Max Payne Review (Modojo)

Chris Buffa (Modojo): Few action heroes are more compelling than a man with nothing to lose. Exhibit A: Max Payne. We first met the New York City cop in 2001 in the third-person shooter of the same name, and his tale began like so many others, a guy with everything to live for, only to see it come crashing down at business end of someone's gun. A wife and baby murdered, a Mafia family pulling the strings and NYPD seeking his arrest, just the right amount of ingredients to send this family man (any man, for that matter) over the edge.

I thought it was a Max Payne 3 review. Had me for a minute.

I hope it will deliver.. we deserve a good Max Payne remake

HansyJ586d ago

We deserve nothing, but the legacy of Max pain deserves it

Cacabunga585d ago

Max Payne fans deserve a good remake. Maybe that is more clear

The_Blue585d ago

' but the legacy of Max pain deserves it"
The Max Payne legacy deserves it.

SoloZelot90585d ago

Okay...so something digital deserves it but something real doesn't?

DarXyde585d ago

I'm not much of a Remedy gamer beyond Alan Wake, but I can't say I've ever heard anyone complain about the quality of the product, whether we like the game or not.

CrimsonWing69586d ago

Um, I’d think that should go without saying… but glad they’re committed to making the quality excellent as opposed to, uh, not.

Gamingsince1981586d ago

Yeah it's kinda weird for them to say that and redundant.

DodoDojo585d ago

Its because they know that they lost trust with the GTA trilogy.

CrimsonWing69585d ago (Edited 585d ago )

I don’t think Remedy had anything to do with that. I get you’re referring to a publisher, but you wouldn’t think a developer would be reassuring people about their game when a different developer made a game that dropped the ball that’s under the same publishing umbrella.

Like, why would From Soft have to assure us that they’re game will be be striving for excellence if Namco Bandai is publishing and they’re referring to something like Unknown 9: Awakening?

This is just a weird statement no matter how you spin it, but also good to know.

oh.......thanks
"update, won't suck we hope" lol

VersusDMC586d ago

Well rockstar is paying the bills so they have to project confidence so it isn't cancelled.

What I'm wondering is who is going to voice Max since the og actor died or they are using the old VO like MGS3Remake.

Profchaos586d ago

Rockstar has always had a great relationship with remedy this isn't some new fly by night partnership they have worked together for 20 plus years now

VersusDMC586d ago

Max payne 2 was the last time they worked with rockstar in 2003. And it bombed.

Rockstar asked remedy to check out Max Payne 3 for notes but were not really involved.

So having worked on a project 20 years ago doesn't mean they have been working together for 20 plus years.

swedishMeatwad586d ago

Wow, breaking news! Developer aiming for excellent quality!

SoloZelot90585d ago

Considering some new releases that's good to hear. It is better than aiming for diversity and inclusion.

Demetrius602d ago (Edited 602d ago )

Playing max payne 2 on ps2 for the first time, lol this series definitely needs a remake. The gameplay is rough😅 still a good game tho I hope they keep that gritty feel to it.

RaidenBlack602d ago

My most anticipated remake(s)

Cant wait to see how this turns out. Max payne with Control's level of physics and destruction would be amazing. AND IT BETTER HAVE A PHYSICAL RELEASE
