There will be no Half-Life 3 at E3 2012, as Gabe Newell says.

last of us
god of war
maybe gta 5
more sony exlucisive games
who needs HL3???

PhantomTommy5126d ago

I'd trade any of those for Half-Life 3.

kevnb5126d ago

I'll trade them all for half-life 3.

humbleopinion5126d ago (Edited 5126d ago )

I wanted to say the exact same but then noticed he has GTA V in there.
Sorry, but as much as I'm waiting to see how the HL story continues (especially after the E2 cliffhanger ending), it's Rockstar all the way for me - especially when talking about a new Grand Theft Auto game.

But seeing both E3/HL3 and GTA V in the same E3 conference? That would be too good to be true. Don't think the conference can handle so much awesomeness.

ForeverGamer5126d ago (Edited 5126d ago )

they suck ???
did you play them ??
can i have your time machine ???
and since when rockstar ,ND and SM made a bad game ???

Patriots_Pride5126d ago

People are still holding on to HL3? I gave up long time ago and I am ejoying games like Uncharted and Gears.

I can see Gabe running to the bathroom with a pan of butter and getting off every time he see's news like this.

ATi_Elite5126d ago (Edited 5126d ago )

1. Of course no HL3 at E3 because Valve is working on HALF LIFE 2 EPISODE 3!!!!

I don't understand why people keep saying HL3 when GABE NEWELL has said HL2 Episode 3!!!

2. Who needs HL3??............The Entire Gaming Industry!!!!!!!!!

Half Life 1 and Half Life 2 have both revolutionized the FPS market and both were the Gold Standard for FPS and games in general.

3. No info on HL2 ep3 until AFTER DotA2 and Counter Strike:GO are released according to GABE NEWELL!

Some People just DO NOT pay attention!

Patriots_Pride5126d ago (Edited 5126d ago )

I think he was being sarcastic.

I love Half Life but I dont respect any company that makes me wait this long for a game, even a hint or a screen shot of the Gman would make me happy.

DeadlyFire5126d ago

Must have patience with young minds Elite. :P

I personally believe they are taunting us. Trying to make us believe that the 3 in their mind at E3 will be L4D 3, or something else.

Ep 3. Could be on a new engine and release could be on a scale compared to HL 1/2. Either way Valve always make sure they get it all right when they launch a game. So they are taking their time.

'Instead, the producers want to use the E3 2012 to present already announced games including Counter-Strike and DotA second global campaign'

How disappointing....so not only is there no HL3 announcement, but apparently no new titles or IP's.

hennessey865126d ago

Half life 3 will be.................who knows, it could be a giant let down. I hope not half life 2 is still in my top 3 FPS games.

Braid5126d ago

Well, they've gone multiplat so the third game may not be as revolutionary as we want it to be in terms of graphics. I'd want it to be a PC exclusive honestly, and I could happily upgrade my gaming rig if they provide a giant leap just as they did with HL2 in the graphics department.

kevnb5126d ago (Edited 5126d ago )

its not really the graphics themselves that would make a PC exclusive better. Its the more wide open design, better physics, better control, mods, etc...
but I'm sure valve can pull off something epic even with console handcuffs. they will probably give the PC version extra love too.

TheEatingOrange5119d ago

When did Valve let us down? Name one game of theirs that sucked

Perjoss5126d ago

I really like it when there is a good gap between a game and its sequels, but Valve have taken this a bit too far.

MetalNCarnet5126d ago

You think he's just going to come out and say HL3 is going to be at E3? LOL Just like how Jaffe said he wasn't working on a new Twisted Metal.

360GamerFG5126d ago

Twisted Metal turned out to be a giant turd online and a financial flop, lets never put it in the same sentence with Half Life

Valve only wants to make HalfLife if they push medium forward but what could it push forward next?

If Half-Life 3 ever happens, what big innovation would justify it in Gabe Newell's eyes?

-Foxtrot377d ago

Innovation doesn’t always have to be a VR game, look at one of the rumours for HL3 that someone was saying earlier last week

"Procedural generation (ie. L4D Director) and advanced AI will be pushed by HLX. "

"“The 'procedural generation' in HLX does not relate to terrain or roguelike-ish mechanics but something like the Left4Dead director made "significantly more powerful". Doors, physics props, enemies, enemy types items, NPCs of any kind will be influenced by said director"

That to me is pretty significant if it's done well, that along with better enemy AI, physics and the like are what games should be evolving more but they always choose graphics mostly. The fact that it keeps circling back to only VR is the way forward when it comes to Valve is silly in my opinion.

VR can be a choice but it shouldn't be "VR only because VR is the only innovation we have left"

Levii_92377d ago

No, and they already did that.

gold_drake376d ago

ew no

there are other ways im sure

Vits377d ago

Just go back to what made Half-Life 2 special: the physics.

At the time, it was groundbreaking and arguably influenced a wave of other games that started to experiment with more interactive and dynamic environments. For a while, physics-based gameplay became a trend. But if you've played any first-person shooters in the last decade, you've probably noticed that most developers have either abandoned those ideas entirely or significantly toned them down. The focus shifted away from immersive world interaction toward faster pacing, scripted set pieces, and visual spectacle.

