Microsoft’s Kinect motion sensor changed the way people play video games by recognising movement and speech. Now the company aims to fundamentally redefine the way we interact with computers with the release of Kinect for Windows in South Africa later this year.

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.
This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.
This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.
I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet
Helix is going to be stupidly expensive
Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential
I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought
That's going to be ps6 vs Helix
It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs
Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

In an exclusive interview with Game File, new(ish) Xbox boss Asha Sharma and Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty explain their vision for Microsoft’s gaming division
A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.
Did it change the face of Xbox to begin with?
Kinect has proved all of the naysayers wrong.A lot of them look stupid now
I think the Kinect for Windows will be a great addition to PC, THB PC Gamers are so lucky
Though I'm a PC gamer, I have no interest in standing up to play games. I could see it handy for monitoring your head movements to change the view in racing games and flight simulators, but there are already cheaper devices out there that will do the same thing.
Hate to burst anyone's bubble but no one cares anymore. Most Kinect games are either crap, sell badly or get crap scores. All the excitement has died down , you barely see anyone talking about hacking the Kinect to exploit it's potential or anyone excited for the upcoming games. It's only Microsoft and a few fanboys that still really care. Kinect Star Wars won't even get a rise out of Star War fans after seeing how hardcore games play on the Kinect.
I have no doubt all the upcoming ones will either be gimmicky or just won't work properly. Even the most of the casual and childish games sell like crap. They couldn't even sell the Sesame Street game after all the boasting that parents will buy it for their kids and it would sell like hot cakes. Only dance games work really well while everything else like ME3 conversation is just a gimmick. And if it's not that people just down give a $hit. Look at how everyone ran around saying Child of Eden would show hardcore how well it worked and barely anyone wanted it or cared.
And to top it all off after getting up on their pedestal claiming Kinect would be more then just a gimmick that they shoehorn into gameplay that exactly what it became. An unnecessary thing that is no where as good as a controller as they advertised. Drown me in disagrees, call me names and say what ever you want. The truth is right there in then bad sales, gimmicky games and crappy scores. How many Kinect games have broken a million units or scored above average or gotten any awards or GOTYs? People have no trouble talking bad things about Move while Kinect stinks up the place and all people can talk about is the sales and the potential we have yet to see.
