Things We want in the next generation

1- Free Online Gaming On All Consoles:

Online gaming is a very important feature of now a days games, it's also a huge game and console seller, which means the manufacturer will gain more money from selling more devices just because there are couple of kick-ass online games, so why charge for it? especially if your competitors provide the same quality of service for free.

2- More Famous Actors/Musicians:

This current generation witnessed the presence of few famous stars But my personal favourite was " Danny Trejo " the guy is just amazing, There was also a rumour that Eminem would be the lead in GTA 5 but i guess that turned out not to be true. Believe it or not people will actually buy a game they don't like so much because there is a famous star in it,not only actors but they could actually bring some famous musicians for soundtracks , imagine if you play GTA and the voice of Jay Z in the car radio or the game menus. It will be huge seller and would make some games more popular, and it will be worth it.

3-Upgradable Consoles:

If home consoles industry remains as it is it will always be few steps behind PC,right now as i write these words PC gaming has officially put both feet into the next-gen. era while current consoles started to age, it's not fare that PC gamers can enjoy more futuristic pretty version of "Battlefield 3" regarding graphics and online players capacity than consoles gamers not to mention Crysis 2. Manufacturers can come up with some practical way to make consoles upgradable after like 3 years of release date to make it last another 3 years in order to raise the actual life cycle, make all versions of consoles and PC equal and exactly the same and of course they can gain more money. SONY announced earlier they are aiming to give the Playstation 3 a 10 years life cycle, it's been only 5 and it's already getting old comparing to PC.

4-Consoles shipped with standard accessories:

Nintendo started that by shipping with a stand, Microsoft followed by shipping certain models with a headset,SONY did nothing, both aren't even shipping with an HDMI cable which is highly recommended for playing games on both consoles, instead they are shipping with the useless composite cable. We need to see consoles shipped with more accessories which in fact a very important tools for the user and not just extras such as the HDMI cable - Headset - chargeable battery ( if both Microsoft & Nintendo will continue to use battery based controllers ) and it would be nice if all companies shipped their consoles with a stand and one extra controller, they would still gain more money of selling those same accessories in the future and will gain users respect.

5-Disc Changer:

It might cost more money and makes a console bigger and heavier but it's actually a very nice feature to have, in current consoles you can turn them on or off while you are setting comfortably on you couch, but what if you want to change the game ?! and don't tell me they could just solve that by converting to digital download games because that's not going to replace physical discs any time soon.

well written, but...

3. you will never get an upgradable console. The simple reason is consoles succeed because they all have the same parts and structure. Thus they are very easy to program for, becuase everything is a known quantity. If they are upgradable, developers would have to take the time to program in many other factors, and that just wouldn't be worth it.

and 5. the physical disc medium will likely be extinct here soon. physical copies of games are going the way of the dinosaur, and digital downloads will be the way things are. adding a useless disc changer would drive up cost, and would be pointless.

past that I would love to have all the accessories come with the console, and free online connectivity.

I doubt that discs will be gone in the medium term. Basically the end of physical distribution requires, competent broadband standards throughout all markets the consoles will be sold in to make it viable to go wholly online. A whole game, particularly if we're talking a step up in the next gen, is likely to be any number of gig, even when compressed for download.

I don't think publishers/manufacturers and developers would be willing cut off market segments to rid themselves of discs.

Digital distribution will eventually become the way of the future, but I think broadband internet needs to develop further in all markets to make it the only distribution option available.

Well, regarding upgrading consoles it's up to the manufacturers to come up wit ha practical way to do it, like after 3 years you can just buy small piece to hook it up in your device and that's it, and games after that can be played on both upgraded and original consoles. or something like that.

Anyway, glad you liked it..

I remember the N64 had that expansion pack, That was kinda an upgrade was it not?

Also my PS3 came with a HDMI cable, and so did all my friends. has it changed now?

Ares845376d ago

A PS3 does not come with an HDMI cable. That is sold separately unless you buy a bundle from places like Best Buy or amazon. They sometimes have these special offers and they pack an HDMI cable, extra controller and a game or two to the package. But it is still packaged separately from the console itself.

pumpactionpimp5376d ago

The n64 had a ram upgrade. I was dumb enough to buy it and I'm here to tell you, it made very little, to no difference whatsoever. I believe it was more of a ploy to make money than anything.

Bonobo123455375d ago

You needed it to play donkey kong and Majoras mask!!

Bladesfist5376d ago

All of these features can be found on a PC.

JellyJelly5376d ago

Except for most of the games.

HAF9125376d ago

Nope, in fact console is missing 3 entire genres of gaming:

RTS, MMORPG, and MOBAs.

If you want variety, go pc.

Embusque5375d ago (Edited 5375d ago )

Well, actually, there's a console WoW in the works, and C&C came out on consoles, so there's definitely MMORPG's and RTS's. MAG on PS3 is not an RPG MMO, but it's an MMO. I still agree that console games are usually just dumbed-down PC games though.

BeastlyRig5375d ago (Edited 5375d ago )

Most? like what games? Lat time I checked 95% of games are on pc! Plus pc games that are not on console..! Add LA Noire to the list of pc games..

JellyJelly5375d ago

@BeastlyRig

Uncharted 1,2,3
Gears of War 2,3
LittleBigPlanet 1,2
Gran Turismo (all)
Forza Motorsport (all)
Alan Wake
Metal Gear Solid
Halo Reach
Infamous 1,2
Super Mario Bros/Galaxy (all)
Zelda (all)
Killzone 1,2,3
Resistance 1,2,3
Dark Souls
The Last Guardian
Twisted Metal

I could go on forever. Sure, PC has a good library of RTS, FPS, MMOs and WRPG's, but to say it offers the biggest library and variety of games is a lie.

HAF9125375d ago (Edited 5375d ago )

You are naming games from same categories and calling it variety.

PCs have exclusives too, (arma, stalker series, metro 2033, etc)... but then they also have games that will never work on consoles... (which are also exclusives btw);

DOTA, HON, LoL, WoW, EVE Online, Starcraft, Warcraft, Homeworld, Shogun, etc....

My point is if you want a shooter, a tps, a racing game, an rpg... you can play it on either a console or a pc.

But you cant play RTS, MOBAs, MMORPGs on a console.

And console owners then ask why devs always give them the same rehashed games. Well lets see. Racing and fighting games are not as popular as they used to be. And with the limitation of a controller, they simply cant bring you new experiences.

So you are stuck with getting recycled FPS every year.

I don't agree with upgradable consoles. The point of them is to be the same and easy to use.
May aswell buy a PC if you want an upgradable gaming machine.

Super Meat Boy 3D review - ChristCenteredGamer

CCXXG writes - "Overall, Super Meat Boy 3D is an impressive 3D platformer with great visuals, solid gameplay, and fun sound design all accentuating its love for its bloody aesthetic, let down by some input issues and a middling soundtrack. If you were a fan of the original, interested in the series, or just love platformers, I can highly recommend this game."
