Nolan North loves Max Payne 3

The Max Payne 3 demo at PAX East is getting a very positive reaction from those who got to try it out and it looks like the voice of Nathan Drake was one of them.

I need me some painkillers.

VanillaBear5168d ago

Looks amazing but I still don't like what Rockstar have done to MP, they should of just stuck to New York or some other dark, gritty city with the same noire feel to it, it's the only thing missing from MP3....no noire just acction action and more action. Dosen't help aswell when Max for most of the game looks nothing like himself....bald, beard, bright coloured tops

Solid_Malone5168d ago (Edited 5168d ago )

Totally agree with you, I was really hoping for the film noire atmosphere from the new Max Payne but it seems to be going down an action oriented route.

Fez5168d ago

I disagree. I think going down the dark noire road would be too safe and too familiar so I'm glad they've decided to change things up.

The story is hopefully still gritty and from the little I've seen it seems like Max is as messed up as ever. It still looks to have all the action from the first two games, some nice cinematic graphic novel style cutscenes and the original voice actor which are all big pluses.

Eamon5168d ago (Edited 5168d ago )

The beginning of the game will be set in New York as far as I know.

But I agree with others that the entire game should have been set in NY.

Noir is one of Max Payne's main cinematic themes and without it, it just isn't the same.

Rockstar claims that the noir feel will still remain regardless of location, so I only hope that's true.

VanillaBear5167d ago

I've been reading about the New York levels but in my opinion I think Rockstar are exagerating them abit because they know thats what people like the look of more then the "new route" they've taken Max in, people liking the old "Remedy" feel then Rockstars,.........in reality I think those flashback levels will be really, really short and will be over before you know it. It's just to try and make people who are worried buy the game, but since it's Rockstar people won't complain untill a good 8/10 months later just like GTA4.

It's like how recently Rockstar have pointed out Remedy have been a little "involved" with overseeing the game and them saying Rockstar have done well with it......but really it's not like Remedy can do anything if they do feel like what Rockstar has done has ruined what MP was all about, they only can nod their head and smile.

I'll be honest if it's a good game, it looks great but deep down it's not the MP sequel I wanted.

Kran5168d ago

And this is news because....?

I mean great. He loves it. Certainly a twitter moment. Not it's not news at all :/

Smashbro295168d ago

Better than the "hey look a hot girl" ones. At least its about an opinion on a video game.

Kran5168d ago

When I have an opinion, not many people give a damn :/

Hicken5168d ago

Are you a big name in the game industry?

No offense, but with North voicing one of the most notable characters this generation- from one of the most widely acclaimed new franchises this generation- it's not that surprising that his opinion would matter to people.

It's not QUITE the same, but it's more akin to Kojima saying he likes a game than someone like you or I.

Kran5168d ago

So... You're essentially saying that because I'm not a big name in the games industry, nobody should give a damn what I say?

That's very horrid of you to say.

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty136d ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan137d ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher136d ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty136d ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies12136d ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH136d ago (Edited 136d ago )

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

They were involved in protected Union activities and Rockstar will be in trouble with the NLRB.

DarXyde188d ago

You think this NLRB will lift a finger?

Ps5conehead188d ago

Watch the video this is in England

gerbintosh188d ago

Basically this is Rockstar vs the Union members word. These employees could be cherry picking or spoofing the chat logs.Rockstar could be lying. I will withhold judgment until Discord is subpoened and releases the chat group text from their servers.

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser explains why open world spy game Agent never worked out

A rare interview from the former GTA and Red Dead Redemption writer and executive producer.

dveio211d ago

Interesting to know.

Among MGS4, Agent was the reason I wanted and bought a PS3. (Who knew we would get other gems like Killzone 2 and TLoU.)

I always assumed it got cancelled due to hardware restrictions even at that time.

Deeeeznuuuts211d ago

Such a shame, I remember first reading about it in official playstation magazine, Agent and The Getaway are the two cancelled games I wish I could play 😩

Christopher210d ago

Because it had to be open world, of course. Couldn't change that and make the Agent game work otherwise. Totally buying it.

Redgrave210d ago

I used to laugh whenever I'd see someone cite Agent as a game to look forward to, because it was never officially canceled (at least, as far as I've seen.)

"It's still real to me, dammit!"
