Well it seem like everybody is going the blueray way. At this point on i think hd-dvd is done.

HD-DVD just got ripped a new one.

uh, you guys should get informed everyday, they were supporters of blu-ray since the format was developed, lmao. but yea this is big that they are finally going to add BD drives to their machines, they are already confident enough to know that BD is going to win, last year they didnt do this because we all knew were the HD-Format wars was at a bit of a stalemate, until Blu-ray Started to Dominate in sales. so yea, Awesome for apple.

Apple is my favourite consumers electronic company, and I couldn't be more excited that they're using the technology invented by my favourite gaming company. Xemnas made a seriously good point. If Apple put iTunes on the Playstation 3, that would be the ultimate. Sony wouldn't have to start from scratch getting companies up, they'd have the biggest line up of entertainment content at their fingertips.

Seriously, if Apple and Sony teamed up to expand Apple products, as well as Sony's, that would be the ULTIMATE.

BR will gain more popularity. There are a lot of shows that have the Apple iBook/ laptop computer and I can see some shows talking about BR on their Apple computers.

a major studio (Warner), they can put the nail in the coffin. Unfortunatly, if that doesn't happen, HD-DVD's pretty good movie releases and XBOX Ultimate (w/HD-DVD drive) coming out will no doubt prolong this "war".

If Blu Ray manages to infiltrate the PC market while lucratively dominating like it`s doing now ,then it pretty much end of format war

first off i would like to know what it is that blu ray is dominating cuz the only people that r buying bluray players r ps3 fans and they arent even buying that many movies and also u forget toshiba sells laptops so what is it that bluray has done honestly cuz im pretty sure that windows based computers r still selling more than macs so nice try

Apple is flexing its muscles in the format race. Now just add in the free movie deal to these Macs and you will set fire to the Mac fans. Good move!! Keep it up apple.

Blu-ray is the definitive format for the post DVD era and be done with it?

Dammit, greedy a$$ MS and Toshiba you're dumbing down the entire world!

HD DVD will be in the 360 soon, and Bluray will be in the Mac soon. That's all we know prior to CES. I can guarantee you all after CES you guys will all be surprised at all the news and will come to the realization that the format war isn't ending any time soon.

I bet Blu-Ray would look gorgeous on the upgraded 1080P Macbook Pro Screen! I have been wanting a Macbook Pro for a while now and this would be yet ANOTHER reason to get one! Wow...great move on Apple's part if this turns out to be true! The only downside I could think of is The price! :/

wOOt now BR just needs the inevitable support from warner and this war could be over much sooner than analysts expected which is great and will get more people into hd now that they have a definitive format to go with this also spells bad news for M$ as their new 360 SKU will fail because hd-dvd has failed

Good news! And i can see more Sony/Apple relations in the future. I wish Sony allowed you to control your iPod and listen to music from it on the PS3.

I doubt the new Macbooks would cost much more, if any to the current ones. Though they also contain a new Intel chip and are said to be released in the first Q of this year.

Score another for BR and for Sony. You cannot deny the strong support and commitment loyal Mac owners are. This is a dagger in MS heart for sure!

You guys do realize current Apple DVD Studio Pro 4 allows for the burning of HD DVD content to both standard DVDs and HD DVD media.

So it's more likely a hybrid drive since Apple would start alienating users already using it's current software.

It's all very possible considering Apples new stance on allowing Windows to boot on their machine now.

And as always we might not see anything about HD or BD from Apple this month.
It happened all last yr. Everyone kept saying it's coming but it never did.

Either way BD or no BD or hybrid or nothing at all I'm buying a new Mac Book Pro in Feb. regardless what it comes with.

Then you got iTunes with it supposedly HD movies coming sometime this yr from Apple.

People think Apple loves Sony...I'm not so sure.
Remember the swelling and exploding Macbook batteries...that was a Sony battery.
There is no love lost when Sony closed down it's music store which could not compete with iTunes.
Let's not even talk about the iPod.
Apple really doesn't like either Sony or MS but deals with them to get what they need from them.

I like the Blu-ray player in my PS3, but BR in a mac? Big deal. Mac sales are slim compared to mainstream PCs and the prices of those macs are overinflated. I'm glad the narrow stream of people buying macs have access to BD, but I'm not going to pay ridiculous price a mac when I can build my own SLI PC for less than half the price. AND that's with current hardware, not hardware that's already on the way to being old, as macs have a tendency of doing.

I'll definitely get one with Blu-ray. Hopefully the speeds will be 8x by then.

Didn't any of you guys predict this?? If Microsoft supports Hd-Dvd obviously Apple would go to HD-dvd's rival, which happens to be Blu-ray. Like what Blademask said this is like dropping 3 nukes on the Hd-dvd camp. I suspect this war is gonna be over soon.

to hellawhip hddvd also has other computer companies besides just toshiba it has intel and hp so it is pretty much even im just saying blu ray maybe selling more discs but that is not whats going to win the war it is getting the real hardware out there not gaming systems
im not saying bluray is a bad product by n e means all im saying is that it is not leaps and bounds ahead of hddvd at all if n e thing it is equal period but u have to realize that blu ray is lacking heavily in the extra features depart. if someone can tell me what it is that so wonderful about blu ray i am all ears honestly

Apple has been a member on the Blu-Ray committee since this so called war started. There is also Dell, and i believe Hp as well. HD-DVD is dead. Once computer manufacturers start to sell blu-ray drives with their systems hd-dvd will lose.

New Macs w/ Blu-Ray = Final Cut Pro w/ blu-ray codec support... This will make pretty much one of the top editing programs IN THE FILM INDUSTRY stand as a supporter of Blu-Ray. All of the other industry talks about HD-DVD over Blu-Ray will really be examined after this happens. This would also probably cause many directors to be proponents of the format due to most of them using FC Pro, and a dramatic shift in studio support will follow.

why is it that people think if bluray wins that hddvd will go the way of the dodo? Movies is not the only media to use the high capacity of both formats. If it were reported tomorrow that bluray was the winner in hd movies I am betting hddvd will still be used as a higher capacity storage for games and data.

Movies look the same on both formats so the ony advantage blu has is capacity. If it is found to be true that ms is making a ultimate 360 then the hddvd will most likely be used for games. It isnt the first time a format has been different on a console. GDROM, mini dvd, even carts and hucards are all different from their respected competing consoles.

For apple to add blu to some of their systems now is a sign that even they were worried on how the format would start out. Sony was not affraid to go for the risk up front but sure enough dell and apple had yet to offer systems with blu from day one. Why is that?? The same criticism can be made to HP and toshiba for not having the hddvd format in their computers from day one as well.

Look at how interconnected these two combatants are: Microsoft supports hddvd with toshiba who is partnered with sony on the cell in the ps3 which uses bluray backed by apple who uses intel chips which intel is a supporter of hddvd. What we see and comment on, on the surface, is nothing like what goes on behind the scenes.

See this is why the Ultiamte Xbox thing is fake... they will get pwned so hard if they release that( I wouldn't mind seeing it though)