And while you're at it, ship it with a robust modding tool. That’s another thing most developers have completely given up on. It could offer a much-needed alternative to the current AAA landscape, which feels increasingly trapped in a cycle of cinematic universes and safe, homogenized content. In a world of "Marvelized" blockbusters, a game that draws inspiration from the experimental spirit of the late 1990 and mid-2000s wouldn’t just be nostalgic,it would be genuinely fresh. Ironically, looking back might be the most forward-thinking move a studio could make right now.

Chocoburger376d ago

Here's something innovative, finish the God damn story. Wow, a concept! Locking a series behind forced innovation is stupid, and stupidity is not innovation.

ZycoFox376d ago

They can have the game be slightly less linear but not too open. HL2 had parts like that, then Episode 2 did it a bit more.

That and expand upon the physics & AI system and further increase the graphics over Alyx and that's pretty much all they gotta do. I hope they release a separate multiplayer part after if not immediately as well, like they did shortly after HL2 released.

Lamusiqa376d ago

1. Dynamic AI for NPC - Supporting character AI that responds to your voice in real-time. Imagine getting pinned down and then just say "Alyx, throw a smoke grenade and give me covering fire!" and then she does it after responding "OK!". How about having a conversation with Alyx?

2. FOV graphical render using NVMe SSD - A graphics rendering feature that is built-in the game engine so that your GPU and CPU only renders what player is seeing. Current graphics engine renders the world beyond the FOV because of hardware limitations in immediate rendering as you pan your camera/view. Having a graphics rendering system that renders graphics instantly and only what you're seeing allows for richer, more detailed worlds or less RAM usage.

Don't do this.

I've waited 100 years

_SilverHawk_380d ago

hopefully its a vr game or has the option to play in vr

TheColbertinator379d ago

The second option hopefully. I haven't played Alyx VR since the VR goggles hurt my eyes.

LordoftheCritics379d ago

Alyx VR was incredible.

Still unmatched

-Foxtrot379d ago

VR as an option - Totally fine.

VR Only - No thanks

I've been a Half Life fan since the original and have waited since 2007 for a sequel, it was already a kick to the nuts to have Half Life Alyx, a game which changes the ending of Episode 2 and will clearly be required to understand the story going forward in HL3, be a VR only title so I don't want a proper, full on sequel to be VR only aswell, it would be highly unfair to the HL fans who either don't like VR, can't afford it or can't do it for whatever reason.

Luckily going off the rumours, HL3 is a more traditional game.

FPS_D3TH379d ago (Edited 379d ago )

Sybau! Lol jk but please only the option. I’m still not buying vr today lol

Amplitude378d ago

It'll probably be VR exclusive with full body tracking sensors and a treadmill required to play

RaidenBlack379d ago

Now we know, why GTA VI got delayed.
Gabe Effect.
/s

ZycoFox379d ago

I wonder if the rumours are true - that it has a highly destructible environment and very reactive with hot/cold with realism placed on wind and other physics, I guess it makes sense, HL2 was very impressive at the time and it carried over into GMOD. That's what I really liked about it, everything built into the engine.

The only thing that might slightly disappoint me is if they don't upgrade the graphics more. I like that Source and Source 2 has such a clean look, I just hope they push it so it's more like Source 2.5 if they haven't budged it up to Source 3. Being (supposedly) the game to finish the original story I hope they go all out if they can while maintaining high frame rates with modern hardware.

badz149378d ago

Source 3? Bold of you to assume Gaben knows how to count to 3

PRIMORDUS379d ago

If this is true I'm going to guess it would be still using the Source 2 engine.

SimpleDad379d ago

I hope!!! Dude... let's go! Can't wait!

RaidenBlack379d ago

We haven't seen the best of Source 2, yet.
No really.
Checked some threads, many features are still WiP.

Plagasx379d ago

GTA 6 and Half Life 3 releasing in the same year?? IMPOSSIBLE.

FPS_D3TH379d ago

6 hours too soon bro. GTA delayed to next year

Profchaos379d ago

It just seems so impossible that after so many years and so many false leaks and rumours this might be it.

I don't know how to feel about this the game has so much weight on it in terms of expectations now half life alyx was amazing so I think they can do it but they would be feeling the pressure

Half-Life 3 Is A Call For More Series To End

If Half-Life ends with 3, it should be a call for more series to wrap it up.

Oh i agree.
Especially CoD and them annual sport titles 😎

PRIMORDUS412d ago (Edited 412d ago )

Me to I want HL 3 to be the last in the series, it will probably still use the Source 2 engine but I would guess heavily modified. Then you know Valve will release some kind of collectors edition that includes all the games, then years later more remasters 😂

goken412d ago (Edited 412d ago )

Me too. At the rate valve release games, if they did HL4, it would be something like 2050 😱😱😱

goken411d ago

Not only CoD will never end, many of it’s spinoffs never seems to end either.
