David Cage, Greatest Game Designer Ever

He’s only ever designed and directed a trio of games since founding Quantic Dream, but David Cage is still the greatest mind the video game industry has seen as far as I’m concerned. Yes, I’m putting him in precisely the same league of greats like Shigeru Miyamoto, Ralph Baer and others of the same stature.

I wouldnt call any game designer the greatest one ever since all of them pretty much do their own thing and are great in different ways.

But Heavy Rain definitely made David Cage one of my favorites

ABizzel15125d ago

Greatest, no. Most Daring, highly likely.

NeoBasch5125d ago (Edited 5125d ago )

Oh, so someone's opinion is wrong? I'm sorry, I didn't know we're all drones and shared the same thoughts. I guess I should reconnect with the hive mind now. /s

Back on topic, he's one of my favorites. Don't know about being THE best. I like Fumito Ueda, Ken Levine, and Katsura Hashino a lot too. Oh yeah, and Shinji Mikami. Of course, Casey Hudson is a recent favorite of mine. Amy Hennig is an excellent writer whom I wish had more control of the actual game design as well.

Also, that reminds me, of the three, the only one I haven't played is Omikron. I should really remedy that this summer.

Lastly, I'd love to see more true auteurs in the gaming industry. One's that can translate their vision to screen as an artist would a painting. Fumito Ueda and David Cage are two of the first that come to mind. They handled both lead roles (game design/direction and writing). I'd love to see more.

He is freaking amazing. His games are just... Masterpieces, can't wait to see what he comes up with next! Sony is definitely lucky to have him developing for Playstation.

DigitalRaptor5125d ago

I disagree. But I still love his games.

units5125d ago

If your standards are low

Neckbear5125d ago

At least that's a game.

NeoBasch5125d ago

You know, the only reason you're getting disagrees is because of the implication that Heavy Rain is not a game in your statement. I'm sure everyone who disagrees with you acknowledges MW3 as a game.

Just goes to show how much of a bigot you're being. I hate using that word personally, but it's the only word I could think of to describe you.

smashcrashbash5125d ago

Not the greatest. ONE of the greats. Heavy Rain really left an impact on me even with a few minor plot holes. His story telling was better then most of the crap many developers have the nerve to call game plots and stories. His 'Kara' demo made me care about and be concerned about her life in few short minutes. That is powerful story telling to make you care about a character you never saw before in such a short time. People who try to underplay QD's talent are idiots.

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5828d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905828d ago (Edited 5828d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5828d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Another exclusive damnn the ps3 keeps on rollin wit games awesome ;)

Jack-Pyro5828d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495828d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5828d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5828d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
