Before i start please click my profile and view my account pic: Note that i am representing both the xbox and the playstation, holding their respective controllers near my face. before we start. I know its petty, but i will have no condescending gamer come here and call me the F word.
I felt like this needed to be said because of how this game is lighting up N4G right now. Personally i have been excited about this game just as long as i have been excited about ff13. Its a final fantasy installment, part of a series in fact, in the Fabula Nova Crystallis project.
I have been excited about it since its conception as i am a long time lover of Final Fantasy and SQuenix in general. When the game was announced quite some time ago, it was indeed announced as a Playstation exclusive.
Gamers, ive brought you here today because it has become quite obvious, at least on n4g, that the majority want the game to remain exclusive to the ps3.
No matter what you say to dignify that, it is very peculiar that such an opinion arise at all. There may be many things you can say to convince me that it should be exclusive, but i find that the idea is not born of good intent.
I have brought you here to tell you how very immature and selfish i find that idea. I have gotten down in the front lines (comments section lol) to really dig in and see what would make a person wish such a thing, and i think ive gotten the most viable responses.
Square enixs goal for ff13 was to bring their epic technical masterpiece to "As many gamers as possible" Having bought the game for Xbox (MONTHS BEFORE I GOT MY PS3, just clarifying) I can say that they reached that goal.
While my version was considered inferior (by redundant comparison) I felt like i experienced all the game has to offer. Sure if its playing on an HD tv next to the ps3 version in frame specific precision i'll think it doesn't look as good.
But luckily, i wasn't and i took the game for exactly what it was: A shiny, if flawed, venture into what was to come from the FNC project. Personally, i didn't love the game, but i can practically assure you that my opinion of the game would not have been different at all. For proof, please don't hesitate to check my other blog posting, "That Chore Feeling".
Now i'll save us a little time and make the most common points in the argument first.
"It will suck like FF13 did, if they make it for xbox as well. It well be linear, and they will remove huge chunks of gameplay and graphics and exploration and weapons and monsters and shorten it and it will be a bad game just like FF13."
The reason the argument above is not valid is because there is no way for any of us to tell if it can be substantiated. Who among us can prove what a perfect, flawless creation ff13 WOULD have been if it was ps3 exclusive? In fact, It can be be argued that things were added because of the multiplatform change. If you disagree with that, it matters not because it cannot be proven or disproven. Only SE themselves know how the game was developed or changes made with the multiplatform announcement.
I personally think that is ridiculous. We cannot say how long the game was being developed for the 360. The port to xbox was possibly a consideration (or, if you wanna get nasty, in development!) for much longer than it was knowledge to the general public. They intended to make a huge splash of the news (which they did) to amplify the games hype.
The second most appearing point.
"Development time will be drastically upped and we will have to wait two more years for release"
This is even more good ol' ASSuming. When final fantasy 13 was first announced, it was as a ps3 exclusive, correct?
And then , when it was announced for xbox, it made a huge impact right?
And then, within just over a year after the reveal the game was released right?
Well could it be possible that the same approach has been taken for versus from the beginning? Is it a possibility that the guys at SE are more clever than they're leading on and are just repeating ff13s hype explosion?
In fact, history says that they are probably doing the same thing again, making a catastrophe of the excitement, tantamount to record breaking sales. My point is that we cant say how long development of a 360 version would be , IF it isn't being developed beside the ps3 version, which is a valid argument for the first ff13 because like i said WE DONT KNOW! Furthermore, assuming makes the ass of only you.
I PMed a person i saw attacking the thought of a 360 version, to get to the heart and soul of the attack. I wont reveal his name and compromise his identity, for obvious reasons.

hi. i just read u calling ### a troll for saying ff13V should go multiplat. How does that make him a troll, if you dont ming my asking, in an article about ff13V on 360??
HIM
Everyone knows he is a troll.
ME
but i dont understand. y n gods name would u not want a 360 owner to be able to play FF13V?? Y?
