N4G: Report PM Spam

Update: Now is a good time to remind people that, if they use their username/password on N4G elsewhere, they can change it from their profile settings. Using a password manager can help tremendously with managing tons of accounts if you have a fear of losing track of your passwords.

Hello everyone.

There have been a lot of previously dormant accounts hitting people up via PM recently. Apparently someone is taking this moment at home during this shut-in time to use them for spamming.

If you get a PM with a link you don't understand, report the user and we'll do our best to ban them.

HAVA has been informed of this, but they are affected similarly to everyone else at this time and may not be able to get to it right now.

Thank you,
Christopher

Thank you i thought it was odd i was getting PMs from accounts as far back as 2009 with no recent activity.

dumahim2115d ago

As far as I can tell, the four I received so far, none of them have ever even made a comment in the last decade plus. Someone's really playing the long-game.

Asuka2115d ago

yeah same here. I'm sure you (and most other people here) are aware not to click on strange links for obvious reasons...

VenomUK2115d ago

I've now had four and reported to a mod. Is there a button to report a user?

Asuka2115d ago

@VenomUK and everyone else

click on their name -> click on the "!" on their profile page (should be next to the PM envelope). Then fill out the form to submit the report =]

NecrumOddBoy2115d ago

I have received 4 PMs from 4 different assholes sending me a link to some suspicious site and asking if it's my website. Getting annoyed

Mooncake2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

So we're all going with "loads of old N4G users used the same credentials elsewhere", and not even entertaining the far more likely scenario that "N4G has had a data breach"? OK then.

The Wood2115d ago

Yep. Different user each time.

ravinash2114d ago

It's not like people logging onto this site might be using easy to guess passwords.
Particularly if these are old accounts.

Time for a clear out of old accounts I think.

bouzebbal2114d ago

I just reported 5 of these idiots

Muzikguy2115d ago

I got 3 as well from accounts I've never even heard of. Crazy what people do when they have a little extra time on their hands

porkChop2115d ago

I've been getting them every single day and just report them. So annoying.

RosweeSon2115d ago (Edited 2115d ago )

Glad it’s not just me had 4 in the last 24 hours or so haha
“Blocked” lol

L7CHAPEL2115d ago

Same here, with some ridiculous address asking if that is my profile or account...

addictedtochaos2115d ago

The exact same messages I’ve been getting.

I've had both "hey is this your account (spam link here)? " messages and random brand new account harassing me with insults and hate. Fun times whenever I log in.

vikingland12115d ago

I've got 4 of "hey is this your account" .

SegaGamer2115d ago

They must think we are idiots. Nobody is stupid enough to go to those links 😂

rainslacker2115d ago

@Sega

You'd be surprised. Out of a thousand, maybe only one will. But compound that over many thousands, and you get a lot of people clicking. it's a numbers game.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon Review [Capsule Computers]

Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes:

"It is hard to believe that there would be a time that not only would the Western releases of The Legend of Heroes franchise manage to catch up to the Japanese releases of this incredibly lengthy franchise, but that the game’s that helped kick it off would be getting remade at the very same time. A few months ago we reviewed the fresh remake of Nihon Falcom’s Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and now here we are, visiting the most recent release in a story featuring characters and plot elements spanning all the way from that very first game twenty-two years ago. It’s not often that a video game sequel requires full knowledge of its predecessors, and in many ways The Legend of Heroes tried to do that with Daybreak, but now that everything has gathered together in The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon, players best be ready for the most character packed, lore heavy, game of the franchise since Reverie."
