics would be a huge leap, they just don’t see it, they don’t see nothing special from PS3, there the same graphics, just a little sharper, you hardly notice a difference.” (he pointed to a few games. (Assassin Creed-Black Flag, Battlefield, the last of us)

Wait What!... ? That statement got me thinking, what in the world are gamers expecting. I notice two things that seem to be happening here for some gamers, and I think Crytek (the people who made Crysis) said it best, “It’s getting harder and harder to really impress gamers.”

I told him this, “Those games look good, but they are not true Nex Gen games, they are just games that came over from last gen, you can’t really look at those games and judge what the new console will be capable of.” Do people not get this, the true Nex Gen games are just starting to come out.

I also should him some second son, and a smile came across his face. We are just getting started, the games that are coming are really going to step it up. Assassin Creed Unity is looking amazing. DriveClub is insane on car detail, especially in cockpit view. Just stunning.

Here’s a few things I’m really loving about PS4. And Why I think it’s a great upgrade.

1. The new Controller is Awesome, it doesn’t get enough credit but after you use it for awhile you begin to see how it just feels much better than the Dualshock 3. it’s a sweet upgrade, and it feels great even over long periods of use.

2. Love the Share button, having video of my gameplay is just awesome. And being able to upload it nice and easy, even sweeter. Taking a snapshot of something is perfect, love that feature.

3. Being able to upgrade the Hard-drive nice and easy, was really cool that Sony let you do this if you wanted more space, I put a 1TB drive right away because I knew I would buy more digital this time around.

4. Can Play while downloading/Games let you start playing while the game is still downloading. Real nice, needed this and finally you can do it.

5. GameShare, yes you can still do this on PS4 and it’s pretty sweet that it’s still here/ Also I know it’s not here yet, but gameshare’s little brother shareplay/ Coming Tuesday Oct 28th. Share Play - (Trust me this is a game changer) Man this is going to be awesome, that’s one feature I can’t wait to use, been wanting to do this ever since they talked about it at the Sony press conference. By far one of the best features for PS4. This is finally going to make online play feel as good as the good old days of when your friend came over to play on the system. Now they don’t even have to leave their house.

So how could you not like the PS4 right now. It’s a real good time to be a PS4 owner, if you ask me, not that you did ask, but if you did. I guess people really understand that this time around too, because the sales have been insane. There is no better way to explain the love PS4 has this time around.

For me, the biggest leap forward has been the interface, I love the way it all works, can it be slightly better, sure (Like add the notification that your friend has just signed on, like on PS3) But I’ve been on the fence on passing judgement, just because I feel like it’s been good so far and I feel like it’s also going to get better and better, Sony seems to be working hard on improving things.

Were just getting into the first year of the system and as we get the features we really want, it’s going to be an amazing system. I personally think Sony has done a really good job at trying to cater to the gamer, which is not easy. And this is a really good start in my humble opinion. But forget about me, how has your PS4 experience been?

-As it was said in the movie gladiator -“Are you not entertained?”/ “Have you not been entertained???”

Hold up.... you didn't say much about games?

Seriously you keep echoing sales as your reason for excitement. Features are entertainment now?

It really does seem like you seem vindicated about the sales mostly. Reread your post. You are admitting that the old controller sucked... I like the new one better but it's still my least liked controller.

As for your question. Love the design but I play games console for games. A god of war would be nice but now bayo2 is out I want a new ip with some creativity that isn't married to sonys old stuff. Blood borne has my attention yet i want to see more game play. Sony can be really hit or miss on that. Great start but nope still not entertained.

@ Scissor_runner

To be 100% honest with you, I cut all of that out because when I first post it, I was thinking wow this is way too long, no one is going to read all of this..

So yeah I say a little bit about games, at the top but I also cut the rest that went into games, because games are a personal thing, it felt like it distracted from the point, like while you may love COD ghost for example some hate it. And same could be said for Infamous or BF4, it's whatever you like -- nothing wrong with that, so I tried to just keep it on how do you like the system at the end of the day.

-So right or wrong, I cut that part, but thanks for the feedback. Maybe in another post I'll just talk games.
Love your username by the way... pretty funny.

No problem thanks for posting tbough. With out guys like you I would not be checking for blood born. I'm pretty hard on sony. I'm hard on nintendo also yet they are foxing or have foxed most of my grips. I really look for the good games no matter where they are.

Maybe you should have waited a year for games to flow in, It has been a pattern for most consoles to not have a vast lineup of games around release, though I would argue that the PS4 had the best launch lineup of games than the previous Playstation Consoles!

For me, the PS4 has been a disaster. So far, there has only been one game I care about which is a 1.5 year old remake of a PS3 game, Last of Us Remake.

Nothing releases so far has warranted a game purchase, and almost everything else in terms of daily use the Xbox One is better.

So I am left waiting by Sony for Bloodborne and Uncharted 4 in 2015 and nothing else at the moment. I could have essentially waited a year and a half before I got a PS4.

That said, game choices are highly subjective so I'm sure there are plenty that enjoy what the PS4 offers.

Crazyglues4139d ago (Edited 4139d ago )

@ donthate

I can understand that, if your waiting for a special game, then yeah, I can see your disappointment, nothing wrong with that.

Sadly I don't think there is anything Sony could have done to fix that, they did try to get these companies to get those games out for around launch, (Like I remember when Naughty dog said the studio was broken into two parts, one working The Last Of Us and the other half on Uncharted 4, and it still didn't make launch, but stuff happens I guess..

-But yeah I can see why you would be a little disappointed. It's a fair criticism (hopefully something comes along soon that catches your eye and you start enjoying the system) maybe shareplay might help with that, as you get to check out something from a friend that you didn't buy, but it turns out to be really good.

@ Scark92

Could have waited but this is really about the system, how are you enjoying the PS4, didn't want to take away from that message.

I just find it interesting to see how people like the PS4 now that they have bought it.. Like how's it going?

(I might still do a blog post on just the Games)
