This is sad... taking precautionary measures just to keep your 360 running smoothly. This crap should not even be happening in the first place. MS pisses me off.

PS1 - i owned 3 in 2years and 6 months.3rd one more reliable but still could not play games unless it was upside down

Dreamcast - had only one but had to send mine back to Sega under warranty when my lense tanked in Africa after 4 months

PS2 - Owned 2 in 2 years due to faulty disk drives.So got an XBOX and never looked back.

N64 - In 3 years i owned 7 controllers because the analog kept breaking .

There is something definitely wrong with some sony fanboys.The mere knowledge that anything positive can be achieved on the 360 gives them sleepless nights.

I got a temporary RROD while watching season 1 of Martin on the 360 and falling asleep with it on...my tip is to never do that again.

I have yet to hear of a single PS3 failing. The 360's design is faulty, get over it already. Nothing can prevent this, it is inevitable.

I've only gotten the RROD once, and so have all my mates that own a 360, except for one. That makes 6:1 failing including myself.

I treat my stuff with almost disturbing care, and yet it fails. The real problem here is that MS is sending back refurbished consoles instead of consoles with proper design.

And what I find even more disturbing is that so many 360 owners are buying an Elite in the hope that it will "fix" this problem. Can you believe this? They go spending more money on a 360 because of the faulty design MS provided them? That's just the world upside-down.

I noticed when I first got my 360 last November, that when I load a game from the dashboard with the game already being in the drive, the game runs a little slower, and the 360 makes more noise trying to read the disc. As long as I from the dashboard, eject the game and reinsert it, runs smooth 100%. I take my 360 back and fourth when I go home for holidays, granted I carry it in a laptop case. No RROD, five year warranty anyway.

Not that RROD isnt an issue, but lately is souly been used as flamebait by these Sony fan boys on here. PS3's don't break because your not playing them NEARLY as long as 360 owners are playing their machines. And I hope to god nothing ever happens to your PS3's, cause if you think M$ is bad on warranty replacement, Sony probably has one of the worst track records of service anywhere in the industry.

The whole RROD has really hurt the 360 rep, i can imagine it puts of alot of people buying one.so heres a tip for the 360 Don't buy one. LOL

PlayStation 3 owners need not be on the thread if they are going to derail the actual subject matter of real advice, to derogative and provocative comments.

There are some people who love their 360's and are sincerely interested in how to keep it in good condition, they dont need to read comments like some of the things left by PS3 owners. It doesn't matter if 360 people do similar things with PS3 articles, try to distinguish yourselves from fanboys.

tips are ok but....what's with the lame jokes, it took up more time than the tips.

what's funny about this whole RROD situation is that i had my 360 for 2 years with no problems and i use to leave it on for days, (5 days was most i ever left it on and it gives me no problems).

I know i know how was it possible, i left it downloading 6 demos and 8 trailers,i had system stand by off and i had background downloads on, if your the kind of person who leaves his 360 on for days. it keeps the 360 on for in coming downloads.

i'm not to concerned with the Disagrees, 3 or more and i'll put ps3 is the best good luck trying to undo your disagrees.

the three red lights was only meant to give you error messages, you power on your 360, the 360 sends you a series of flashing red lights, then you call up MS or go online and speak to MS, and they help you decipher the message, from there they tell you if the problem is big or small.

ps3, wii, and pc have beep codes the red lights are the same thing.

If its going to fail its going to fail. I had two RROD's and yet I sat the 360 on its own shelf under the TV with plenty of ventilation all around it, I even stopped my son placing the controllers next to it after we had used it as to not disrupt any airflow that could cause it to overheat. As with all my games as soon as I stopped playing they went back in the case and were in mint condition yet my third 360 would get warm and then start failing to read disc's which was very frustrating in long Forza 2 races. I decided to sell the third one as to me 360 ownership was a lottery. Some people say they have had their 360's since launch without issues yet I lost two. There seemed to be now way of protecting them apart from maybe these 5 top tips:

1. Making a human sacrifice to the God Gates
2. Packing it in dry ice
3. Playing it for no more than a 5 minutes, allowing a cooling period of 5 hours between each 5 minute session
4. Keeping it in its box and never taking it out
5. Leave it switched off and draw the games onto the blank tv screen with crayons, Halo 3 multiplayer was more fun this way anyway

I've had my 360 since Feb 2006 and its been through around 2 - 3 powers and my PS3 went through one power cut and lived and so has my 360. I've gotten the 3 RROL's 4 times, the one red light once with the hardware system failure popping up across the TV screen which did scare me lol. All I did every time was to restart the console or take off the hard drive and then restart the console. I guess I'm lucky, I've experienced the RROD all them times yet I restarted my console and it worked fine, still on my first console so I hope it survies until Feb 2008 which it will then be 2 years old. =)

I think its time Xbots "jump out" to a real gaming machine with an excellent game lineup & reliable hardware. At least Sony wont walk all over you like MS does, but then again, maybe you guys like it like that!

I've had 24 360's and they all RROD'd on me before I even started them.

Seriously I thought when the video started it was a joke of some sort. Then I realized this was an actual show. I still have to wonder sometimes how this hardware issue is acceptable in the gaming community.

What are you going to do in 3 years and 50-75 games later and your hardware quits performing? Pray the X720 is around the corner and is backwards compatible?

I would go out on a limb to say if the gaming community boycotted the sales of Xbox 360 and demanded Microsoft redesign the system to get under the acceptable 5% failure margin, it would have without a doubt destroyed the competition. Including the Wii. I and many other like me would own this system.

But it is way too late to do anything about it now with 17.5 million units sold.
