Mortal Kombat X PC Port - Badly Optimized

Now as I got my hand on the most waited game, but believe me, the same way it given me excitement has also pissed away my mood. No doubt it is one my favorite games of all time with all the new character like Erron Black, new ailities, arenas and game play has driven me crazy. I just can’t put my controller down as there is always a new experience. But one thing that has sort of taken 30% of my happiness and that is the bad porting of this game. I am PC gamer myself, never owned a PS4 because I find PC much more fun. I’ve played all NetherRealm Studios games (formally known as Midway) but none of them had any issues at all. Before I begin my complaints, let’ first have a look at the specs of Mortal Kombat X.

MINIMUM:
OS: 64-bit: Vista, Win 7, Win 8, Win 10
Processor: Intel Core i5-750, 2.67 GHz | AMD Phenom II X4 965, 3.4 GHz
Memory: 3 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 | AMD Radeon HD 5850
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Hard Drive: 36 GB available space

RECOMMENDED:
OS: 64-bit: Win 7, Win 8, Win 10
Processor: Intel Core i7-3770, 3.4 GHz | AMD FX-8350, 4.0 GHz
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 | AMD Radeon HD 7950
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Hard Drive: 40 GB available space

Now this is from Steam page and official WB requirement. My specs might be old but still I know it can play the game. I play this game on Quad Core 2.3, 6GB requirements and a HD 7750 GPU which I believe is old but can kill off the game. I play this game on medium resolution of 1360x768 but still I get choppiness even when I turned everything to low. I don’t like playing games on low but here I just want smooth FPS. After spending almost 12 hours working on the issue of this game, I come up with many things. This game is not properly using all the resources from GPU but instead is relying totally on CPU. The reason of stuttering, fps drops and choppiness on some stages like Sky Temple is because it using only few % of GPU power and totally putting it’s pressure on CPU. After some research on various Steam forums and other websites, there are indeed solutions there but still this game needs proper fix from the developers. Even though many guys who has Killer PC’s are facing the same problems which I believe is totally strange. One FPS fix that I found a little effective was deselecting one of the processor in the task manager then “set affinity”. Note that this only works on Quad Core Processors or more. This indeed reduced the fps drops but still it stutters a little bit in some stages like Outworld Marketplace, Emperor’s KourtYard and Sky Temple but still it is playable somehow. There are many working fix but still I voted to contact WB to instantly patch this game. There is a patch but the size is about 15GB which improves shaders and performance of the game. Still 15GB is something really odd to fix a game and those who have limited bandwidth will have to wait for a low size patch.

I hope the developers will take this matter seriously as many gamers including myself want to get full smooth experience of the game.

So MK X is a poorly optimized port because it doesn't run well on your PC that doesn't meet minimum requirements? However according to you it can "kill off the game." (whatever that means)

"My specs might be old but still I know it can play the game" That's why they list minimum requirements genius. According to those, you CAN NOT run the game.

Only thing worse then this feeble attempt at a review is your grammar.

I am not the only one complaining about the port.... check steam... yeah English is not my first language.. still I tried to write something here bro..may be you like judging others for their mistakes, No Offence.

Shinox3950d ago

ahh quit screaming with your big lousy mouth apologist , just because your PC is capable enough to run this game it doesn't mean you are going to stop others from criticizing developers , quit talking and go to Steam forums and see by yourself , why people are so ignorant to give developers a free pass when it comes to unbelievable bad ports , why do gamers these days don't ask for a better services when it comes to PC gaming ? MK10 graphically doesn't look that different from MK9 and it boggles me how people doesn't notice that , stop fooling yourself by jumping into the hype wagon , the PC version is indeed unoptimized crap just like the rest of terrible ports been released since 2014 .

Your attitude lessons developer incentive to finish the games they make. A superior platform isn't immune to criticisms, even scathing.

Now go back to your Ultra Settings modded build of Witcher and stop complaining about complaining.

I'm using an i3 and I can run it.Im using gtx 860m and 12 gb ddr3.Its funny cuz I went to the can you run it website and it said I couldn't on this game and a few other games that I have running at 60fps and greater. The only time I expierence unplayable frame rates is on sky temple and that jungle level for some reason. If I take the resolution down from 1080p to 900 the issues go away on those levels. So yeah I see what he means about poorly optomize to a certain extense

I got another fix here. however it worked for me

You can see my Spec on the above blog, its not good but still manages some how.

Here what I did: (For AMD CARD users)

open AMD Catalyst, Add both mortal kombat x launcher and MK10.exe

Put texture filtering quality to performance

Use razor booster to close any unnecessary background windows

launch the game and change the settings to following.

Resolution = 1280x720 (must be 59 hz refresh rate)
Anti aliasing = FXAA
Window mode (don't play on full screen if you want better fps)
Texture = High
Shadow = High
Particles Density = Full
Everything On except Motion Blur which should be off

After this go to training or single fight. choose fighters and then choose the arena that stutters i.e. Sky Temple or Outworld Marketplace. Play a little while, it may stutters but then the gameplay will become fine.

This way you can play all arenas but sometime character intros and x-ray may stutters but those are fine for me..

Hope it helps, sorry for my english

Dude, if you want to reduce stuttering, force Vsync off in Catalyst Control Center.

I've done it on my GTX 760, Sky Temple is literally 90% smooth now. The reason it stutters like hell is because the game either forces a 60fps lock or a 30fps lock. Sky Temple is very, very particle heavy and that affects performance. I can push 60fps in every map but Sky Temple, which runs at an average of 56fps. That means that the middle area of the map runs below 60fps, and the game constantly tries to switch between a 30fps lock and a 60fps lock. Forcing Vsync off resolved that issue, it can now run at 56fps or whatever it can.

Another great fix i found today... when you start the game ... disable controller and play with keyborad.. you will get smooth fps... weird

The new Dead or Alive was probably the best announcement from the show for me.
