As I am sure you are all well aware, the Resident Evil 5 demo from
Capcom has hit the Xbox Live Marketplace. Myself and a friend
immediately grabbed this demo and jumped right in for some coop
action. I must say I was immediately blown away, the graphics are
downright gorgeous and the gameplay is great as well. The gunplay
feels great and is immediately satisfying, especially when blowing
zombie heads apart.
Another thing we found about playing the demo was that it was quite
difficult, and required some team work to stay alive, as once one of
you dies you have to restart the level. Thankfully you can heal your
partner and yourself at the same time if in close proximity when using
a healing item. After some trial and error my partner and I were
playing well and having a blast doing so.
After some time with the demo I hopped onto some gaming forums to
see what the general public thought of it. I was expecting praise and
positive reviews, however what I found was quite surprising. Instead
every second post or thread was pertaining to the controls. Apparently
a lot of people had an issue with not being able to run and shoot at
the same time. Then there was the other side of the argument that a
lot of the RE veterans had, they were stating that this is what creates
the tension within the Resident Evil series, and it has worked since
the series’ creation. I would have to agree that not being able to
move while lining up your shot at the oncoming zombie horde certainly
does create tension and panic, and I believe this works well within the
Resident Evil universe.
Are people completely missing the point that this game rocks? The
gameplay, physics, graphics and sound are all excellent. I would play
the game with a ball and a rubber spoon if that is how Capcom intended
the game be controlled. I personally cannot wait until March 16th to
get my hands on this masterpiecee. Do people really find the controls
that much of a game breaker?

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
but it is a very convenient excuse to say that remaining still while shooting adds to the suspense. I call BS on that card. The fact that you're a walking turret that can't move when shooting (nevermind that you're character is a bad ass soldier and not some ordinary person), combined with a melee attack that is essentially useless all adds up to a very frustrating experience.
If you like those controls then more power to you. I'm very disappointed that Capcom hasn't at least added an option allowing movement while attacking. Gears, Uncharted, DeadSpace, and many other 3rd person shooters have done this.
And the controls being the same as they were in RE4 is no excuse.
Maybe I am missing something here guys but in the PS3 demo you can move and shoot... i was doing it 10 minutes ago... Read the PS blog if you want.
I completely agree with you. I dedicated an entire blog post as to why people aren't enjoying the RE5 demo. A lot more of them than you'd think actually have never played a previous Resi game, so of course after playing Gears of War for the past 2 years, going straight into unfamiliar territory is clearly why they hate it.
And to Lifendz, why shouldn't the controls be similar to RE4? That game was amazing. All of those other games you mentioned aren't even in the same league as RE4, and some of them took alot more inspiration from it than you would think. If it was good then, why should that suddenly change? Its called survival horror/action, just not some other mindless shooter. Are you saying that the inability to move is unrealistic and doesn't create tension? Thats the point of the game, this isn't supposed to be Gears (and it should never be!).
Nice to see that someone is spending time enjoying the game like I am, and not ripping it to shreds for a development decision.