HIM
That i dont mind what i do mind is this
-gfx downscaled to work on 360
-linear like ff13 cause multiple disks kills the free roam element
-1 year we have to wait more
-No Japanese Va just like ff13
IMO 360 has been holding back multiplatform games since 2008 with gta4.
ME
But i dont see how your forming that conclusion. GFX downscaled? the way i hear it, the game looks better on ps3 so how exactly does that downscaling affect you? i must have missed that one. You dont think the game would have been linear? you think they scrapped tons of open world maps and traded them when they learned it would hit 360? what exactly is your bases for such an assertion? Who can say what ff13 WOULD have been , for all you and i know they made it bigger when it hit the white box. Multiple disks is a problem for 360 owners, not ps3 owners and how in the f*ck did putting it on 360 negate japanese voice acting? Multiple disks doesnt "kill the free roam element" just look at star ocean 4! free roaming on ps3, free roaming/disk swapping AND free roaming on 360.We will have to wait one year more? really? is that why it took more than 5 years for ff13 to come out because it was on 360?
So its safe to assume that your opinion is if it werent for a 360 release we would have been playing the game back in 2005 when we saw the first trailers for it? 360 has been holding back multiplatforms since 2008? what about games like bayonetta and the new RDR which are universally agreed to offer the best experience on xbox? Whats wrong with gta4? no wait, judging from the way this is going, i should say What would Gta4 have been were it not released for xbox? Im startingg to see a pattern emerge. not to spark, but i can practically feel your hate for the xbox coming off my computer screen. dont make me use the F word.
He hasnt sent me his response yet, but something tells me that he will still be defending his position, and i have to respect that. What i dont respect is single console gamers bashing square for contemplating a 360 release.
Like with the first ff13, they may want to bring ffv to as many gamers as possible, and as much as it kills you, that includes the millions of xbox only gamers.
I'm sorry if my opinion seems geared, but i would have rather played ffxiiis "inferior next to ps3" version, Than to not play it at all (because that, at the time, was my option) Or, to get a ps3 and i wasnt confident that minor changes in a multiplatform game warranted a 300+ dollar purchase, me personally.
In the end, none of our opinions really matter that much. SE is still a company and games are still a business. Maximized profit potential is clearly the multiplat move, but who can say at this point.
It truly saddens me to see the route that gamers are taking these days. All this "xbox held that back" or "will hold that back" is depreciative of the experience as a whole, and now we're starting to speculate what it could have been if it were exclusive?
Please, this is getting ridiculous. Uncharted 2 could have been bigger and better if they fused the processing abilities of all next generation consoles and the big 3 invested all their resources into a single format.
But thats not what happened, and we were rewarded with a phenomenal game nonetheless. Some people got ffxiii for xbox and guess what? they liked it. They deserve the same opportunity with this new title, however flawed the xbox version may be. I know a ps3 owner personally who would kill for a faulty ps3 port of Mass Effect, but hes being shafted.I want him to be able to play it, just like i was able to, because its a great game. Anything else is selfishness.
Tell me your position on the matter in comments, and as always, thanks very much for the read.

I think you put across a very structured response which I concur with. After all, I don't think the comment section on these articles allow for such contemplation.
First off - FFXIII sucked IMO. What a boring chore of a game. If VS is going to be anything like that, someone needs to let me know so I don't waste my time with it.
Second -"Please, this is getting ridiculous. Uncharted 2 could have been bigger and better if they fused the processing abilities of all next generation consoles and the big 3 invested all their resources into a single format."
I really don't understand what you are getting at here. The Wii too? Wii aka recycled Gamecube would make the processing power weaker and so would the 360. I don't think anyone would ever try to argue that the 360's process can keep up with the Cell. I think you were implying to have a one console market with all three companies owning stake. I think this would be horrible! Competition keeps the prices down and the features flowing. I don't see any benefits of a monopoly.
I don't care about any games going multiplatform as long as the PS3 version is not gimped to be on par(which usually ends up worse) with the 360. I don't think anyone is debating the PS3's graphical advantage over the 360. Between bluray, the cell, and xdr ram... I think the Sony first party devs have shut up the doubters. I just wish they would share their resources with 3rd party devs.
