Changes Coming to N4G

Hello N4Gers, Christopher here with an update on what will be happening with N4G as of tomorrow.

I don’t want to make you read an entire post before we get to the changes, so here we go:

The decision has been made to move N4G to a new system as well as change N4G from a site that is community driven in its content to one that is curated by a content team. Furthermore, there will be no comment section or user profiles with the upcoming change. The site will be an aggregated news feed.

Why not just fix N4G?

The site has seen its fair share of ongoing and escalating issues over the last five years. Through it all, none of the previous or current owners have been able to find a way to keep the site running as it is without encountering issues and ever-increasing costs. The decision was made to finally move the site to a new platform that won’t experience the same issues and ongoing costs.

Why are community features being removed?

The short of it is so that there is a focus on content curation instead of moderation. I’ve already breached the discussion of bringing it back in the future, at least with having a comments section, but I don’t want to make empty promises to you. For now, the site will forgo any form of moderation to focus on the content.

What about my site content?

We still want your content, and I want to do the best we can at promoting your content. I can’t say that things will work the same as they have regarding guidelines, but the goal is to continue to operate N4G as a place to get the latest video game news.

Once the change happens, sites can submit content to submissions@n4g.com for us to review and publish to N4G. You can also contact me directly at christopher@n4g.com for questions or to work with you however I can.

Closing Words

This change is massive. It’s sudden. No matter how you look at this, it’s a big step into a new future for N4G.

One thing is certain, without the N4G community being here day in and day out over the last twenty years this site would never have been possible. Some of you have been here for a decade and some so long that you have a space in your username. To say ‘Thank you’ seems small for the value this community has brought to this site, let alone from the contributors and moderators who kept the site going, but I say it nonetheless.

Thank you.

Damn, end of an era. Gonna miss interacting with the community but hopefully y'all can find a way to bring that back eventually. If it does happen, you can bet I'll be there. Love you N4G!

...there is always vgchartz. in any case, its been wild at times. I joined July 30th 2007. Damn near made it 19 years.

monkey6022d ago

Same, been visiting nearly every day since May 2007.

19 years is crazy, even wilder to see it end but the writting has been on the wall for a while now.

Take care of yourselves and your hobby everyone.

So this is really goodbye?

Including my lost account I’ve been here roughly two decades, when this place was called News 4 Gamers! I used to love how buzzing this place was reporting the gaming news. In the Xbox 360 / PS3 generation (the best generation?) there was so much happening, so much going on. The format wars etc, With most magazines folded and gaming websites shut down the industry has changed that much that i wonder if the collective of ‘gamers’ is really over.

Thank you to Christopher for your sterling work behind the scenes in keeping this place manageable. I just want to say thank you to all the other community members, it’s been a wild ride of banter and good natured arguing. Gaming has brought us all so much joy, long may it continue. I wish you all well and happiness. See you in another life,

Goodbye. 🫡

I joined here August 8, 2007. Our accounts are only like a week apart. We've both been here so long. Cheers Darth

LikAChicken1d 20h ago

Been visiting off and on since Sept 8 2008.

I will miss this site for sure. Been following throughout so many life changes.

Bathyj1d 17h ago

I started in February 2007.
So after 19 years we don't have a voice here anymore? This is literally the only place I talk about games and comment on. I'm not on Twitter or x or blue sky this was it. Pretty disappointing

Shadow Flare1d 15h ago

3 April 2006 I joined. Am I the only 2006 person here? I was here for the birth of this website, and now sadly here for its death. The community is it's heart and it's soul.

Before N4G existed there used to be 2 sites I believe called PS3today and 360daily I think. They decided to merge the 2 into news4gamers and putting the 2 console fanbases together to pit out was what resulted in one of the funniest and most alive gaming communities on the web. Seeing this website from it's beginning, I look back on those ps360 days man they were funny.

The absolute best times on this website came around E3 season. That E3 when Microsoft nuked themselves with the Xbox One announcement was probably the singular funniest event and when N4G peaked. It's funny, how things have changed. Now Halo is coming to PlayStation.

If there's one thing I've learnt it's that competition is a great thing. This site died when the console competition was over. And sadly the gaming industry has suffered for it too.

It's cool seeing names here I remember from all the way back then. Peace to you all.

Thanks to everyone here for making this site the incredible experience it was.

And thank you to Microsoft for all the good times. Thank you for making games consoles that were so easy to make fun of. You made millions of gamers happy, not because your console was good, but because you ran your gaming division so comically bad.

