N4G: New Year Update

Hello everyone.

It's a new year, so things are looking up!

At least that's what I'd like to be able to tell you. As you are aware, the site is the opposite of getting better. We're still dealing with the site errors when submitting content and now we're running into runtime errors that require you to refresh until they go away as well as ghost comments/actions due to these same errors.

Do I have answers for you?

I do not.

Have these been reported to the owners?

They have.

What do they say?

They are working on the issues but the problems are larger than they initially thought and they are working to find solutions.

Do you have a time frame of when that will be.

I do not.

WTF?

I agree.

---

I'm going to try and keep putting news on N4G. It's why I'm here. I hope that, at the least, getting some news on the home page for people to see daily will do something useful. But it's obvious that people are just not using the site as they used to because of these issues. I can't fix them and I can't wave a magic wand to make them go away.

I understand your frustration and I thank those who have used N4G for many years and are now looking elsewhere for their gaming news. I hope the site sees the turnaround it needs sooner than later.

Sorry, I just don't have any good news to give you right now.

Hi,
I have an older account, because of the tech issues it means I can rarely view my own profile and I regularly cannot view the website on Safari on iPad. Judging by the replies to standard interest articles it seems like there has been a knock on effect on engagement.

I used to go to a once popular video game forum, but after a period of tech problems members went away and many never came back (I must add that there were 'progressives' who thought it was their place to shout down anyone who expressed views they disagreed with, think peak Twitter banning era).

I'm not going to pretend I understand the intricacies of running a large website but surely the tech issues can be resolved just by hiring the right experts to fix it or moving to new hosts? If it's not resolved it might be that visitors slowly drift away so a punctual fix would be worth it.

I've been coming here since this place was News4Gamers! So I really hope everything gets resolved as it would be good if N4G is here to cover the PS6/Switch 3/SteamDeck 2 generation.

Anyway, Happy New Year everyone!

There's definitely something to be said for the implied value based on effort given.

These issues have been there for years... at least 4-5 years now I've been getting the "server error" message randomly. Doesn't sound like they're willing to invest much into this place.

Thanks for the update and being transparent with us. It's better than being silent for all eternity and leaving the users in the dark guessing. I hope the issues do get resolved and the users and activity on the site bounce back.

It's really a juggling act of sorts. Making sure I'm impressing those in charge how important this is multiple times without being 'too' pushy while taking the time to tell the public without it being too soon for the people in charge. I honestly wished this was all fixed so I could go back to worrying about whether my paychecks are coming from Microsoft or Sony based on public opinion.

Thanks for the update.

Darn. I hope this isn’t the end of n4g.

This week is the first I've actually been able to log back in. Strangely it works better on mobile, and not at all for Fire Fox on desktop. So I'm using Chrome haha

Anyway glad to see at least some update regarding the situation.

I'm never leaving N4G, it's so convenient having all gaming news in one place. Hope the situation gets back to normal 🙌🏻.
