Grand Theft Auto 5′s Release “Date” Leaked by Amazon

Sufyan at vGSaints writes:

Yep, Grand Theft Auto 5′s release date has been leaked by Amazon. It had to happen, and now was the time. Amazon UK recently updated the release “date” on the console version of the game. It’s not the exact date, but here: it’s this year.

Apparently the game is due for release this December. I'm doubting they accidentally put it up, so it’s possible that RockStar Games will be giving more information about the anticipated title.

In case Amazon removes the date, here’s a screenshot.

It's either oct/nov or spring 2013. My opinion.

brodychet4997d ago

Early 2013. That's what it'll be.

redDevil874997d ago

Bioshock Infinite has been delayed till February, so i don't think it may be early 2013.

redDevil874997d ago (Edited 4997d ago )

Ohhhhh DP

*That's what she said*

JhawkFootball064997d ago

I doubt Rockstar has been telling retailers a release date without publicly announcing it. There's just no point.

gatormatt804997d ago

This is just a placeholder. Move on guys nothing to see here, just another site looking for hits.

archemides5184997d ago (Edited 4997d ago )

this is a placeholder, but some retailers DO actually get told release dates before they're publicly announced (especially amazon), and even before the get "early announcement for retailers" memos, for lots of different types of items. and sometime through leaks or glitches, the dates do get out. but this is not one of those cases.

PinkPartyPony4997d ago

Too soon.

Mid-Late 2013, Early 2014.

morganfell4997d ago

Games listed for December are released the following year. It's called a placeholder date.

This no name website vgsaints just insulted 2K and Rockstar. They apparently feel those two entities are stupid enough to release a major game in December.

Has anyone ever wondered why December isn't filled with major game debuts? Because December is past the prime cash retail month and too many people (enough to affect sales) will have already committed funds.

There are deluded people that will say that even if GTA V released in December it would still sell millions. Thanks for being shortsighted. It would sell but not close to what it would pull in on a better situated date.

i believe its coming out in 2012 because they delayed bioshock. Look i was the biggest believer that GTA 5 was in april-may 2013 but now i believe we will see it in 2012

FIZZYVIMTO4997d ago

Don't most big stores put up a placeholder date just to gain interest and pre orders

Valenka4997d ago

Game stores always put up placeholder dates. This is no exception.

josh143994997d ago

This means nothing. I used to work at blockbuster uk and they used to have placeholder dates. It could be released then but don't get you hopes up.

YodaCracker4997d ago

I'd love to believe it, but big titles almost never seem to release in December. They usually release in November to take advantage of the Black Friday shopping season.

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty6h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan9h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher6h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty6h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies1233m ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

LucasRuinedChildhood1d 14h ago

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar1d 7h ago (Edited 1d 7h ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher1d 4h ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

It’s funny to watch the only games EU and USA agree on was Minecraft and back ops 7 both regions on 6 and 7 spot respectively other than that FIFA rules EU

gold_drake1d 5h ago

yeh, football is really popular here in europe ha

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.

I’ve never played Fortnite GTAV or CoD BO7 but I do own GTAV for PS4/5 because I got them cheap.

gold_drake9d ago

i think we should either take those games out, or make a singleplayer list too ha

badboyz099d ago

I still play gta V alot. The others nah.

Popsicle9d ago

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Tacoboto9d ago

What exactly are we not getting?

Did we not just have a 2025 filled with nice games like...

Silksong, Doom TDA, Expedition 33, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ghost of Yotei, Dispatch, Split Fiction, Hades 2, DK Bananza, and so many more?

Popsicle9d ago

Agree that all you just posted are great games. Expedition 33 is one of my favorites. Spent a large chunk of time on BG3 in 2023. Another for my all-time list.

My point though not well articulated in the OG post is that we would get more of the games of the quality you mentioned if so many valuable resources were not allocated to FTP slop and/or heavy monetization schemes. Some of what used to be my favorite franchises have been ruined by them.

To sum it up, I would like to see games like 33 outperform the profits made by games like Fortnite so more resources are allocated to great games. When heavily monetized FTP games are at the top of the list, we end up being stuck with a significant chunk of games that are not good. Or worst case scenario games that spend years in development, but get cancelled due to industry trend chasing.

cloganart9d ago

Such a pessimistic view. This year gave so many good games.

Christopher9d ago

Popsicle, I actually think we're getting more great games because of the slop. Developers are seeing that people aren't happy and taking advantage of big AAA studios not delivering for people.

Popsicle9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Perhaps, and I hope you’re right. A shift is needed IMO
