2010 Quick Review

2010 has a ton of games coming out, and this week graced us with two very good hack and slash titles.  Some of us are blessed to have the ability to tell if they'll like a game by looking at trailers and gameplay videos, while some of you aren't as keen.  So without further ado here's a quick Pre Review of the games coming out in early 2010.

Darksiders - 8.5

Bayonetta - 8.9 (Great action, WTF story)

Army of Two: The 40th day - 8.4 (A nice improvement, but still not there yet)

Dark Void - 8.3 (Gameplay videos look so boring to me, but demo's coming this week so we'll see)

No More Heroes 2 - 8.8 (The first had problems, getting rid of them up's it's score)

Mass Effect 2 - 9.3 (Combat and loading were the weak spots of the first)

M.A.G. - 8.2 (Soulless and made more for squads than anyone to pick up and play)

Gran Turismo 5 - 9.4 (With the newly announced features GT5 is on it's way to the top)

White Knight Chronicles: IE - 8.3 (not well reviewed in Japan?????)

Bioshock 2 - 9.0 (I enjoyed the first game, and the 2nd should be as enjoyable)

Dante's Inferno - 8.3 (A decent Rip off, but the innovation police better kick in come review time)

Aliens vs. Predator - 8.3 (Gameplay videos look mediocre hopefully it has a Left 4 Dead like online mode)

Splinter Cell Conviction - 9.1 (The game looks good)

Lost Planet 2 - 8.8 (4 player co-op will boost the review score up)

Heavy Rain - ?.? (I see mixed reviews for this game, but more positive than mediocre reviews.)

ModNation Racers - 9.0 (Little Big Kart)

Dead to Rights: Retribution - 8.1 (Looks a lot better than the older games, but still not there)

Final Fantasy 13 - 9.1

Pokemon HG/SS - 8.9

Just Cause 2 - 8.6 (Buy if you like, Mercs. 2, Red Faction, etc...)

Red Steel 2 - 8.7 (Looks like a huge improvment over the original, art style switch is fine, but enemies look stupid)

God of War 3 - 9.4 (The demo was easily a 9.1/10 the whole game may be my GOTY)

Red Dead Redemption - 8.9 (GTA Western, hopefully it sells better this time)

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker - 9.1 (The successor to MGS4 has to be good PSP GOTY)

Nier - 7.8 (gameplay looks mediocre)

Split Second - 8.7 (Burnout meets Stuntman = :)

Splatterhouse - 8.6 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuKm8s0SLZw)

Singularity - 8.7 (This year's Bioshock just not as good)

Alpha Protocol - 8.9 (Mass Effect meets Splinter Cell)

Mafia 2 - 8.8 (The Godfather the good version)

Max Payne 3 - 8.8 (Hopefully they do a good job with this)

Last Guardian - 9.1 (If anything like it predecessors it has to be good)

Dead Rising 2 - 8.7 (More of everything that made the first game good)

The Agency - 8.8 (Looks like a really good console MMO)

Alan Wake - ?.? (Atmosphere, but will the gameplay and story match?????)

Brink - 9.0 (Killzone 2 meets Team Fortress 2 meets Mirror's Edge)

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 9.1 (A harder version of the original with new stages)

Metroid: Other M - 9.1 (This game looks sick hopefully Nintendo will hook up with more 3rd parties to make game like this)

So there you have it a quick review of 2010 of games that actually have demos, gameplay footage, or trailers that show gameplay.  Check back later and see how right or wrong I was.

You know Bayonetta has received a s***load more praise than that, and according to many sources the story gets a lot clearer as you progress.

The Last Guardian is a sequel (if only a spiritual one) to one of the most critically acclaimed titles of all times and I don't think a 9.1 is a correct assessment plainly based of the credibility of the developer and what we have heard so far.

Alan Wake will get high reviews across the board because I don't see Remedy making a bad game and I don't see MS backing one.

Red Dead Redemption looks to be what GTA IV should have been in terms of things to do in an open world so I see this getting very high reviews.

I do think GoW III will be 0.1-0.2 higher as well, because from the people who have played more than the demo I have heard nothing but jaws dropping.

ModNationRacers I see getting somewhere between 8.5-9.0 and averaging on meta with about 8.7.

But aside from that your predictions look pretty sound.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing44d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit44d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing44d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9244d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
