2008 Quality vs. Quantity Battle: PS3 vs. 360

I'll start off with my editorial interpretation of the Metacritic statistics:

1. PS3 filled store shelves with the best titles in 2008.

2. Xbox 360 provided the best selection of downloadable games in 2008.

3. Both systems provided a formidable selection of quality both online and on retail shelves in 2008.

4. Xbox 360 sees nearly as much shovelware as the Wii.

5. Xbox 360 has a whole lot of ports from older & other systems (PC, Arcades, Dreamcast, and even PS2) . . . I've included all of these titles here because they are not on the PS3, but many of these Xbox 360 games could hardly be considered new or exclusive.   This list does not include any games that are available for both PS3 and Xbox 360.

This isn't surprising. The 360 is much easier to develop for and more people own the console in the U.S. than the PS3. It's a no brainier for developers. Most PS3 owners wouldn't buy that crap even if it came to the system.

"Most PS3 owners wouldn't buy that crap even if it came to the system."

It's not like 360 owners are any less selective. A crap game is a crap game no matter what system it's on.

I honestly do not agree with you. I believe your statement to be outright false. This is coming from my experiences working at Microsoft Game Studios. Both "sides" are guilty of hyping "shovelware" titles, but 360 gamers are much more susceptible to purchasing those turds upon release. Microsoft's advertising division is just THAT good.

You're missing Motorstorm 2?

callahan096296d ago

It is missing. It's not the only exclusive missing. For some reason, certain games didn't have enough scores on Metacritic to be included in their "List by score" at the time of my research.

Man_of_the_year6296d ago

WOW that is a HUGE difference. Good Job on researching the numbers.

heroicjanitor6296d ago

Sports games don't count as games apparently:)

But what about far cry 2, fallout 3 and motorstorm 2?

callahan096296d ago

Did you read the part where I said multiplatform games aren't included? As for Motorstorm 2, for some reason Metacritic was "awaiting" more ratings for that game at the time I did this research, so it was not included.

Public Eye Creators Wolf Games Are Switching To AI-Generated Gaming

When Wolf Games unveiled its debut title Public Eye, the announcement felt less like a routine game launch and more like a signal flare for the future of

ApexLanding232h ago

I will never purchase an AI generated game, I will not contribute to something that takes away artistic human expression and creation in gaming. I'm not one of those people who says, "I hope this fails" like so many often do about everything gaming these days but on this one I have to. AI has it's place, just not here.

That’s It, I’m Calling It, Xbox Is Dead, Time Of Death February 20

If you read Kotaku even semi-regularly, you already know that Xbox has been in a weird spot for some time now. And with today’s news that both Xbox boss Phil Spencer and President Sarah Bond are leaving and the new head of the brand will be a former Meta exec who previously lead Microsoft’s AI division, I think it’s time to call it. Xbox is dead. Time of death: February 20, 2026

God! Xbox dead again! Boring! Boring. Heard it all before.

InUrFoxHole3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

While I normally agree... The future of xbox is on shaky ground. Well, xbox as we know it. Im not sure what they are shooting for but who they put in charge mixed with Phil retiring and bond just flat out leaving. It's not looking good.

Levii_924h ago

Oh come on, Xbox has been dead for at least 10 years now. I think what’s more important right now is Playstation’s death that is very slowly but surely happening through mismanagement and greed.

InUrFoxHole3h ago

Some what agree. Sony is in a better position to unf#$k themselves. Xbox isn't.

ocelot072h ago

I actually agree sooner Hust is gone the better.

Grilla1h ago

Delusional take, why do xbots always project Xbox’s problems onto PlayStation?

The_Blue3h ago

This is why the views and comments are low, with lame articles that use divide-and-conquer pretensions.
