Dead Space 3 Allegedly Features Co-op

Major gameplay and weapon changes to come as well?

Dead Space 3 will have drop-in, drop-out co-op, according to an IGN source's report. Isaac Clarke will, if players choose, fight alongside a man with a gnarly scar on his face, an engineering RIG of his own, and glowing red eyes peering from his helmet. During single-player, this character acts as Isaac’s guide. Sounds like he’ll need one: IGN’s source detailed a desolate snow planet that sounds an awful lot like the rumored Tau Volantis, with events happening around an unidentified facility.

Co-Op that won't effect the single player mode? Hell yeah!

I'll take co-op over PVP any day anyway!

sinncross5001d ago

As long as I can play the game solo that is all that matters. Then hook up with a friend and just enjoy the game on a pure action basis.

guitarded775001d ago

I'm a co-op whore, but I want the story to be a single player experience. The thing that makes Dead Space great is the sense of isolation... it breeds fear. A co-op hoard mode would be fun though and wouldn't affect the single player experience. EA can save the co-op campaign for Army of Four or whatever it's gonna be called.

da_2pacalypse5001d ago

As much as I love co-op, i'm not sure this is the game that necessarily needs it, but maybe that's just me.

Army_of_Darkness5001d ago

That's why RE5 wasn't scary at all, Not even a freakin' jump scare?!

sinncross5001d ago

The thing is that I dont feel it is just the co-op that made RE5 non scary... because I think co-op can definitely work.

the problem with current survival horrors is the protagonist themselves. Take RE5... Chris looks like hes packing steroids... to the point where he punches a boulder... and you can pick up some heavy fire power. The very character you play as feels like a machine. Its different to the older games or something like the original Silent Hills where your character was just some ordinary guy in which almost anything can constitute as dangerous.

I don't think developers realise how important the character you play as is to the importance of creating a survival horror atmosphere.

That's awesome that you can share the horror experience with another person.

user54670075001d ago

What horror would you be sharing though, if your with a friend it wouldnt even be scary. You'd be chatting away to him, backing each other up...hardly scary.

OdinX5001d ago

I wouldn't say that Dead Space was ever pure horror, but more of a thriller, and I believe if done right, they can still produce similar results with a more than one player. An easy way to do this is have a lot more enemies on screen at once, small passage ways, and tougher enemies in general. It can be done, it's just something that takes thinking on the devs part, but I welcome co-op in any form it may come in DS.

Lord_Sloth5001d ago

@ MikeCosgrove
That's okay. I've never found any movie or game scary so I'm playing my game for the fun factor and the enjoyable storyline, not the "fear factor" or anything.

Atleast if we really want a scare we can play solo. Unlike RE5, where solo wasnt even scary at all. Co op would be awesome in this!

FarCryLover1825001d ago (Edited 5001d ago )

Sounds good to me. I wish Dead Space 2 would have had a co-op survival mode instead of the multiplayer that it had. Kudos to those who liked it, but it just wasn't my cup of tea and it felt forced. I played it a handful of times and just didn't want to come back for more. A "horde" mode on the other hand would be a fun multiplayer component to compliment the spectacular single player experience.

I also feel like EA are going to target a Q1 2013 release for this. Can't wait to see DS3 stuff at E3!

user54670075001d ago

Optional or not....co-op doesn't belong in a horror game

Jeez....did they not see the kafuffle that went on with RE5

I wouldn't mind if someome like Ellie was with you but only if you spilt up alot and could play her in a few chapters...maybe without armor like issac she could be more vulnerable, giving her levels more of a challenge

FarCryLover1825001d ago

But the co-op member won't be with you if you are playing alone. In the case of RE5, Sheva was always with you and was annoying as can be. I agree with what you say about being vulnerable and whatnot and that co-op doesn't really belong in it in a sense, but at least this co-op isnt mandatory or will mess the game up. This sounds like it could be fun.

I believe it. There was a "leak" months ago that talked about him being on a frozen planet.

Why Dead Space 3 Will Be the Hardest to Remake

If EA and Motive Studio plan on remaking all the main Dead Space entries, they have to change a lot of what made Dead Space 3 so divisive.

Simple, do not bother with a Dead Space 3 remake. Rather have a new entry for Dead Space.

myfathersbastard1046d ago

Yeah I agree. Make a dead space 3, but have an original story/setting. They’ve proven they can do the game justice, and I think they could evolve 2 in a good direction, keeping a similar tone. I’d love s Dead Space 2 and 3 though. The remake was fantastic. Top tier remake, up there with RE2.

jznrpg1046d ago

Remaking 3 would need to be a reworked and somewhat changed remake as 3 was flawed in most peoples eyes and the worst entry.

Ninver1046d ago

It's the worst in the series.

Dead Space 3, A Ten Year Reunion

WTMG's Kyle Nicol:

"Was Dead Space 3 really that bad?

Well, it’s a complicated question. Dead Space 3 is undeniably the weakest of the trilogy. It’s a game that deviates so far from the original formula, that it throws a lot of what made Dead Space special in the first place out of the window. Although, where it does make up for it is one of the best cooperative shooters on the market, even after all this time. Do I recommend playing this game ten years later? Hell yes. But make sure your expectations are in the right place. It has a lot of problems that bring it down."
