Sony has been consistent making their consoles 8 - 10 times more powerful than the last, which makes this the easiest. But making a console that much more powerful will cost a lot of money, but unlike Microsoft and Nintendo, I don't expect the PS4 to launch in 2011 - 2012, but rather 2013 - 2014 which will drop production cost.
So without further ado let's move on to the final console.
CPU: The Cell processor is a powerful CPU, and both Sony, IBM, and Toshiba put a lot of time, and more importantly, money into and I don't see Sony letting that go to waste on just the PS3. The Cell is being used to run laptops, 3D glasses-less TV's, supercomputers, and more, so the rumors of Sony using some super Cell may hold more truth to them. A Cell processor with 4PPE's and 32 SPE's as rumored to be in development by IBM, by www.ps4forums.org is true then the PS4 will have one hack of a CPU running it.
Price: Outrageous. 4 Cell Processors combined into one would be a dream come true for processing, but a nightmare to our pockets. But according to www.theinquirer.net it costs $150 to produce 1 cell processor back in 2007, so by 2013 we can realistically expect the price to be closer to $60 - $75. Still that means the Processor for the PS4 should be around $250 - $300 to make (PS3 launch price all over again).
This makes me think a 2PPE 16 SPE model will be used instead, if they stick with Cell (developers have come to terms with the Cell, but will they want to stick with it).
Price: $120 - $150
GPU: Sony is unpredictable when it comes to GPU's. But if it's to be 8x as powerful it might be another pricy component. A 2GB GPU, which now cost around $200 should be $150 in 2013.
Price: $150
RAM: 8x would mean 4GB DDR3.
Price: $40 by 2013
Storage: Sony likes moving on to the next medium, but with the price for the PS4 this high already they're going to stick with Blu Ray, just a better version.
Price: $60
HDD: The PS3 has been somewhat notorious for installs so a 500GB HDD should suffice.
Price: $50
Everything Else: The same deal as MS, except Sony has style down to the T.
Price: $100
Overall: If the PS4 is going to be an upgrade similar to the jump with all other PS devices then it's going to be expensive (just like the PS3 was but not as much). It's going to be a technical beast, and for anyone who wants a console pumping out amazing graphics then the PS4 is it. However, there's still a strong possibility that the PS4 will be similar to what I think MS is going to do with the Xbox 720.
CPU: Modified Cell Processor featuring 2PPE's and 16SPE's
GPU: Custom NVIDIA 2GB GPU
RAM: 4GB of DDR3 1333 RAM
HDD: 500GB HDD @ 7200
Rest:1080p, 3D display, 7.1 Dolby, etc...
$120 + $150 + $40 + $60 + $50 + $100= $520
20% off
$416
It's possible the PS4 will cost only $400, but they'll be selling the console at a loss again which is not what they want. $500 with all that tech is very much worth it, but it's the PS3 all over again. They're going to have to bite the bullet and take that loss so they can stay competitive. $400 for the PS4.

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
It's hard trying to find anything with gameplay for these specs. since there really isn't any game pushing for this kind of hardware. So enjoy some cut scenes. Look at the scale, facial animations, lighting and more to see what could be done if Sony use these specs. for the PS4.

Here's a like of a 2GB GPU running current games. It's running graphically impressive game like Batman Arkham Asylum, Resident Evil 5, and more at sppeds of over 100 frames per second. So just think about what that can do.

the HDD will probably be 1 TB and will be around $80 for 2013...
they wont stay on Blu Ray they have almost maxed it already i think theyll stick with that new one that they are developin that can hold around 1 TB, the price will probably be $549
as long it play crysis full spec i will be happy
For one, the RSX and Xenons where the top notch GPU's at the time of their release.
Nvidia claimed that RSX (at the time of PS3 release) would be their most powerfull GPU at the time.
It' wasn't, but that was because Sonye delayed console's release (due to some blue ray diodes). Still, RSX was top notch GPU at the time.
Now, with that in mind, we can expect similar situation for PS4/Xbox3.
So I would say that if 2GB GPU is mainstream in '11, and 4GB GPU could be in upper middle class GPU by the end of '12, there is (IMO) a 50-50 chance of PS3 GPU ending up with 4GB VRAM.
And let's not forget that all the other specs would go up (memory speed, bandwith, etc).
@sdtarm
Yeah that's what I meant. They're developing Blu Ray disc that can store 100GB, 200GB, 500GB, and 1TB. So there's no need for them to switch from Blu Ray.
