Bay speaks the truth. Every famous movie director embrace blu-ray, and there must be a reason for doing so. There's no argument that hd-dvd is indeed inferior, with the exception of price (lol).

He sounds as if he's been drinking hence a spelling mistake or two but the guy is passionate about his movies and wants more people to watch them, that's why he like Blu-ray so much because more Blu-ray fans buy these types of movies. I should expect a Transformers special edition in a few months on Blu-ray and I'm sure Bay will do something special for it.

Michael Bay can be hilarious at times. It's not often you see such a high profile figure speaking without any reservations.

That said, his movies almost always suck so I don't really care what he says (even though it's mostly true).

Jeez, Mike. WTF? I'm a Blu-ray supporter, but I know damn well that Blu-ray and HD-DVD releases share the same video codecs, VC1, AVC, etc. Superior sound can be found on Blu-ray with 7.1 channel, but the video is largely the same, and is the same for multiformat releases. Blu-ray's space is great to have though, and while it does open the way for better codecs, until said codecs are created, the video should be the same, which in other words means mind blowingly awesome. Now if Mike wants more space to include incredible amounts of extra features, all in 1080p glory that is a different story.

I'm a retailer that sells both, so I'll live with whichever is the winner. I am however liking this guy less and less. At least stand behind your movie which hundreds of thousands of people bought on HD DVD. This wang has been dissing it since before it came out. If and when a Blu version of Transformers comes out it better be superior after all of Bay's BS. Just my 2 cents

The increased storage capacity allows for less audio and video compression; hell, even the HD-DVD version had pretty piss-poor audio options, which is a shame considering how amazing the sound is in Transformers.

The Blu-ray version was already completed before Paramount took the exclusivity agreement, so it's not like extra money would be spent releasing it to Retail.

HD-DVD has had tha better transfers to date because of tha better use of tech & codecs. Itz not that Blu-ray cant match it or feasibly surpass it just hasnt done it yet. He's a complete dip-shh for sayin transformers would look better on blu-ray now as it would look tha same if anything.
Transformers would look best on Holo-Disc anyway 4x 1080p etc lol

They will in the next year...and since bluray supports 100 GB discs..(soon) we will see some awesome encodes not even possible on HDDVD.

Steven Speilberg is more of a professional then this guy. We all know that Steven loves Blu-Ray as well but he does not act like an idiot & at the same time (regardless of DVD format choice) call people that pay to see his movies d!ck wads unlike someone else.

He must be referring to the higher transfer rate thus less compression available on Blu-ray. He was probably pushed on the forums by some HD-DVD fan boys claiming he knew little to nothing.

I will admit, if I was there for every little nook and cranny tweak for a movie I made, people telling me how to do my job would piss me off too.

There's gonna be a LOT of HDDVD-based bitterness for quite some time. And while Toshiba is clamoring the bells of HD...the film industry is no doubt going to call for a quick and maybe not-so-quiet death of the format, considering their God (money) is heavily involved.

what matters is that, for Paramount, his movies tend to gross *OVER $400 *MILLION dollars, so, to them, his opinion matters very much to them.

personally, i think he's not a great director (i mean, he's no Spielberg, Scorceze, Welles, or Del Torro), but he makes fun popcorn movies.

i'm a child of the 80's. i grew up with Transformers (i didn't just hop on board because of a t-shirt i saw in Hot Topic), and no, the movie is nothing like the cartoons, but it was a fun popcorn movie.

Bad Boys, Bad Boys 2, and The Rock are also fun popcorn movies, and never said they were trying to be otherwise.

i can enjoy a Citizen Kane, All About Eve, Sunset Blvd, and Silence of the Lambs just as much as i can enjoy Bay's fodder. those who expect more from him are being silly. could any of you guys go out, right now, and make a film that will gross as much as Transformers, the Rock, Bad Boys, and Bad Boys 2? probably not.

my point is that people *DO like his films (as evidenced by the sales of Transformers on DVD), and in all honesty, in business, that matters more to Paramount than what a few people on the internet have to say about the matter.

it doesn't matter that i *AGREE with most of you regarding his talent, but it has no bearing on the reality of the situation, which is that Bay makes Paramount a *LOT of money with practically *EVERY explosion filled brain-cell killer he produces.

