No Nintendo at Gamescom

IGN:

Nintendo will not be exhibiting at this year's Gamescom, according to a spokesperson for the company. Silja Gulicher, press officer for Nintendo Germany, said: "Although Gamescom is one of the most important fairs of the year for us, we've decided not to take part this year."

NYC_Gamer5147d ago

I wish we had some huge fan type of event like Gamescom out here in the states

gaffyh5147d ago

What are you talking about? The US gets LOADS of gaming events such as PAX East and West, E3, Blog meetups (at least on the PlayStation side), and the rest of us are stuck with sub-par stuff. I know most of them aren't for fans, but neither are the ones in Europe mainly.

In any case, on topic, this seems like a huge mistake on Nintendo's part. It means that they either are going to have a GREAT E3, and announce a ton of things and let gamers "stew" OR they are going to have a BAD E3 and are hoping that the time between E3 and TGS will be enough to soften the blow of less games.

KILLERAPP5147d ago

If your launching a new console then you should bring your console to show it everywhere you can. That is what I think but Nintendo have done this game before so they know what there doing...

PopRocks3595147d ago

But the tech we saw at E3 is officially outdated. Nintendo confirmed that the version that will be in retail is going to be at E3. You gotta reel 'em in with the biggest of the big shows, you know?

If they showed the old Wii U, it'll probably give people the wrong idea, particularly since we're pretty close to E3.

NYC_Gamer5147d ago

Gamescom=the E3 of Europe...

StanSmith5147d ago

Got to agree with KILLERAPP. The WiiU is beginning to look a mess at this point. We know nothing new since the unveiling which essentially told us nothing as well.

Nintendo should have been more prepared. At this rate, my preorder for WiiU will be made very late or not at all.

ChickeyCantor5147d ago (Edited 5147d ago )

Its not beginning to look like anything.
People are actually excited( or if you will, eager) for E3 which will bring the biggest impact on their Win or Fail situation.

They will drop so many new announcements that their E3 show will Echo ( for better or for worse ) for a good time until the Wii-U launces.

When E3 hits, and it's a success you will change your tune. I can bet my legs on it.

StanSmith5147d ago

I hope they do change my tune. I really do. Saying that, it still doesn't change the current situation being a huge mess.

Nintendo created confusion upon announcing the WiiU. People thought it was just an add-on for Wii. That took weeks to clear up. Then, like i said, nothing.

Announcing at E3 will hurt them. It is not enough time for the mass market to budget/research into the console. We are not exactly in great economic times and people just don't have the cash to drop on a £200+ console and that is before software. Nintendo are hurting sales by these tactics. They are not creating hype. They are killing it.

ChickeyCantor5147d ago (Edited 5147d ago )

"Nintendo created confusion upon announcing the WiiU. People thought it was just an add-on for Wii. That took weeks to clear up. Then, like i said, nothing. "

Thats not true.
Reggie was also on events talking about it making it clear it's a new console.

"Announcing at E3 will hurt them. It is not enough time for the mass market to budget/research into the console"

It won't hurt them at all unless their promise is underwhelming.

Nintendo works mainly on short announcements because it keeps the hype fresh( E3 will be one of them).
So far there has already been mouth to mouth advertisement( by us, etc), reggie went on some shows to announce the console. It's already out there. The public knows about it.

What better way is there than to drop many more announcements for the Wii-U in one day?
We will learn about launch games.
Exlusive games( especially Nintendo games).
Games to come.
Price.
launch date.
Maybe learn more about 3DS connectivity.
Then there will always be a tech guy who could explain all the technical features.

Then they probably do more of those Ubisoft conferences where they show demos of their Wii-U games. You are saying in your comment below that they aren't showing any games so the hype is dying. That's what E3 is for. Also Sony and MS are luring around the corner on what the devs are doing. Nintendo need to protect their new product as well.

I mean It can only go good from then on.
You mean to say that because they aren't showing anything now. There won't be anything good then.

In this economy there is no "good" time to announce anything. It can fluctuate anytime.People just have make up their priorities.

@lucretia below
" they dont give devs the dev kits,"

What? They actually do hand out dev kits. How else will they build relationships with third party developers?

