like Hyundai says for their car commercials. DUH! why buy hd-dvd when all the support is now on blu-rays side?

This is BIG news. Im sure with all the attention this news is getting from various websites and tv(expected) more people will seem more convinced on buying a Blu Ray player if they were uncertain. Those who were feeling convinced of buying and HDDVD player will now feel unsure and possibly decide tu buy a Bluray player. Wasnt Samsung working on a HDDVD player? If they were, Im sure this will pull the plug on the project and just call it quits before they invest on an almost certain loss. We will beging to see more HD hardware and accessories move this year. DVD will see a shift to HD. Im sure all Bluray onwers feel they bet their money right. I do.

Well it is about time that this format war gets decided, this is a good day for technology not just for Blu-Ray. HD-DVD should now do the right thing and take their format down and admit defeat.

Good Karma is returning to Sony.

It's hard me to believe that either one of the formats will be dead anytime soon. With combo drives coming out this year and cost being cut in half, not to mention, the investment film distributions made for the formats.

This isn't the VHS vs Beta all over again, because these formats are too similiar in all regards. And with the public embracing HD more than ever and with the average consumer most likely knowing very little about each format, I think the sales battles are just beginning.

Man the megatons keep dropping....we will see more in the next week at CES.

CNET is stating the obvious given what just happened. HD-DVD is taking a hell of a beaten these past days. Almost feel sorry them, almost.

Why the hell would you buy a combo drive when there will be NO movies on that format?! Are you that ignorant to realize that? It's like buying a VCR with Betamax included. WHY????

REALLY CNET? Don't buy a HD-DVD player? Noooo i never would've thought of that, even the average consumer knows Blu-ray won considering the amount of movies it has.

why is every one under the impression that this Hd dvd news affects "xbots"?! not every one who has a 360 owns an hd dvd player, infact many of us own blue ray players, not me but many do. this affects microsoft, toshiba, universal and hddvd owners not neccesarily 360 owners. this is not a flaim war, its the end of a formmat war. i'm not going to say all ps3 owners are extremist, but the few radicals are really blowing this one out of porprtion. if i have to buy blueray soon then i will;sony's name dosent offend me.

What u read goofy, and it says in the first paragraph in bold, hold off on any blu-ray and hd-dvd players or movies, meaning continue the stalemate confusion till ms is done.

why did anyone ever think hd-dvd would win in the first place. It's been obvious since day one, yet people were still ignorant and continued to think hd-dvd would win. reap what you so.

worry Blu Ray will die next. 8 million Blu Ray players out worldwide and no movie cracked a million yet. There is even more BR players out that movies sold and the new 2.0 standalones will not be mass market price for another 3-4 years.

well after reading some threads. looks like i'm buying a hd-dvd player if it's around $40. why? just to play transformers and as an upscale DVD player.

There's some problems: WHAT ABOUT THAT DVD PLAYER THAT PLAYS ALL THREE FORMATS!?!?!? Remember? The dvd payer that can play BLu-Ray, HD DVD, and DVD? Oh well, BLU-RAY FTW!

First we gotta wait for hdtv to hit massmarket before Blu can really establish on the market. But with no competition we know that is here to stay and slowly (very slowly) Blu will take over and become the standard player.
So far only a small number of people know what actually HD means, and an even smaller number ever heard of Blu. Most people who buy HDTV don`t know the difference between 720p or 1080p or the old tv, they just know that flat panels have a better image display and thats all they care.
But with the ever droping prices of the HDTV more and more people are upgrading and slowly they`ll learn about BLU.

THIS is huge news. Warner started the beginning of the end and CNET just finished it. Do you guys realize how big an influence Cnet is, how many people watch, read, and overall take their opinion as truth?

It's over, nice that we don't have to go through another year of waiting.
