Ok, its time for All The Rage to have a take on this whole motion control sensation

WE here at all the RAGE would like to preface this entry thusly: WE may
make fun of the Wii but in no shape or form do we BASH those who are
Wii fans.

Ok, on to the next one. I don't care if you
are hardcore, softcore, casual, whatever it is you classify yourself.
To me its a gimmick. Just a gimmick. I came upon this thought while
playing Wii Sports Tennis. Granted, it was and is still fun to play
along with all the other wii sports games. But it just then dawned upon
me: I have a tennis racquet in the garage, I play basketball regularly,
I can do all of these things already! Why do I need to simulate it.
Because of the fun gimmick of the Wii-mote, that was all overlooked.
All that was left was the fun in "playing" those sports and or games.

Just seems forced, that's all. Maybe some should accept the fact that motion
control gaming just defeats the purpose of video games. Did we forget
that videogames were originally meant for you to sit on your ass and
have some fun or blow off some steam in a way other than the
conventional playing a sport, working out, or boardgames.

The controller in my hand!!!!! That's satisfaction, sure the Wii-mote, and
the Dual Shock 3(PS3 although very limited) provide you with that, but
this Project Natal thing just doesn't sit well with me. Why simulate
these things, when I can attempt to do them in "real life". Just
thinking back at the games that successfully used the motion control
are ones that kept it short, simple and left to exactly what it is....a
gimmick. See: Super Paper Mario, and Little Big Planet.

Now, does this mean I am dooming it from the get-go? No. I will give it a
chance and try it out. After all, that should be in the heart of
every-gamer. The search for something new and innovative, fun and
immersive. But, looking into my crystal ball, I just do not see this
succeeding with those such the likes of ourselves. Those controller
throwing, twisting, button mashing, combo lovers that just want to sit
back on the couch, gamer rocker, floor, crate, whatever the hell and
frag, own, unlock achievements, earn trophies and save the world (or
condemn it) all with the press of a BUTTON!!!!

Unless its the machine from Minority Report...And even then, I'll still be skeptical.

I quite like motion controls myself, I wouldn't like to simulate doing a marathon, but when motion control is done right it's quite satisfying and I do think it's something you will have to get used to. It's an evolution in gaming.

I wouldn't like to have motion control as the be all and end all approach, I like sitting back and playing games on console the traditional way as well. But gaming as time goes on is going to change with the times, that's progress.

" I have a tennis racquet in the garage, I play basketball regularly,

As if motion controls were designed for you.
Most Americans have guns in their home, why would they wanna simulate it with COD4?

DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

"Why simulate
these things, when I can attempt to do them in "real life"
Do you have a gun? Shoot shoot shooooot away!!

Plenty of games make good use of motion controls.
It would be the same as saying Analog sticks are gimmicks because the D-pad was doing a good job. In contrast you are whining that some button presses are replaced by motion controls. If motion controls really are a just a gimmick, then explain the success of it.

Not yet anyways. Right now motion control is just a gimmic and not a very good one at that. As proof I hold up the shovelware from the wii. Most of those game have terrible controls and just go to show that most people have no concept for how it should truly work. Give it until next generation, if it is still around and enough people are really interested in it then it will really begin to shine and just be a way to differentiate from one console to the next.

I hope we never stop gaming with controllers/key-board mouse. The day we venture into thought-controlled gaming or virtual reality or something is the day gaming is not fun anymoore.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit12d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing12d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9212d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