Hey man. I absolutely agree with what he is saying. Whether you like his movies is not an issue here (just some HD-DVD fanboys being sore losers). I emphasis SOME, not all fanboys. I respect the opinions of people. If these HD-DVD fanboys are to tell me "I like HD-DVD because its more affordable", Fine, i accept that. But do not go around bashing and sh1tting like nobody business cause you are acting like one here.

Moreover stop making yourself a fool by arguing that a HD-DVD and a Blu-ray is the same when it really isn't. The storage capacity and bit-rate differ in their specification. Its like telling me a CD and a DVD is the same. Ya ya...its "alright" for you to have 6 CDs to make up for a DVD...you just have to keep changing disc. LOL.

He is not attacking all HD-DVD fans. Just the ones that attacked him first so it's defense. Also, the only group of HD-DVD fans that deserve the insult are the ones that have simply sided with it to be against Blu-ray because of some blind hate for PS3.

Not all HD-DVD supporters are/were haters. I feel that had game consoles not been involved, the format war would have been extended way longer. Plenty of HD DVD supporters didn't see that much of a difference and therefore went with the lower price. Also the name was alot safer to some people who weren't that educated on high def entertainment, and simply upgrading to a HD version of dvd(hense the name) was something they could do without fear. That isn't unreasonable at all.

However, like the blu ray and PS3 relation, alot of HD DVD supporters not only supported it because of the HD DVD add on for 360, but to antagonize the PS3. Obviously Blu ray winning means more purchases of PS3's and an almost manditory means of Microsoft feeding the hand that bites them.(see what I did there =D)

Its funny how its all Xbox fans that have a problem with MB voicing his opinion on his own Blog, while you all do the same on someones else's site.

At the end of the day it only comes down to one thing, the ability to watch great high definition movies on one singular format. Fortunately for me I have a PS3 but I do feel sorry for the HD-DVD suppoters as they now have a bum deal. Shame on the big companies who could not agree a universal format, mainly Toshiba who originally screwed Sony when the DVD format was created. Im looking forward to the day when Transformers gets released on Blu-ray. But the main question is have too many people been burnt by this whole sorry saga and is there enough education for High Definition to take off?

as simply put as possible, the appearance of the movie has nothing to do with the format and everything to do with the authoring. Now, if he didn't have enough space on one disc or another that may be something else altogether but he does come across as though he's a bit clueless at the moment. It's also disappointing to see someone like this get so petty a format he has very little to do with.

He can spend color time as much as he wants. As I stated numerous times before - but then it was when HD-DVD camp claiming "better quality"... it is still true when BR claim "better quality"...

It can not be. Simply because a AVI, MPEG2, MPEG4, etc etc formats - is digital files - and is exactly the same if you put it on tape drive, a CD, a DVD, HD-DVD or BR. It can not give different quality on a different format, because it is the same file. A spreadsheet on BR is not suddenly "enhanced" just because it is on a BR disk and not HD-DVD. The only difference is the playback equipment, and when the drives are swapped around, it will give the same quality again.

Give it up both camps. The only advantage BR has is that it allows for more storage, and faster transfer speeds. It does not alter the actual content. Try it out. Copy a jpg file to a stiffy, HD, CD, DVD, BR, HD-DVD or whatever - and see if it gives you a different quality.

The statement is BS - if it comes from a BR or HD-DVD supporter makes no difference. It is BS.

First, MB your film is only in HD not BD, so how do you know it will look better?
Second, most films put out on both formats thus far have looked the same.
Third, audio mags and online sites have all said anything gained in PCM over lossless is very little at best and most can not even tell the difference between the two once sound levels have been matched.

The best part about BD to me is still the coating on the disc. Otherwise it's basically the same content different disc format.
