It's an decent game, the ending options is really the only big thing that hurt it.

Aloren5192d ago

It's not an an ok game... it's a fantastic game with a disapointing ending.

jthamind5192d ago

agreed. while Mass Effect may not be perfect, and the ending is meh, to say it's not worth playing is crazy. unless someone is the type of gamer who only likes one specific genre or something.

It has brilliant writing, it ties previous games choices in subtly, and up to a point (just after the last battle) its an amazing experience. Just after that and to the finish line it gets really questionable.

If you've played 1 & 2, there is no reason to NOT play.

If you haven't played any, I wouldn't just jump into #3... a lot won't make sense.

But don't let the ending deter you from playing. After all, seeing Tali drunk is priceless.

Its a good game I would say fantastic. There are many things wrong with it like bugs, shitty ending, and eventhough coop is fun it does not have a lasting appeal, but it can be fantastic if bioware keeps the game up to date, improves their good coop and fixes the ending.

I never finished ME1, but I did complete ME2 and loved it. I found ME2 brought out a lot more of an emotional reaction that I expected (like the final pep rally before the last mission).

I've stayed away from ME3 because of the reviews saying that the emotional content of the main storyline was flat and uninspired. I've heard the writing quality dropped significantly since ME2. One of my friends compared it to watching Interview with a Vampire (ME2) then watching Twilight (ME3).

Those reviews troubled me more than the people raging about a poorly executed ending sequence.

I could deal with the ending if it wasn't handled so sloppily.

SPOILER WARNING:
How did a member of my squad end up exiting the Normandy after he/she was last seen with me on Earth?
What was the fate of all the other characters that we've grown attache to over the last few years?

It all just felt so abrupt but I have a feeling that EA was planning on giving gamers closure by charging them for it.

Tali's face reveal was also very cheap well. I still can't get over how lazy that was.

I love how there was multiple occasions where Bioware could have revealed what Quarians look like under the mask. Like the geth server mission where Shepard asks why are these ancient Quarians wearing their bio suits and Legion cooks up a bulls*** answer like "have you seen them without the mask". Funny thing is, Shepard has never seen any of the ancient Quarians so if he can't see their faces, he shouldn't even be able to experience that memory.

Very cheap and cheesy...

Aside from the ending it is a great game, GOTY material. Although it is the weakest in the trilogy.

greyhaven335192d ago

Imo if it didn't have such a flat ending it would widely be considered one the greatest games ever, and even with the ending its still damn brilliant. I have hope the extended cut fixes everything

Christopher5192d ago

I wouldn't even think of touching it with the "Greatest Game Ever" title. Even if the ending was done to show what happened to everyone else. There are a ton of game design and story development flaws in ME3. A ton. It is a lesser version of ME2, which was a lesser version of ME1 when it came to storytelling and game design.

googergieger5192d ago

To be fair, ME2 was more about character progression and emotion. Though I'd easily agree with the idea that it could have been handled better, ME2 served a completely different purpose from ME1. ME1 set up the story. ME2 made you care about it. ME3 ignored those two and phoned something in to make a quick buck.

@cgoodno
Ok....that's your opinion your spouting off, not facts. Get over yourself, and I said one of the greatest not the greatest, which imo, which means for me, not you, it is

Christopher5190d ago (Edited 5190d ago )

Greyhaven33: we're all sharing our opinion here. Don't take it the wrong way when someone's opinion differs. You did notice that I started my whole reply with "I wouldn't even think..." and not "It's a fact...", right? Your response is as if I attacked you or your opinion, I merely shared my own, which differs greatly from yours.

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine581d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast581d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman580d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

He was one of my least favorite characters. I wish they would have done the Proths different.
