Just imagine playing Battlefield 3 at 720p with only 30fps. All because they decided to have angry birds running on the controllers screen...

PopRocks3595192d ago

Rumors =/= Facts. Wii U is confirmed to run at 1080p and the demos at E3 last year were all running at 60fps.

M83_5192d ago

I thought they said they were undecided on 1080p. But if its officially confirmed thats brilliant news.

I don't know about the controller's resolution, but the console does 1080. I'm not sure if the resolution on a screen that small is really going to matter much. Anyway, here's the specs from Nintendo.

And here's the actual source for the "article"... a neogaf thread.

1. Many multiplatform demos shown were footage from PS3/X360:

2. Regardless of what Reggie says, no chance that all WiiU titles will run on 1080p (probably only simple games). 1080p combined with advanced rendering techniques (such as tesselation/displacement mapping), antialiasing, etc. would require at least 1GB VRAM. Considering that it is rumored that WiiU has combined memory pool of 1GB, it's not happening.

Emilio_Estevez5192d ago (Edited 5192d ago )

They say a lot of things before the product is finished, not to mention almost all of those demos were actually 360/PS3 footage.

I'm not saying it will or won't be 1080p, it is capable, but it's def a wait and see type of thing.

SilentNegotiator5192d ago (Edited 5192d ago )

They refused to confirm NATIVE 1080p, so as far as I'm concerned, they were likely talking about supported output just like when Ps3 was announced to "support" 1080p.

Maybe a title or two will support 1080p, like Wipeout with PS3. But with so much refusal from Nintendo to confirm native 1080p, it probably won't be native 1080p for most games.

wow if this is true i can see why sony and m$ aren't in a rush. xbox360 and ps3 may just stay around against the wii-u till next generations seeing they are finally hitting profit and sells are going good. reminds me of the ps2 and the xbox releasing many years later.

yabhero5192d ago

??? All this means is that its rendered in 720p then output in 1080p. Also is means that higher end games will run with better GFX and a smooth framerate... PS3 and 360 are often sub HD

slavish5192d ago

i know this but my point is the wii u doesn't blow them out of the water. the difference isn't as big as ps2 to ps3

yabhero5192d ago (Edited 5192d ago )

5-6 times more power is a pretty big GFX leap
also at least we have reliable rumor pointing to 5-6 times the power of PS3 and 360 for WiiU
Also the article on IGN says that nextbox will also have 6 times the power... other than that we know nothing about ps4 or nextbox... so assuming MS and Sony are ready to spend millions to make then overpowered high end PCs that retail for 800-900 dollars is stupid

Nintendo already announced the resolution at E3.

Rumour is probably not far off from the truth.

Best 2D, Mario World, best 3D, Mario 64. Can't say there's been a bad one, although Mario World 2 wasn't a true sequel. The Mario Land games were good (not the first one) and also Wario Land. I thought after Mario 64, Mario 3D World was excellent.
