Nintendo's Third party problem: Reasons and Solutions

Why do incredible 3rd party games such as Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure only sell 1% as much as games like Mario Party 8? Is it just the user base? Or is the situation a bit deeper than that? DPAD breaks down for you the reasons for, and solutions to Nintendo's 3rd party problem.

my theory on this is that prob 85% people who own a wii are not hardcore gamers. I mean my mom and grandma wants one. If they get one guess what? they will only buy mario and wii sports type games. Its just the demographic they are selling and have a up hill battle

wiizy6693d ago

your fanboyish theory really doesnt make sense in the first place.. people will buy good games... and wii has alot coming...and its up to third partys to advertise their games..nintendo can only do so much... as for that hardcore nonsense.. you dont even know the definition of hardcore.. so the wii has plenty of hardcore games and more coming.. so stop your fanboyish cries just cause your system of choice is not the popular choice.

TruthbeTold6693d ago

I love Nintendo as much as anyone, so don't take this personally, but do you really think you have any business calling someone else a fanboy? You aren't as bad as some of the Sony or Microsoft fans around here since you usually keep your comments to defense rather than attacks. But you do defend Nintendo with a zealotry second to no one. I don't agree that 85% of Wii owners are "non-hardcore" either, but it's not some kind of threat, or the end of the world that this guy does. :P

wiizy6693d ago

last i check casual market and gamers has a place to .....cause its call entertainment.... thats the purpose of a game.. so different people have different taste.

ISay6693d ago

thats a great point one i can stand behind but the problem lies in that if causual gamers are only buying on game a year and its a first party game your going to lose 3 party suport, cause thers no mony in it and less you forget thats what happen to the gamecube, nintendo has to bring back the GOLD seal of approvel and include 3rd party into there internal marking

TruthbeTold6693d ago

The seal of quality needs to make a comeback asap.

lonestarmt6693d ago

dude, freaking relax. However all because something sells a lot or has a strong casual fanbase doesn't mean its good. Firefly is a great series no one watched it, yet wife swap is still on the air. Spiderman 3 has made more money than any movie all time, I guess thats the best movie ever made. So I don't give a crap on who is the most popular choice. No one is saying the third party games are not good on the wii, thing is no one is buying them. Most ps3 games out sell them, and they have less than half of people have them. Its a fact.

Don't give me hardcore BS. I'm a hardcore gamer, I just prefer a different type of games, just like I'm sure you are ( or at least you think you are) Sorry man its a fact, I'm not saying hardcore gamers don't have wii's, just the majority of people who do are like my brother, uncle, and mom who buy one or two games a year if that. Your posts are more fanboy than mine. lol

TruthbeTold6693d ago

...Wii owners so far, it is not absurd to assume that the number of "hardcore" owners is somewhere around what the PS3 install base currently is at around 8-9 million. Mom's and Dad's, Grandma's and Grandpa's aside, third party games should be doing better.

Nine Obscure Adventure Games We Wish Had Sequels

Kotaku: "Adventure games began as some of the earliest attempts at bridging novels and gameplay. The best of them challenge notions of traditional story-telling and immerse players into the narrative with quirky characters and puzzle-solving. This list explores the obscure adventure games that deserve sequels. Any adventure games that already have sequels won't be considered."

Five Overlooked Last-Gen Games - Pixel Gate

Sean Halliday of Pixel Gate writes:

''For every blockbuster title that garners high praise and sales, there a number of games that fly under the radar. There’s plenty of great titles that have plenty to offer but, for numerous reasons, never get the love and attention they deserve. This isn’t the definitive list of the most overlooked games; it’s merely a look at few of them.''

I'm glad Chinatown Wars is there. This is one of the best GTAs in the series. Right up there with 5 and SA. Get the DS version. You won't be disappointed. Also like to add that the wanted system in GTACTW is by far my favorite of any GTA.

Venoxn4g4350d ago

its definitely better than gta IV :) i liked it a lot

Goro4350d ago

The Club sucked, where is Yakuza 3 or 4 or Binary Domain or Sleeping Dogs.

GamerEuphoria4350d ago

Since when was Sleeping Dogs overlooked?

Goro4350d ago

Since before it was available on PlayStation Plus.

mydyingparadiselost4350d ago

I think mine would be
Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom
Tastunoko V Capcom
House of the Dead Overkill
Deadly Premonition
Sam and Max
Honestly I think this last gen had a lot of overlooked titles or at least titles that didn't see the amount of sales they should have. It makes me worry for the future of the current generation.

Baka-akaB4350d ago

The Club might have been a new idea , but it doesnt mean that all of those are good .

And Deadly preomonition was hardly overlooked . It's a game that had a bigger than expected and deserved success based on the weird hype "that's it so bad you gotta play it and gonna love it" (an opinion i dont share)

GamerEuphoria4350d ago

Since the game came out I've been trying to get EVERYONE to play it, thus it popped up on this list, it's still not very well known in the UK

Monster_Tard4350d ago

Really liked WWE All Stars, never got to play it online as the servers went down by the time I picked it up.

Zack & Wiki was one of my favourite games of last generation, and one of the few Wii games I actually enjoyed.
If Nintendo do not snap up a sequel, I hope Sony or Microsoft do.

YoungKingDoran4471d ago

Inventive use of the Wiimote, even before motion plus.
This was a fun game, and wracked my brain on a few puzzles.

Now I'm just guessing here, but this game's unfortunate failure probably contributed to what turned Capcom how they are today; that is a risk-less company who tries to do everything they possibly can to not lose or miss out on a dime.