StanSmith5147d ago

"Then they probably do more of those Ubisoft conferences where they show demos of their Wii-U games. You are saying in your comment below that they aren't showing any games so the hype is dying. That's what E3 is for."

That's not what i am saying. I'm saying we know nothing about a console that is supposed to release in 6-8 months time. That is killing hype.

"Also Sony and MS are luring around the corner on what the devs are doing. Nintendo need to protect their new product as well."

Protect it from what? Sony & Microsoft are not ready to release new consoles this year. If they want to copy/1-up Nintendo, they will do next year when they release their new consoles. Like i said below, there is no real reason for Nintendo's secrecy.

"I mean It can only go good from then on.
You mean to say that because they aren't showing anything now. There won't be anything good then. "

Again, I'm not saying that. I'm saying that Nintendo should be flexing it's muscles with WiiU. We should know, at the very least, about the hardware.

Nintendo cannot sell the console purely on Multiplatform games that will be available on other platforms a few months before. If they go crazy on a new Mario game or other Nintendo Franchise, to help sell the console, that will annoy the third part developers.

Nintendo's strategy is risky, but, at the end of the day, we have to wait until E3 to see if it pays off.

Lucretia5147d ago

man, the wii-u is killing itself, no one but hardcore nintendo fans care about it, how can they? they dont show anything, they dont give devs the dev kits, all thats announced is 2 multiplats that we will already own.

no reason to buy a wii u for just mario and zelda again. i will wait 2-3 years till they have enough games.

StanSmith5147d ago (Edited 5147d ago )

Totally agree. At this moment, with a rumoured 7 months before release, we know next to nothing. We have no screenshots of games, no idea of the power of the console, no idea of the cost of it and no idea of any games (apart from Aliens and Darksiders 2) coming to it. If they really wait until June for E3, then it will hurt them.

The WiiU hype is dying. I was hyped up when Nintendo announced it, but at this point, i'm at the point where i just think, meh.

Lucretia5147d ago

yeah. I do wanna play an HD mario and zelda, but it isnt enough.

no one even really knows how the console looks, and with nintendos track record of only having their gens last for 5 years it seems like a gamble.

im not sure what they are doing, they were geniuses (marketing wise) when it came to the wii......or just lucky, im not sure. but they are messing up right now and i dont want that to happen

yabhero5147d ago

Wow... Love how you guys are backing out when we just have to wait less than 2 months for it...

BitbyDeath5147d ago (Edited 5147d ago )

Nintendo will probably push the console back til next year to get an idea of what specs Sony and MS are pushing for their next consoles.

Lack of info + devs recently stating they are not working on Wii U versions of multi-plat games kind of points to this.

Moncole5147d ago

People hating on Nintendo? How surprising

Lucretia5147d ago (Edited 5147d ago )

so, with half a year from release tell me one thing about the wii-u besides multiplat games, and a tablet controller. seriously, let me know.

@Marioftw. Well Said

Parapraxis5147d ago

People defending Nintendo? How surprising

StanSmith5147d ago

It isn't just a case of people hating on Nintendo. They had everyone drooling when the WiiU was announced. Since then, Nothing. They are killing their own hype.

Think about it, why do they need to be so secretive about it now? It's not like MS and Sony can throw a new console into the market to beat the WiiU within 7 months. Why do we have numerous conflicting reports over it's power? Damage is being done to WiiU's reputation because Nintendo are sitting quietly doing nothing about it.

There is a saying that if you throw enough mud, it sticks. That applies here quite well. Nintendo are doing nothing to combat the naysayers.

ZeroG195147d ago

Its clear that nintendo is saving all the info for E3 to make a BIGGER impact, which i dont get why people dont realize that (I mean you see devs only giving out bits and tibits about games/hardware)

Bottom line: Nintendo fans dont worry,Non Nintendo fans be amazed E3'12!

iigameu5147d ago

All this is starting to b interesting:/ either its for good reason or their not prepared for a launch of their new system.......hmmmm somethins not right, how much can they acually unvail at e3 anyways...hmph

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

Nintendo filed a lawsuit in the United States Court of International Trade.

Nintendo of America is suing the United States government over the sweeping tariffs President Donald Trump put in place last year, according to a complaint filed Friday in the U.S. Court of International Trade and obtained by Aftermath.

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer70d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot69d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno69d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay69d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno68d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK68d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
