Look at the motion blur around the white lines...someone either doesn't keep still when taking pictures or they have a really bad camera with no auto focusing. Yeah, Resistance does it but it's only for the friends list...no other options. Plus ther isn't a background it always a black background. I don't know any other game that does it like this, this is definitely new. This pic clearly shows the game running and the option to "quit game" along with assigning controller ports, turning of controller, music option and video option. Currently when you push the Home button...it doesn't look like this. This doesn't appear to be fake, but at the same time doesn't mean it's coming anytime soon.

Shame. I desperately want full in-game XMB to play tunes and message folk whilst in a game. And maybe go online too. This development would give the PS3 an advantage on every front compared to Microsoft's baby.

That's a crappy pic, so I'm not trusting it even though it does look awesome. I was fooled once by IGN years ago with MVC3, I'll never be fooled ever again without proof.

it looks pretty authentic, thats why I sent it for approval, IDK though, you didnt really get In-game music in resistance.

Maybe the reason why some things are missing from the XMB is because sony will limit the things you can access when in game.

In Game XMB Sooner Than We Think?

Wouldnt they need to travel back in time about 7 months to achieve that? I mean come on we thought we were getting ingame xmb with 2.0 along with home! I'll believe it when it happens. I'm not getting on these hype trains anymore.

It does look real, I mean, Resistance previously only had access to a Friend's List from a certain screen, but it's too blurry to be proof.

Hopefully though.

I think I'm the only PS3 owner who doesn't care about in game XMB. It would be nice to have my own music to listen to, but I don't need it.

Does anyone else get random messages from unknown people who ask to be added to your friends list? It seems like people just randomly invite every single person they see in a game JUST to make their friends list bigger. I think people have misunderstood the meaning of the word friend. If I don't know you, I don't want to hear from you.

Why I think this is real: This is the exact same ingame XMB menu they showed before the PS3 came out (Yes, Sony lied to us, the PS3 was supposed to have it before it launched)

What I really think: What you see in this picture is nice, and really authentic looking because they even went as far as to copy what the XMB in-game looked like, and they even put nice little touches like the controller option and the game title name, this is not coming soon. It's better to keep expectations low, and if something comes out, we can cheer and clap, if nothing comes, at least we can laugh it off and wait for an official announcement.

Edit: Now that I think of it, there may be a small chance that if this is legit, it may be a picture of the in-game XMB beta that's in testing right now, read 2 posts down for my response to WilliamRBaker's comment for more information.

IN GAME XMB has been on the top of every ones wish list since before launch, and sony has been working on it since before launch, An INGAME XMB will require an entire OS rewrite you can disagree but this is a simple fact.

The 360 ingame stuff was built from the ground up into the OS it self the OS was designed around this, the ps3 was not you cant just put out an firmware update thats small and expect an seemlessly working ingame XMB its just common sense no need for techno babble...ect its common sense.

End of 2008 maybe, but im betting on early 2009 or mid 2009 for this.

The fact that an ingame XMB will either take up more or a lil less ram, and will either not be backwards compat, they will have to rewrite alot of code to make those games released in the past work with this, Devs will have to rework their whole attitude towards the OS if this is the case...and that speaks BIG update which in turn speaks OS REWRITE.

looks real to me. someone said that u cant see the psn icon though so it could be fake. but it just shows the game options, friends, and the edge of photos... but i bet thats just cuz u cant access the psn (store, account management) or the internet browser because ur in a game thats probably using the internet. i believe it, but i dont know to expect it at the end of this month.

Very hard to tell since photoshop does wonders these days. I'm not getting my hopes up but if it did come at the end of the month Sony will be on track to having a good year.

sony shouldn't of done XMB in game like this, it should of been a different variation of the main menu much like the difference between the xbox dashboard and guide

This looks like music settings and message settings while running Resistance... It could be fake but Resistance is not able to do that.

Because if you look at Call of Duty 4, theres no messaging or friends invites. That was all supposed to be done with the in-game XMB.

It does allow you to see who is online or not, so I suspect Sony was just getting the final kinks out, possibly with in game music. this looks promising though

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

So now there's certifiable proof that Ryan was in fact "fired", as opposed to when it was first announced that he "retired", in order to save face.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
