TimeSplitters Developer Were Asked To Work On Next Goldeneye

"When talking about potential projects in the past, the topic got onto that of Goldeneye. “Because coincidentally just as the LucasArts thing was finishing, a couple of really opportunities came our way. One of them was an acquisition that sounded like it was a serious offer that was going to happen. And another was Activision came to us and asked how would we like to make the next GoldenEye game?”

From looking at the gameplay, it just looks like Fortnite, this would have been very poorly received by timesplitters fans.

Cacabunga812d ago

Another legendary series that ends brutally.. glad this never came out, it’s an insult to the original one

Neonridr813d ago

I'm glad this got cancelled, what's with the Fornite knockoff? TimeSplitters was an FPS, not a 3rd person battle royale.

What were they thinking?

XiNatsuDragnel813d ago (Edited 813d ago )

Looks fornitey would've been cool at the time tbh

I got into a minor disagreement with their staff shortly after the closure, after i commented about a Timesplitters HD remaster to gauge public reception before such a big project here:

https://www.linkedin.com/fe...

Looking at the gameplay footage, it's clear that the staff (no matter what level) we're out of their depth, putting lots of hours into a game that would of been DOA if Embracer didn't shut it down.

CantThinkOfAUsername812d ago

They removed the footage. Here it is if anyone's interested: https://youtu.be/BesmfPD8fj...

It's basically a Fortnite clone. Seems like a good decision to cancel this game.

Free Radical Closed for Good as Developers Say Their Goodbyes

Free Radical has officially closed its doors for good today following the announcement of its shutdown by Embracer.

Terry_B898d ago (Edited 898d ago )

Embracer totally unceremoniously shutting down their just reformed Free Radical Design around two years after buying them and before they were even able to show off their new Time Splitters game is SO Embracer Group. Meh.

Good luck to all devs finding a place elsewhere.

Embracer started off with W after W but lately its been nothing but Ls

neutralgamer1992897d ago

They never had the money to buy and support that’s why. Time splitters HD collection would be awesome

0hMyGandhi897d ago

I can't wait for people to move on from that vernacular.

darthv72898d ago

Man... I hope other studios can pick up these guys and put them to work.

0hMyGandhi897d ago

I'm surprised they didn't try to reform and do the whole kickstarter thing like other former Rare devs did with Playtonic, but with shooters instead of mascot platformers.

Kados897d ago

Embracer should liquidate all their IPs and shut down. They are a skid mark on the industry.

dumahim897d ago

Who would have ever seen this coming? *shocked Pikachu face*

Kados897d ago

Honestly, when they first formed, i had moderate expectations. They were formed by the same people behind THQ Nordic, which was a very good dev, and initially they seemed to be mostly buying up dead IPs that the prior owners had left in the back of the closet. Thought maybe they were actual gamers who were planning on reviving abandoned IPs.

They had an opportunity to be a major boon to the industry, but instead turned into a turd that just guarantees none of these games ever sees day again.

0hMyGandhi897d ago

They almost make EA look better by comparison. Almost.

CobraKai897d ago

I thought they closed decades ago

Plague-Doctor27897d ago

They did. Most of that old studio went on to form Dambuster Studio (Dead Island 2). Embracer bought the rights and created a new internal studio called Free Radical with some of the old team and got them working on a new TimeSplitters. They announced they are shutting that studio down today after about 2 years

mastershredder897d ago

This is some very sad news. They deserve so much better.

SonyStyled897d ago

I’m going to play a Haze in their memory

Lost in Time: Whatever Happened To The Creators Of TimeSplitters?

From PlayStation Universe: "When the PlayStation 2 launched in the year 2000, it possessed a launch title that, despite some flaws, stood out as a wonderfully quirky, competent shooter that would go on to spawn a sequel that remains fondly remembered to this day, even if it’s legacy beyond that is one of longing, failure, and disappointment. TimeSplitters is a name that still warms as many hearts as it breaks."

Sciurus_vulgaris2956d ago

Crytek should re-evaluate their opinions of the Timesplitters franchise. There is games want more for Timesplitters, the demand for the series may not be huge but it’s still there. A remastered Timesplitters trilogy for PC and consoles would be a low risk investment, unless Crytek is still heavily struggling financially.

Zanarkand2955d ago

You could say that Timesplitters still lays dormant even today. It has been quite a while since the big petition opened online for it as i remember it happening there was a lot of interest then, Crytek weren't sure how many would want this game to continue so they gave a certain community of freelance devs a chance. Now...

If only those guys working on TS Rewind would hurry the fuck up.
