Japan Relief and N4G

Cat|5588d ago |Blog Post|37|

Hey, N4Gers! A rather serious post for you here, though one I think we can all tackle with vigor. The devastation in Japan is difficult for most of us to imagine, but what we have seen and heard makes us want to help however we can. For most of us, so far from the disaster, we won't ever feel like we can do enough.

Below you will find a list of organizations that are active in Japan disaster relief. We aren't advocating any of these charities over another, but have sought to provide you with a respectable list - please do your own research so you can give responsibly!

We, N4G, have donated $3000 to MSF (Medicins Sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders) on behalf of the N4G community. MSF currently has several teams in Northern Japan, with more teams on the way. Their doctors, nurses and support staff work alongside the Japanese disaster authorities to provide aid in the wake of the earthquakes and tsunami.

Thank you to all of you for being a part of N4G, we're grateful for this opportunity to give with you.

I'm donating money, but is there anywhere we can donate clothes and toys for the children as well? I have a fair bit of Japanese manga and I'm willing to send some over for the children to read. Will give them at least SOMETHING to do in your evacuation shelters.

Hey, Optical_Matrix! If you do some research I'm confident you'll find a worthy charity to help you out. We opted for financial donations because sending items can strain an already strained infrastructure.

Completely understandable. Thanks for posting the financial links as well. Will be sure to make my donations. Good on you :]

Optical: While your donation might be well meaning, clothes and toys and... well, anything other than cold hard cash... will actually make more of a logistical nightmare than doing good, and those items may never make it to the people that need them. Sorry to rain on that parade, but there are quite a few articles about this. Right now, these aid organizations need liquid assets.

Not to belittle your generosity, but the best thing you can do right now is give money to a reputable organization, like the International or American Red Cross or the Salvation Army.

I see others have commented as well, but I wanted to throw my two cents plus interest in.

And bubbles for your generosity too.

Sorry I accidentally clicked disagree, my mistake. Thanks for this helpful blog though. Since I have a job I am able to make a donation. Is paypal the best way to make a donation? Thinking of using my debit card but kind of hesitant for security measures.

JL5588d ago

If you feel any reservation about giving out your credit card information or such things, Paypal is still a definite way you can go to donate and it will keep you from having to give out that information.

Simply visit the Paypal site and you'll see right there on the main page where they're taking donations. You can do an instant $25 donation or you can put in a specific amount. They have several organizations they're collaborating with on it as well so you have a few to choose from.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing65d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit65d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing65d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9265d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
