NPD: Binary Domain sold 20,000 in March

Joystiq: Following its launch on February 28, it seems Binary Domain didn't have a very good March. According to data Joystiq received from the NPD, Sega's sci-fi shooter only sold 20,000 copies during the month. Compare that to the 1.3 million physical copies sold of the other big sci-fi game of March, Mass Effect 3.

Sega will need to rethink their strategy that's for sure

"Sega's sci-fi shooter only sold 20,000 copies during the month. Compare that to the 1.3 million physical copies sold of the other big sci-fi game of March, Mass Effect 3."

Could have something to do with one of them being a quality game and the other being pure crap.

kevnb5152d ago

mass effect 3 also got bundled with kinect all over. Not to mention heavy marketing and good prequels.

ShaunCameron5152d ago

Okay. Explain Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City's sales. That game got considerably worse reviews yet fared much better in sales. Binary Domain's reviews were decent.

Look here, Binary Domain is actually a great game. Have you played it? No, but you insult it because you treasure your Mass Effect 3. Broaden your common taste a bit and play Binary Domain, it's shooting mechanics make Mass Effect's look like crap.

BTW, i love the Mass Effect trilogy, but give Binary Domain a chance.

lol, im one of those 20,000. fun game, excellent campaign, best surprise this year but terrible terrible multiplayer

StanSmith5152d ago

Same! It's got a cracking single player. I got it brand new at half price too.

pr0digyZA5152d ago

Definitely was better than I ever thought, and the story wasn't to bad.

madjedi5152d ago

Online isn't terrible exactly, but you will be getting massacred by lvl 40-50 japanese players alot. Espically if you don't abuse the cover and blindfire system.

Most of my deaths have been from either players rolling and flipping like shinobi at close range with a shotty or short-medium range against a sniper with anything but another sniper rifle is suicide.

Invasion is very fun but gets ridiculously hard at wave 10-15, and no one does anything but tdm and free for all, it seems most of the time.

There were tons of people online when I was playing it. Most of them were foreign though.

Actually great list TBH I agree with all 10

I hope one day we get some remakes for the following

The saboteur(with a proper remake and quality of life features this game could be great)
Scarface world is yours
Binary domain ( such a great game with great story)
GUN(this needs a remake)
Space marine 40k(such fun time)

Would also like to suggest adding the mercenary series even the 2nd game which is disliked by many is a fun time

I recently finished Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and found it to be very enjoyable.

The game respected the lore and the gameplay was quite decent.

The color palette was a bit underwhelming (backdrops and setting) and recycled but I think that it deserved better.

Here's hoping for an amazing sequel

Space Marine II !! My most anticipated game of 2023! Woot

pretty solid third person shooter played from start to finish, also there is another great third person shooter game from that time and very unique called Inversion.

porkChop1169d ago

Inversion was cool. It was made by the same team behind TimeShift, another really cool but flawed shooter.

HeliosHex1169d ago

Yeah this was a good game despite poor reviews.

Hofstaderman1169d ago

I still have my copy. It’s a brilliant game despite the reviews.

Cyberpunk Backlog: Binary Domain - A Masterpiece by SEGA

Developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the makers of the Yakuza games, Binary Domain is an extremely underrated cyberpunk third-person shooter. Directed by Toshihiro Nagoshi, the mastermind behind the famous Yakuza series, the game is quite different from his previous works. Nagoshi stated that he wanted to explore the themes of life, more specifically through the use of robots. It’s a cyberpunk-themed game, and the game has interesting views on technology, robots and how society would behave in such a world. There are numerous references to other cyberpunk works and fans of the genre will be pleasantly surprised.

I would love a sequel or remake of this game. Such a fun romp

JayRyu2256d ago

^Agreed

This was such an underrated game. I liked the story and some of the action scenes were really good.

Gamehard2256d ago

I've always wanted to play this game. Huge fan of Vanquish and a few of my friends have always recommended trying this, too. I think I even have it on steam and PS3 but just never made time :( The backlog struggle is real.

DerfDerf2256d ago

This game was awesome. So satisfying the way the robots broke into pieces.

SovereignSnaKe2256d ago (Edited 2256d ago )

I'm looking at my copy right now. I got rid of a bunch of 360 games years ago but I just couldn't part with this one. It was really something special. I've recommended it to several people over the years and almost all of them have never even heard of it.
