I just got a new PC, Dell XPS 420, Vista Premium, Nvidia 8800GT 512 version, Quad Core @2.4Ghz, and 3GB's of RAM @800mhz. This things a BEAST. I'm running Civ 4 deep into the game(when you got more cities and people it takes a LOT more power), settings maxed AAx16, With iTunes and IE7 running in the background, and I'm using average 47% power. $1,200.

PC gaming is here to stay. It's not new, and it's not as grand as it used to be, but it's NOT dying.

It's not dying its just the consoles now can do about the same visual quality and depth that pc titles can do. Look at bioshock for example, smooth framerate same visual quality, orange box, even ut 3 is nearly identical to the ps3 brother. I'm not gonna abandon it because I find titles there to enjoy. Just a lot of what I would have gotten on pc I'll be getting on 360 instead.

Because there will always be PCs in some form or another. It simply won't be as mainstream or exciting, since the specs aren't the same for everyone, and the console gaming industry is simply more exciting

Nah, I don't think its dying.. just in a few year Hiatus as pc hardware catches up to console hardware in terms of affordability an graphical output. PC hardware as well as games (namely crysis) have only just began surpassing the console games graphically since the 360 was released in 2005.. Over the course of 1-2 years pc gaming will be at the top of its game.

Which is why I don't really understand these sony fanboys, its like they just don't realize that this generation is already mostly over, the ps3 will not be able to keep up with pc's with its 3 year old gpu.. soon to be 4 year old(built in may 2005).. and 256 mbs of ram.. cell or no cell. One more year and you'll see me back on pc, having enjoyed my 4 years of gaming on the 360. meanwhile ps3 is still waiting to get a single aaa title..

Currently alienware puts 2 gpu's (nvidia 8800 series) in their computers of the latest model, giving 3d benchmarks of almost 5 times what the ps3 can output (10,400+). With quad core cpus and 4 gigs of ram the ps3 and 360 look like a wii's by comparison... next year these computers will be much less expensive.

Whether you go 360, or pc-vista, your going microsoft.. Sony lost this generation anyway you cut it. PC gaming is amazing. The sad thing is that it alienates a lot of the less tech savy individuals from enjoying the experience because all of the constant changes to hardware can be very intimidating to some. Thats why games like Diablo, WoW, and CS did well because they weren't so demanding in order for an individual to enjoy the experience.

The sad part is systems like the 360 that are focused on FPS can easily grab sales that would have normally gone to the PC. And it's sad because the PC controls FPS so beautifully and in a superior way to any controller to date, with exception to the potential that the WiiMote may have if utilized in a better fashion then MP3 was. FPS is a huge part of PC gaming and that aspect may continue to spiral downward, but MMO's will continue to enjoy success on the PC. They just work so much better with a PC than consoles. I've tried FFXI with the PS2 and although I played for about a year, it became very frustrating to switch between controller and keyboard no matter how routine it becomes. Than having to have a keyboard on your lap like most console users do isn't the best way of using it. The only thing is with MMO's they are a double edged sword because you are drawing more PC gamers and subscriptions insure constant profit, but those gamers become so wrapped up in the game that they never give other titles PC or console a chance.

If PC gaming every becomes "dead" anytime soon, we should really ask how much has the popularity of MMO's destroyed the market?

PC is still the most popular platform for online games in the world today, I think some genres are getting slightly worn out on PC (FPS) it's all going to be MMO in a few years time.

Pcgaming is way bigger than any other plattform in terms of sales. In Several countries PC gaming is bigger than ALL OTHER PLATTFORMS COMBINED (Sweden for example). And this is without counting downloading services as Direct2drive, steam etc.

Competative gaming is nonexistent on consoles. It pops up from time to time but its a joke compared to the online PC community.

The review score thing. Its MUCH easier for a console game to get a higher score than a PC game. The PC market is more competative and have ALOT more to compare with (~20 years of games...) Most pcgames at 90%+ are unforgettable classics that people will take out and play again years from now. Many of the 90%+ games for current gen consoles will be forgotten by this time next year.

Sure its my view but in terms of depth the consoles are still in the 90s. I Have yet to se an RPG coming close to the same scope as Baldurs gate 2 or the glorius madnes of Fallout. Mass effect was a step in the right direction (although console bastardization shone trough a little to much att times) but it feels like a demo when compared to baldurs gate 1/2. And no, Final fantasy isnt what i call a RPG. Its an Adventure game.

And then we have FPS games. This is something the consoles wont take over. Fps is and will always be better on a PC. Sure you can play with a mouse and keyboard on a ps 3 now but all that manages to do is create an unlevel playingfield since not everyone plays with it. The PC fps games requires far more precision, have higher speed and requires "more" skill. The hitboxes on most console FPS are quite retarded. its like ducttaping all of your vital organs to the outside of your body. it gets like "ow! you missed my arm but took out my heart". Mostly this is a control/speed issue, but i dont ever think consoles will get it right as long as some players play on controllers.
Also everything in the FPS genre has been done first and better on the PC

Do i even have to write about RTS? Console RTSs are always clunky, slow moving and simple games, this is also a controller issue. You really cant micromanage a big army with two analog sticks.

ANd then MMOs. MMOs in the current form will never work on consoles. Just a simple thing like chat. Could you imagine WOW with general as an open voicechat? Any MMO that will require more than point and shoot will be better on a PC.

I used to be a die-hard PC gamer, but recently it is just to difficult (or more precesisely, pricy) to jump into PC gaming. If you want to make a truly decent gaming PC, you need to spend a few grand on components. Some of you might still have some good stuff still lieing around that can be reused from one rig to the next, I know I do. But components are costing far more then they used to. I've seen the top Geforce cards going for like 600-700 dollars, yikes. Top CPUs going for over a grand. Now, mind you, those are extremes. You could cut the prices in half and find components that have maybe 15% less power, which is fine. But I can go and pick up a 360 or PS3, get the complete setup, and it will still cost less then a single PC component. Manufacturers and sellers need to bring the prices down on PC hardware if they want to masses to truly jump in and start buying.

You really don't need to upgrade every year, annoying thing which alot of people say. If you a true hardcore PC gamer then sure that person will upgrade every 6-12 months which in my mind is pointless. I'm a PC gamer and console gamer, without PC's, how would consoles be able to advance?

Face it, PC's are still here and will always be here. Games like WoW, CSS, DoDS, Battlefield 2 etc are keeping PC gaming alive. Only upgrade your PC if needed be or if you have alot of cash to throw around.

I'm gonna save up £1,500 to build a new computer, probaly won't need that much maybe a grand at least. The computer I'm using at the moment is about 3-4 years old and I upgraded it with a new graphics card and ram for quite cheap.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