Peace.

@darthv72, I joined in December 2006 we're some of the og members of this site, lol.

It's been fun talking games with y'all.. thanks for the memories! Thanks n4g for providing this place all these years. Where we read gaming news and get to sound off with our sometimes dumb but always passionate opinions! Looking forward to the new site and fingers crossed on bringing back the community someday.

CDbiggen2d ago

Comments have seen such a drop off from years ago. No point engaging when the mods removed posts and ban people. Well done guys, you've finally killed it.

Mykky1d 17h ago

Had to recover my old account in order to write a last comment. I've been here literally half my life. I'm turning 32 and I've been a reader of N4G since 2010 when I was turing 16. (I loved the fanboy war between xbox and sony in the ps3/360 days on this site. That was fun 😅) It's been rather quiet here in recent years but I've always kept coming back. Not only for news, but because I want to see what usual suspects in the N4G community thinks about certain news and what they're arguing about. I want to thank contributers and commenters like Foxtrot, Darth, RelientK, bathyj, venomUK and many more for always sharing you opinions and keeping the comment sections alive. I doubt I’ll return to N4G if the community is gone as I’m well fed on gaming news from other sources.
Love you all, and may you succeed in all your future endeavours!

LightofDarkness1d 15h ago

2005 for me, back when it was an aggregate of aggregate sites (News 4 Gamers, news 4 Xbox, news for PlayStation etc). Nice to see some old heads popping up here. Peace to you all, I’ll really miss the E3 press conference fireworks 😆

derek1d 15h ago

Whats up LightofDarkness, been a member since December 2006. Yeah the E3 press conference coverage was always a huge part of the gaming landscape until it wasn't.

Really the end of an era, been around here on and off for years, but more and more it felt like the site was held together with tape, and I will find myself visiting less and less, but I'll still be sad to see N4G as we know it go.

Also a certain user is now gonna have to find another place for his tribalism lmao.

pwnmaster30002d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Petition to have them unbanned until the change so they can get everything out now lol

RaiderNation2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Releasing all the unbanned would be like the scene in Ghostbusters when Walter Peck shuts the power off of the holding facility!

shinXseijuro2d ago

I been visiting almost everyday since 2008 😩

Profchaos2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Same this last year the site has just felt broken trying to read replies or use the comment section just doesn't work

I have a feeling that particular user is why the community is struggling

Tacoboto1d 7h ago

There were always two particular users. Know very well the main one, but don't forget the nasty troll who was nearly as bad, the one N4G admins decided to make Member of the Month that single time, with the fake gift of a fake PS5 and all that.

The mods and admins never cared about the quality of the community. Particular users getting away with what they did, and being encouraged to do it, were symptoms of that problem.

Jin_Sakai2d ago

Not the news I wanted to hear! Sorry you guys couldn’t fix the site and cover the cost. Will really miss communicating with others about gaming.

solideagle1d 22h ago (Edited 1d 22h ago )

it seems to be an end of era. I have been around with bubble system and many of you were very knowledge when discussing new console specs etc. missed those days. Yes it was toxic at some point but it was fun as well.

I joined 15 Oct 2006 ( 7136d ago ), that's almost 20 years wow. I must be one of first bunch to join.

anyone who joined same time or before me?

Shadow Flare1d 15h ago

3 April 2006 here, you're the only other 2006 person I've seen. It's been one hell of a journey man. Definitely end of an era.

derek1d 15h ago

@solideagle we joined a few months apart in 2006, Shadow Flare seems to be the oldest og member, lol. I'll miss this place.

Eonjay2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I have spent a sizable chuck of my life on this site and will miss the site as it was. All good things it would seem really does come to an end. I will miss you all and hold hope to see you again in the afterlife of whatever N4G becomes. I am... saddened but unafraid. Let us go together!

LiViNgLeGaCY2d ago

Never really engaged with you, but always see your comments and usually gave you a like. Gonna miss seeing your takes on things, man.

Eonjay2d ago

Thank you I appreciate that alot.

Chard1d 19h ago

Did you used to have a FF9 avatar? Anyway, godspeed

Eonjay1d 2h ago

Honestly I don't remember lol. Same to you!

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio1d 2h ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing1d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster921d 1h ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit1d 1h ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing1d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9223h ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Report: Injustice 3 in Development at NetherRealm Studios

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
