MSFT is winning the battle when it comes to what console devs wan't to focus on they're winning the leverge battles and they have many games. What MS is concerned about is the suprise hit with the Wii here in the US and Apple. Apple has a nice little download service going and MS wanted to hit that sweet home market before Apple and it looks as if they have succeded. I will put money down that if MS ancounces a new Xbox, Sony won't be to far behind and they will have to explane why they dumped that 10yr console idea. These new consoles are nothing but striped down PCs and like PCs they can be manufactured at low cost. I have been in the PC buisness now for 13yrs and I see gaming PCs that are the same price as a PS3 ($599) and they beat down the PS3 like a b**ch. When you take in account what EA said about making a standard for games applys here, they will have to because of the everchanging hardware. They will make the games like they are on PC and it's up to your PCs hardware on how it looks and plays.

I've said all along since X360 would only be around 4 or 5 years and it takes about 2 years from conception to production, expect a new XBox announcement in the next year or so. I just hope they dont abandon all their customers like they did last time. M$ dont seem to be very dedicated to any piece of hardware. Then again if its in their best interest why wouldn't they drop it, since everyone forgave them last time.

What I want to know is will it have a BR in it? Surely they cant go with the old DVD is fine again can they. Do even Bots believe that? You knw the gamecube used nintendo discs that where made for them. Even though it could hold 3gb,they could apparently get that up to 7gb. Or so ive bn told.well the space issue for dvd is the ONLY weakness of the 360. I dnt knw how its possible,doubt it is,bt MSFT should work with toshiba to make a normal dvd hold enough to make more space for games.so it cn be only used in 360s.so even tho its a dvd,its nt? Lol. I dnt knw.

M$ and the Xbox 360 will not be affected one bit from loosing HD-DVD. That is the reason M$ made it an add on and not a built in unit. Now they can bring out a Blu-Ray add on if they wanted. The 360 is all about choice. I choose to buy a HD-DVD drive for my Xbox 360 because I got it cheap, now I will turn around and sell it on eBay and wait to see what happens once the dust settles. No lost to me, I had a few good months watching HI-DEF movies and now I will sell it and make a profit and wait for the next deal. If the PS3 has another price drop or three I might pick one up for the Blu-Ray but I will never get rid of my Xbox 360, that would be like cutting off a leg or something.

the way MS has been boning u 360 owners out of ur money - i wouldnt be surpised if they did drop the 360 and start fresh.

they messed up big time with the 360 - rushing out early because they knew side by side with the PS3 would have ruined them...and bc of that rush u got 30% of the install base (could be high who knows) with the RROD issue plus a wave of SKU with little add-ons that make u say - why didnt they just add this from the start (HDMI).

Sony has always looked for long term - PS2 is still outselling both so its save to gamble on Sony.

i hope 360 doesnt bail ship and come out with a new system but with the greed that MS is known for who knows...clearly none of us...we just have to wait and see

Sony wouldn't say no to them using Blu-Ray. There are plenty of upcoming developers that can be useful for MS.

As far as the 720/460 or whatever goes if they launch in 2009 they are risking everything. They might be launching two years ahead of both Sony and Nintendo. While it worked for their sencond generation console getting launched a year ahead of the competition. Two years is a bit of a stretch. The system would require good games out of the box. If they are two years ahead of competitition it would give both Sony and Nintendo a chance to make last minute changes before production if needed or wanted to make their console more powerful or better. Sega launched early as well with Dreamcast, but that didn't turn out to suit itself well did it? If Microsoft wants to be smart about thier launch they will launch in 2010 at the earliest.

I hate stupid little editors who probably have never played a next gen. game much less own a machine and there already saying maybe the next Xbox will be out in 2009 b/c the original Xbox was....blah blah blah.....

It's 3rd party developers heaven... unlike the wii... 3rd party are able to feed their families... so if a console is profitable why would they mess that up? even Sony is keeping the PS2... and NIntendo kept the gameboy for a long time.. simply because they were profitable. One thing is certain though.. the next xbox 360 will be released before the PS4 or the wii2... and it will be extreamly compatible to the xbox 360 in terms of game development... learning curve will be almost none... XNA, DirectX, etc.. will be basically the same.. just more hardware power and DirectX11 and other more advance API.... meaning... that developers will not be a resistance as they are to code from the PS2 to PS3 since they are so different...

They won't announce a new xbox. If they d0 announce a new xbox they will lose a ton of cash. If I haven't bought an xbox yet why should I if I know they will come out with one in 2009? yes the 360 sold roughly 2mil software sales and the PS3 was 1.2million but if u compare the install base of 13.5mil(360) and 9mil(PS3) which one actually sold more?

and the reason why the sales for the 360 are soo high is because 360 is set for hardcore gamers....the 360 doesnt provide the varity that the PS3 offers...360 is mostly FPS shooters meaning every1 with a 360 must buy FPS or they wont have any AAA titles...but with PS3 ur getting them all FPS/RPG/action/adventure etc etc which will break up the install base of PS3 owners..why would i buy a FPS if i love action adventure games.

halo 3 - FPS - halo is xbox so no brainer it will sell
COD4/bioshock - FPS - COD4 was huge for 360 and PS3 and u say that more ppl bought it for the 360 -its expected - 360 fanbase is bigger and 360 fan base is FPS driven.

in the end - all the titles u mentioned = FPS
PS3 offers more varity therefore attach rates on games like R&C and uncharted will vary from COD4/UT3

varity = more choice
360 FPS driven - FPS sales will be high bc theres no varity

I think MS starts a big push for d/l or on-demand content. This would make the most sense, and it's probably what they wanted to do all along. The 'add-on' HD-DVD player they put out was more of a stop-gap...now that Sony is pushing, and buying, their way with Blu-Ray it makes more sense for MS to accelerate the d/l content or even on-demand HD content.

For the article...I'd say late 2010 into 2011 (wow, weird to type those dates) before we see anything new.

360 sucks now. that's why they're making the 720. HD-DVD is dead and for the 720 they'll need to support Sony and their Blu-ray unless they want another console that's nothing more than just a DVD player

No way Microsoft's going to release a new XBOX 720 or whatever its called anytime soon. The fastest processor today will barely be able to outpace the triple 3.2ghz powerPC CPU thats in the current 360. For Microsoft to release a "720" they would need a CPU that is at least double the performance of Sony's "CELL"

Currently CELL is still a monster of a chip. Maybe 2010 guys...

Sony would be stupid to not let Microsoft in on the whole Blu-Ray thing. What about all of the Sony items that uses Microsoft stuff ? microsoft was first with motion control...360 is already a ton more powerful then wii...just add a new control scheme to add to the consumer choice strategy...i guess you may see a blu ray drive add on too...just returned my hd dvd add on today I received for xmas and upgraded to a 40gb ps3, for a movie playback machine only at this point, since I bought no games for it. downloading a few demos however...Still have to play mass effect, orange box and more cd4 on 360...the ps3 has me impressed so far though, as much as it hurt returning my hd-dvd this morning to circuit city.

MS strategy is a slow take over. 360 is great in some ways and not so great in others. Yet, MS is improving in the Industry.

They gathered a higher % of the market this gen then last gen and has a heavier presence and will stick around longer. They have 2-3 years before they launch a new console IMO.
