XMNR: Epic Games is working on Unreal Engine 4, it's next-gen game engine for the PC and consoles. While many expect it to show up on the Playstation 4 and next Xbox, a statement from CEO Tim Sweeney in an interview released on Monday appears to imply that it won't be available for Nintendo's upcoming Wii U console.

The project will purportedly launch in November 2026 and is the result of Disney's $1.5 billion collaboration with Epic.

The Walt Disney Company's new CEO, Josh D'Amaro, is a big fan of video games, and one former Disney executive believes D'Amaro would be smart to do even more in gaming going forward. This could include a buyout of a gaming company like Epic Games.
In an interview with CNBC, Kevin Mayer--a former Disney and TikTok executive who now runs Candle Media--said D'Amaro will need to take "bold steps" to help Disney make more money and grow its stock price. One part of this could be doing more in gaming, he said.
Apparently nobody remembers the absolute shitshow that happened when EA brought the Havok engine which was used as the default engine of the 6th generation like UE is used today.
Well I can imagine DIsney with their transgender Snowwhite and black cinderally and mermaid and other garbage. Imagine video games lmao!!!
I really hope this doesn’t happen. They ruin everything that they buy. Terrible company
Trolling. Hope Disney take the Maval characters like Spider-Man and Wolverine away from Sony and make it themselves that would me laugh so hard.

The myth of perpetual growth continues to bulldoze through the industry.
"It is going to get so much worse in the video game industry...This will get worse and going to be bad and it's going to eventually get better." -Greg Miller right before it got worse
Too many games, too many versions, download only games, game pricing, £700+ consoles, eye watering prices for controllers, four formats, gaming is one big mess.
id argue that epic games has alot of other revenue income other than fortnite, so their reasoning makes zero sense.
Wonder if this one is because the Wii U isn't powerful enough for them, or it's because of Epic Games just being anti-Nintendo. Maybe a little bit of both? If that's the case, that's not good news for either companies.
After Wii, Nintendo has a lot of damage control. But if 3rd party devs don't try to fix things too, then gamers lose.
I think they are taking that statement abit too literal.
Intended and supported are two completely different things. UE4 might not be intended for the wiiu but it will support it. Just like how UE3 isn't intended for ios even though it supports it...
It's like they hate Wii u
I wonder who's going to try and spin this that Unreal Engine 4 isn't needed.
Anyways this sucks for Nintendo but i guess we all saw it coming, all i have to say is step your game up Nintendo!
