Monolith Soft Tried Using A Turn Based Battle System For Xenoblade Chronicles

Siliconera: Xenoblade Chronicles has a real-time battle system built like Final Fantasy XII’s Active Dimension Battle system or an MMORPG. Monsters roam the field for players to lure (or avoid if you’re wandering around at night) and managing aggro is key to staying alive. Unique to Xenoblade Chronicles is how visions of the future are integrated into combat.

i downloaded this game before it was announced for a western release, got a bit into it and stopped when i heard that it was going to release here. ill go buy it after i finish playing tales of graces f and finish it

glad gamestop is putting money forward to bring this over to NA, very nice of them. some people might like to think theyre a bad company, and in many ways they arent very good to their customers, but they are pretty much the reason that this game is releasing in the states, so i appreciate them. also xseed, im glad theyre picking up the last story publishing and bringing it to the west

I'm glad they decided for a real-time battle system. That and the heavy exploration are some of the reasons it's such a great experience.

Makes sense. It's been nearly 3 years since the DLC for 3 came out. The next Xenoblade or whatever they end up calling it will probably come out next year.

For me, Xenoblade 2 and 3 and Final Fantasy 7 remake and rebirth are the best JRPGs or RPGs in general ever made. Yes, they even surpassed Expedition 33 in my honest opinion. Before, the Tales series was among my favorites, but I was very disappointed with their last game, Tales of Arise. Its world has become linear and not as expansive as their previous games. Fortunately, its battle gameplay is still very good. I hope that in the next Tales game, they will expand the game even more.

Hoping for a new Xenoblade game from Monolith Soft in this year's Nintendo General Direct. And it should be a Switch 2 exclusive.

Yeah, Xenoblade 2 and 3 are amazing. I would have put Xenoblade 2 in first and 3 in second if I was ranking them.

Zeldafan64102d ago (Edited 102d ago )

The "worst" Xenoblade game is still better than 95% of games out there. Xenoblade 2 is my favorite rpg ever. All the Xenoblade games have incredible characters, soundtracks, voice acting, stories, world design and combat (save for Xenoblade 1 whose combat, while good, is not incredible).

They had a central role in developing Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

I guess this means the next Zelda game will remain in the open world formula then?

Zeldafan64149d ago

Probably. After how well those 2 games sold I doubt they'll ever go back to the more traditional style games. Doesn't matter to me which one they make.

S2Killinit149d ago

Wasn’t it always? Ocarina of time was also open world no? Was there any zelda game that was linear?

Nebaku149d ago

They didn't. Literally read the article, or anything about the interview posted in the past couple days.

Mono had minimal involvement in Skyward Sword, joined into BOTW halfway during production, and only TOTK is where they were actually there from the start.

Vithar149d ago

I'd rather them working on the next Xenoblade

ZeekQuattro149d ago

They proved they can do both. The made two new Xenoblades on the Switch and ported over two older entries. While helping with two Zelda games. Which will never not be insane to me.

Vithar148d ago

for sure :) I want them to announce their new RPG for SW2! Xenoblade is one of my favorite series of all time

TheColbertinator148d ago (Edited 148d ago )

Maybe I will enjoy Zelda games once more if they take over and remake the series into an RPG

Zeldafan64148d ago

The odds of that happening are basically 0.
