Fighting Games Can Learn From Mortal Kombat

The latest Mortal Kombat was released last year and the game was nothing short of amazing. Mortal Kombat had really fallen on dark times before this semi-reboot. Other fighting games such as Marvel vs. Capcom could learn from MK’s success. MK has an interesting single player game, more content, and other ideas which might reach people outside their target audience.

I agree, mortal kombat just brought so much to the table. The online was... jittery, to put it kindly, but the game itself made me not enjoy other fighting games as much, because of how good it was.

Lucretia5138d ago

maybe when they learn how to animate their fighters it will be better, its far too stiff.

i mean, im not exxagerating when i say this, and its fact, Youtube it if you must.

Dead or alive 1 on the ps1 has far better animations than MK9.

also it just doesnt feel that fun, nor is it in depth. Entertaining to see the fatalities tho, but youtube is great for that.

I will say though that MK comes with alot alot alot of content which is awesome. Blazblue does far better job at that though i have to say, Amazing fighting system, varied character fighting styles, no copy and pasted attacks from other characters (why does every1 in MK punch and kick the same?)

and Blazblues story is insane aswell as the game having a ton of content.

Kalowest5138d ago

Both BB and MK are both great fighting games, with surprisingly deep story-lines.
"no copy and pasted attacks from other characters"
I understand why fighting games like MK and SF do that; it provides a good foundation, for getting to know the characters old&new(than work on advance moves), also for quick pick-up and play(being accessible)

OneAboveAll5132d ago

^^ Wrong. The fighting animations are top notch. MK is not supposed to be a frame by frame fighting game such as SF/MVC.

You can't come off and say something is fact based off of your opinion and the opinion of others who have YouTube videos complaining they don't like it.

GuruStarr785138d ago

agreed... poorly written story, but agreed....

Frankfurt5138d ago

Poorly written compared to books? Yeah. Movies? Maybe. Compared to other fighting games (and action games in general)? Nope, it was great - best story mode in any fighter, by a mile. Made garbage like the BlazBlue's story mode look like the trash it is.

In fact, it was better than a lot of martial aerts movies, too.

Lucretia5138d ago

WTF? did u just say blazblues story sucked?

u must only be entertained by blood or just didnt even beat the story in blazblue. it is the best story hands down in a fighting game, not to mention branching paths and multiple endings per character.

how the hell is BB's story bad?

MK's story line doesnt even make sense, if it did then most of the cast would be dead and not appear in sequels since everyone dies in everyones stories. how many times did lui kang die? and raiden? and goro? and johnn...yeah u get the point

without a doubt mk9 is the best fighter this gen.and i literally play ALL fighters (besides soul caliber, to noobish for my taste).

Kalowest5138d ago (Edited 5138d ago )

He should play the Blazblue series.
It has cool modes, a very interesting story, and weird/cool/ funny ass characters.
It's one of the best fighting game series this gen.

I played BlazBlue I didnt really care for it.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde47d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

Mortal Kombat: Flawless Victory Announced

A new book detailing the artwork of the franchise has been announced

robtion313d ago

Let me fix this title to something less click baity for you:

New Book: Mortal Kombat: Flawless Victory Announced.

Garethvk313d ago (Edited 313d ago )

The description clearly says what it is. It is not like people have to click to the site. They just have to read.

robtion313d ago

Sure they don't have to go to the site but to get to the description they already have to have clicked on it. Thus the term 'click bait'.

Rebel_Scum312d ago (Edited 312d ago )

If its a book say its a book in the article title. Everyone’s gonna think this is a new game and get annoyed reading your description.

Garethvk312d ago (Edited 312d ago )

The Mods had no issues with the title.
The first line under the image says new book and you can see it in the preview windows without even having to click to read the description.

It also says a Visual History on the image.

Rebel_Scum312d ago

On desktop and mobile the text a visual history is not visible in the thumbnail on the homepage.

I grew up on this stuff. Adding it to the art collection!

I do hope the next MK iteration goes back to the core of what made these characters appeal in the first place. A few of them lost their edge - I think I've had enough with some of the auntie designs 😂
